Faceted Flight brings tight controls, retro sci-fi art, and a great soundtrack together to deliver a fun and thrilling arcade-style flight game. Check out our demo created for Kickstarter!
As a pilot in Faceted Flight, you'll take the helm of a variety of aircraft and soar through beautifully stylized environments. We offer three main classes of aircraft: Hover-Jet, Hover-Chair, and Power Glider. Each of these aircraft offer a unique flying experience.
In Faceted Flight you'll travel to Airfields where you can participate in speed-based events like Racing or Ring Attack....or you can take it at your own pace with Exploration events.
If you've played Starfox or Pilotwings, you'll feel right at home.
"Faceted Flight was born out of my obsession for flying in Virtual Reality." says Faceted Flight creator, Matt Scott. "I grew up playing early 3D games like X-Wing, Star Fox, and Wipeout. I wanted to create a game that gave players the sense of thrill and excitement those games gave me."
Matt is a games industry veteran who has worked at studios, such as Oddworld and Valve. During his time at Valve, he worked on the HALF-LIFE 2 Episodes, PORTAL 1 & 2, LEFT 4 DEAD 1 & 2, and lots of other really cool stuff.
Development began in June of 2014 in Matt's garage with an Oculus Rift DK1. After months of revising controls, upgrading to new headsets, and working out bugs, he sent a demo to TheRiftArcade.com resulting in the headline: "Faceted Flight has blasted out of nowhere onto the VR landscape..." Shortly after, Matt began collaborating with other developers, musicians, and concept artists, and they've been cranking away ever since.
Faceted Flight has been entirely self-funded, but we're running out of dough! With your support, we'll be able to continue working with great artists, musicians, designers, and engineers to build the best experience possible.
After almost a year of prototyping and demoing at VR events all over the country, we're ready to expand Faceted Flight from a fun prototype into a full-featured game. The next chapter in Faceted Flight's story is going to be awesome but we need your help to cross the finish line.
Faceted Flight will launch this winter on PC and this winter for Virtual Reality Headsets like the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.
We're also launching in Q1 2016 for PS4 and Project: Morpheus!
One of the main design goals for Faceted Flight is to give players controls that are easy to approach, yet are flexible enough to let skilled players channel their inner Stunt Pilot.
Each Airfield offers Pilots a chance to prove their skill in a variety of different events, including:
It's time to kick the tires and light the fires! Push your aircraft and stomach to the limit as you barrel through twists and turns at incredible speeds.
Dubbed "Sonic in a spaceship." Fly through as many rings as you can before time runs out.
In Exploration Events, there are no rules, time-limits, or anything like that. Take your time and explore, relax, and maybe collect some of those glowing shiny things.
Faceted Flight was built for Virtual Reality from day one. The sense of freedom you feel while flying in VR is unlike anything you can experience in a "normal" game. In order to accomplish this, the first challenge was to eliminate or reduce the motion-sickness that plagues so many VR games. A combination of clever code optimizations, brutal hacks, and loads of playtesting on complete strangers have led to an experience that is very "active", yet not vomit-inducing.
The prototype of Faceted Flight has been played by brave Test Pilots who attended events like Oculus Connect in Hollywood, Unity3D's Unite 2014 in Seattle, and at Virtual Reality events in Austin and Dallas. The result is a highly-tuned, great feeling game. NO HEADSET, NO PROBLEM While Faceted Flight was primarily designed for VR, it's also a fun game without a fancy headset. Everyone could use a wingman and in Faceted Flight, you'll be able to fly right along with your friends. It’s a very cool experience to fly with others in VR and we're excited for you to try it out.
Music is an essential tool for setting the emotional tone. Faceted Flight's music elicits a rush of nostalgia with cheery Chiptunes mixed with mellow Ambient Electronic.
Faceted Flight's soundtrack features the music from awesome musicians like Robbie Dooley, Magnus Pålsson, Roald Strauss, and Robson Cozendey.
Faceted Flight will include 5 main Airfields. Each Airfield is located in a unique location here on Earth. Each class of Aircraft offers a unique experience at each Airfield.
We picked three of the Airfield locations, and we'd like you to pick the other two. That’s right, backers have the opportunity to tell us where YOU want the game to take place.
Thanks to our amazing new level creation tech, we're now building much larger environments than the prototype allowed. They're four times larger than any of our prototype levels and they look a million times better.
- Stillwater Gorge -
Inspired by the dramatic landscapes of the American Southwest. You'll squeeze through tight ravines and soar over Mesas.
- The Simonet Islands -
Inspired by the volcanic islands of the Pacific and Caribbean as well as the San Juan Islands in Washington State.
- The Sleeping Forest -
A cross between Muir Woods in California, the Ho Rainforest in Washington, and a little bit of Endor thrown in for good measure....ok, maybe some Totoro, too.

We've decided to buck the trend of physical rewards in favor of digital rewards. You're pitching in the dough and want your contribution to affect the game.

Risks and challenges
Game Development inherently has a certain amount of risk due to a large number of unknown moving parts. We've done our best to mitigate as many risks as possible by building a prototype and demo before asking for your support
The largest risk is hitting our aggressive launch window. To mitigate the soul-crushing agony of a delayed launch, we're making the development process transparent through Early Access builds, dev blog posts, tweets of in-dev progress, and live streams to discuss development stories.
