Don the Con
A Kid's Book of Trumpian Humor for Adults!
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Tue, November 5 2019 10:30 PM UTC +00:00.
What is Don the Con?
DON THE CON is a wickedly-witty book of Trumpian humor about the imaginary boyhood days of a young bully-in-the-making, who has an uncanny resemblance to our resident in the White House. This timely piece of political satire is written in children’s book style, but is absolutely for adults!
With lilting rhyme with a satirical sting, engaging illustrations, and pop-cultural appeal, Don the Con takes on today's most pressing political topics: immigration, border walls, climate change, financial statements, Russian collusion and more. David Juarez' hilarious color illustrations will help take your mind off the divisiveness of current politics for a spell, providing belly-aching laughs as 'good medicine' to share in large dollops.
This book is trying to make its way into the world before the 2020 elections, and we hope you might assist us! We are printing a 26-page softcover picture book (8 x 10-inch format) and additional Kindle e-book format with Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing). Our scheduled completion date is December 1st, 2019, making this a perfect gift for the holidays and winter birthdays. Help us publish the BEST LAUGH OF 2020 that will carry us through to next November!
Where did this project come from?
Roseanne and David believe that art and writing offer a creative, positive voice that helps encourage social dialogue. Using their artistic backgrounds--Roseanne as an award-winning children's book author, and David as a talented graphic artist--they wanted to create an imaginative and humorous statement on social justice in our era of negativity and floundering Democracy. Don the Con will help us all endure the last year of Trump’s tantrums with the best armor we have: humor, wit, and a democratic ending!
Text for the book has been fully written--it was developed over the last 5 months and was professionally edited by one of Roseanne's previous editors. The illustrations are well underway, and with your help, we are hoping to fund the artist for six weeks of full-time work.
What’s our budget?
The main costs of illustration, professional editing, layout, marketing, webpage fees, postage, production costs for awards and the author's work come to around $12,500. As Roseanne and David have 'day jobs' they do not have access to advertising, printing and promotional facilities that a traditional publisher would supply for free. However, they've got the work started and have covered the first bit to get this project going. With a bit more hard work and your much-appreciated donations, we're looking forward to bringing Don the Con to life.
With the 2020 election only a year away, self-publishing is the only way to get the message out in time for all to enjoy. Traditional picture book printing typically takes 2 – 3 years (publisher lists often have backlogs of 3 - 6 years, based on Roseanne’s past 16 products). However, self-publishing will allow this book to be enjoyed by all this holiday season. The average color printing fees for a professionally-printed picture book are $25,000, so self-publishing helps keep the price down. Your generous support will help us launch our work in a professional but cost-effective manner.

Why fund this project?
As artists, this opportunity lets us engage in important political discussion with humor and wit, rather than divisive speech. Using our creative impulse, we can help out in our own way. At the same time, we're offering a product that is witty, humorous, and will serve to inform, enlighten and help us laugh together. We sincerely appreciate any assistance you might give to help us reach our goal and help Don the Con make its way into the world!
Spread the Word! This campaign is ALL or NOTHING, so if the financial goal is not met in 30 days, your card will not be charged and the book and rewards will not get printed. Therefore, sharing the campaign link on Instagram or Facebook, Twitter on your podcast or blog will help the campaign reach other people and help the book, poster, and stickers get printed. Thanks for helping out and we sincerely appreciate your contributions, large and small!
Risks and challenges
We are hoping to get awards out to our contributors with sufficient time for the holidays. We'll make every effort we can! However, there may be glitches in shipping during that time of year, as well as unexpected production issues that could affect delivery dates slightly. We have met all deadlines to this point, and are aiming for an early December shipping date. If there are any hiccups, we will keep you posted!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
