Finally... a simple and effective way to keep your glasses from sliding down your nose.
You may have seen us featured on one of these cool websites!
How does it work?
Well I'm glad you asked...
Nerdwax is super simple and can be used in 3 easy steps!
We think we know what you're thinking...
and made a video to prove it!
So, Why Kickstarter?
We love the Kickstarter community and think it's the perfect place to launch nerdwax.
We need to raise enough money for the first ever production run of nerdwax!!
Our Friends & Family have been enjoying the benefits of nerdwax for a few years now, on both prescription eyewear and sunglasses...
Now we are excited to share it with you!
Our Kickstarter Project will be completed in the 90 days following the end of our successfully funded campaign and be broken up into 2 stages.
(S1) STAGE 1
During Stage 1 we will be:
- Assembling all raw materials for the full project
- Producing the first 1,000 Tubes of nerdwax
- Shipping nerdwax to all Early Birds & S1 Backers
(S2) STAGE 2
During Stage 2 we will be:
- Prepping materials for S2 Production
- Producing nerdwax for all S2 Backers
- Shipping nerdwax to all S2 Backers
We have already secured the sourcing for all materials and ordered test quantities to ensure the quality of all ingredients and packaging.
I think it's time we talk about REWARDS!!
first things first... we have put together
*2 EARLY BIRD SPECIALS*
for the first 100 backers
Get your hands on some of the first batch of nerdwax at a great price before it's GONE!
Well those went quicker than I anticipated...
We just added another level since so many of you we're hoping to get tubes from the First Batch... get them while you can!!
You can't say I didn't warn you...
April 21st - We just released a very cool update to the campaign... check it out here!
You're not going to find any T-Shirts or Chotchkie's in our backer levels!
It's not that we hate T-shirts or anything... I'd actually love a nerdwax hoodie personally... but we really just want to stay focused on making nerdwax!
We do have some plans for accessories we might add as upgrades if we hit our goal early in the campaign, and we'd love to hear what you might want in that scenario!
But for now it's all nerdwax.
Higher Level Backers will be rewarded with tailored quantities, shipping options, and priority status.
We've tried to keep it as simple as possible while offering what we think are some great reward tiers!
*S1 = Stage 1 Delivery :: *S2 = Stage 2 Delivery
If you have any questions you can't find the answer to on this page, please don't hesitate to send us a message!
We'll do our best to get right back to you!
Risks and challenges
Although this will be the first large-scale production run of Nerdwax; we have been making, packaging and shipping small quantities for a few years now, and we are confident in our ability to deliver the offered rewards to our backers as promised!
We have estimated this Kickstarter will allow us to do a first run between 1,000 and 5,000 tubes but we also want to be prepared for any unforeseen challenges, or quantities greater than 5,000, so just to be safe we have given ourselves margin on both Stage 1 and Stage 2 delivery estimates.
Whatever happens, if we hit our goal or nerdwax is an internet sensation and we raise more money than the pebble watch... we want you to know that we are dedicated to making sure you are in the know from the time you pledge to the first time you apply nerdwax to your favorite glasses.
Our family and friends love nerdwax and we are sure you will too... but we are counting on you to help us make nerdwax the best possible product it can be!
We can't promise that everything will go perfectly with the production and shipping of nerdwax... but we can guarantee that if you make us aware we will always make it right and learn from our mistakes.
We are so excited you are willing to partner with us in making nerdwax a reality!
We can't thank you enough!!
Don & Lydia Hejny
It really depends on two factors:
1. How much you apply each time
2. How sweaty/oily your face is during use
The feedback I've received from friends during testing has ranged from as often as every 2hrs to once every other day.
Personally, I get an average work day out of a single application.
During more strenuous activities like running or biking you will probably get about a 1-2 hour application time.
If I'm really working up a sweat… I find that once I notice the effect starting to wear off, gently wiping the perspiration from the applied area with my finger helps to get more life out of that single application.
Some of my first tubes we're extremely tacky and lasted for longer periods of time, but they were also extremely messy and made nerdwax very sticky and uncomfortable during normal wear… It's taken me awhile to get the formula in that sweet-spot where it is both functional and comfortable.
Once again, it really just depends on how much and often you apply nerdwax to your glasses.
I have yet to hit the end of a tube… I usually end up giving them away before that happens but I can guess from the amount of nerdwax in the tube vs. the amount one would use for a normal application that you would get about 6-8mo out of a single tube.
As far as expiry, I still have some of the very first tubes I made, and although not as great as a fresh tube, they still work. The bees-wax tends to start drying out after a couple years.
Your feedback after the campaign, will be crucial in helping us better answer this question!
Nerdwax works by creating a layer of friction between your face and glasses.
So with that said… it will help, however I want to stress that nerdwax is not a substitute for poorly fitted glasses.
Having my glasses adjusted is something that I do about once or twice a year, but even then my glasses still tend to slide.
If the arms of your glasses are too loose they will slide no matter what you put on them, too tight and they are extremely uncomfortable… Get your glasses fitted so they are just right and then let nerdwax help you "keep them in place"!
As nerdwax naturally breaks down, it does leave a slight residue that can either be wiped off with your finger, a cloth or washed away using the recommended procedure of your particular eyewear manufacturer.
You will want to avoid cleaning your lenses with the same part of the cloth that you are using to wipe off any existing residue.
If you happen to get nerdwax on your lenses, don't worry, washing them with a little soap & warm water should do the trick!
Pro Tip: Most Opticians recommend not using any product containing ammonia, bleach, or vinegar to clean your lenses as these are known to strip away the coatings on your lenses.
Thus far into our testing we haven't had any reports of nerdwax staining or damaging glasses… I have done a lot of research and have avoided using any ingredients that are known to degrade the coatings commonly used on plastic and metal frames. With that said this will be our first major run of nerdwax and you will be using it at your own risk and we are not liable for any damage to any eyewear.
