Live the Legend
Labyrinthos is an innovative strategic exploration game inspired by the ancient Greek legend of the Minotaur. Players take on the roles of Athenian sacrifices that have been forced into the Labyrinth to feed the monstrous son of Minos. Each player must explore the maze to uncover its secrets and outsmart the other sacrifices trying to escape.
Labyrinthos has been in development for 2+ years and has been playtested by our largest forum team ever for over a year. With the help of so many enthusiastic players and hundreds of gameplays, Labyrinthos is a game that is easy to learn, quick to play, and offers tons of interesting player choices!
A constantly changing game board
The Labyrinth is a place of twisting pathways where one can get lost for a lifetime. Maze tiles turn unexpectedly, secret passages lead to new places, and walls appear out of nowhere. Players will need to stay alert and keep adapting their strategy as their opponents transform and manipulate the maze.
Choose the types of actions you want to make each turn
In Labyrinthos, players have total control over their actions and action tokens! Each action costs a certain number of feet or hand tokens. Movement actions often cost feet tokens while manipulating the maze requires hand tokens. At the end of a player’s turn they must take 7 action tokens but may choose exactly how many of each token to take for their next turn. The Labyrinth is constantly changing so it’s important to choose a mix of tokens that will help you deal with unexpected challenges.
Characters with unique abilities for amazing replayability
In Labyrinthos all heroes have a special ability that’s completely unique to them. These abilities prompt differing strategies depending on the hero you play. Will you play the trap-dodging Diodotus, or Leona the Minotaur manipulator?
Player actions change throughout the game as the magic keys are collected
One of the most innovative mechanics in Labyrinthos is the key collecting system. Every time a player discovers a key they’ll have to choose one of the matching key tokens. Each key token contains a completely unique and powerful new action, but there’s nothing gained without sacrifice! The player will have to choose to put this new key token over one of their current actions, losing the ability to use that action for the rest of the game. Choosing the right key tokens and sacrificing your actions wisely is the difference between freedom and being lost forever!

Building the Labyrinth
Setting up the Labyrinth is simple and takes just a few minutes! Place the door tile in the middle of the table and surround it with the starting tiles. Then give the rest of the maze tiles a quick shuffle and place them in a 7x7 grid. Flip the starting tiles face up and the Labyrinth is ready to be explored!
Explore the Labyrinth
The Labyrinth is randomly generated at the start of every game so no two games are ever the same. While exploring the dangerous maze, players will discover secret passages, helpful items, dangerous traps, or an unexpected encounter with the Minotaur!
A player can perform an action on their hero board as many times as they want... as long as they can keep paying for it. Every action costs a certain number and type of action token to perform it.
Find the Keys
Daedalus hid four types of keys around the Labyrinth and players will need to find one of each before they can escape. Every time a player discovers a key they’ll have to choose one of the available matching key tokens and place it in a key slot on their hero board. Each key token has a new powerful key action but placing it in a key slot will cover up a different action. Deciding which key token to take and where to place it on your hero board is often the difference between freedom and becoming a tasty snack!
Control the Minotaur
At the end of their turn, each player will roll the Minotaur die and have a chance to control where the Minotaur will go next. If the Minotaur comes across an unlucky sacrifice, it will immediately Attack! Wounds are given to the unfortunate character based on a roll of the aptly named Blood Die.
Better Heal Those Wounds Quick
When a player receives a wound it doesn’t take away some of their life, it takes away one of their actions! When a player is wounded they must place a wound token on one of their actions. That action can’t be used again until the player heals or removes the token in another way. Players can choose to push their luck by leaving wound tokens on their actions and hoping they won’t need them in the turns to come!
Things Are Going to Get Desperate
Desperation cards represent the bursts of adrenaline one gets when they’re running for their life through a maze. Desperation cards can be played to give players sudden benefits: granting extra action tokens, forcing a player to reroll, and some even contain powerful magic items.
Escape to Freedom!
The player who discovers all four keys and is first to reach the door tile wins!
Labryinthos plays in just 30-60 minutes and is a great game for the whole family.
"While I don't normally like 'take-that' games, Labyrinthos finds the right balance of strategy, exploring, and competition. My sister and I love to manipulate the maze and the Minotaur to try to hinder the other. Most of our games end with both of us racing towards the exit in a close finish that comes down to one turn--or mistake-- leading to victory." - Playtester RomyCat
"We really enjoyed the 'randomality' of the game. Because the tiles are laid out face down each time you play, each game plays out a little differently than the others adding a lot of replay value to the game." - Playtester Wrenwyth
"There's a Minotaur. What more do you need to know? " - Playtester Wrenwyth
"Joli jeu de stratégie où il faut éviter le Minotaure, mais aussi les ruses des autres joueurs pour nous empêcher de sortir le premier du labyrinthe." - Le jeu, une passion en société
One of our awesome playtesters has made Labyrinthos available on Tabletop Simulator! (Note that it may not represent the final version of the game.)

Stretch goals are pre-set and static which is...boring. Making a new game come to life is fun and we believe a kickstarter should reflect that! So instead of having stretch goals we have Mystery Goals! Mystery Goals is a mini game within the Kickstarter where the backers will direct the hero, Sostrate, through the Labyrinth! These goals aren’t tied to a funding number because we believe that those supporting the project deserve cool stuff regardless whether they are a massive mob or a few brave believers.
Participate in the game by voting on which direction to go in the comments section. Each update we’ll flip over the tile that won the vote and reveal the treasure inside! New clues will then appear and backers can start discussing where they’d like to go next!
Upon entering the Labyrinth, Sostrate finds herself surrounded by darkness. To one side she can hear an ominous rustling. On the other, something catches the light reflecting off her shield and sparkles in the darkness.
As she creeps towards the rustling noise, she grips her spear tighter, ready to face whatever creature may lay in wait. As the light in the room grows she finds... a stack of linen parchment rustling in a slight breeze. All copies of Labyrinthos will now feature a luxurious linen texture on the box, cardboard tokens, standees, and cards!
There are two new passages leading into the darkness: In one passage she can hear a rattling noise, like the sound of dry bones. In the other passage she can hear a heart stopping roar burst from the dark.
In a close battle, 'Roar' beat out 'Rattle' for the next unlocked Mystery Goal. So what does our hero find.....
Pulling her shield closer to her body, Sostrate lowers her head and enters the passage from which the roar emanated. As her eyes adjust to the dim light, she can barely make out the silhouette of a monstrous form. A menacing growl echoes across the stonework as the creature slowly moves toward her....
All copies of Labyrinthos will now contain an Alternate Art monster!
We will commission an original piece of art from Alyssa Menold to create an alternate monster for the game. This monster will be used the same as the Minotaur.....but we need your help deciding what it will be. So head on over to the main comments section and let us hear your ideas for an alternate Legendary Monster. Will it be Medusa, a Gorgon, a Dracolich? The choice is yours! Once the votes are cast, we will get Alyssa to illustrate it during the campaign!
Enjoy Running In Terror From....
Out of the darkness comes the creature, swaying hypnotically from side to side. With the body of serpent the gorgon's face is eerily beautiful...if you're foolish enough to look at it. The hissing of the enraged snakes that wreath her face fill the room!
Knowing herself to be outmatched, Sostrate uses her shield to avoid the gorgon's gaze and quickly run to the next passageway. On the way she passes a lever sticking from the ground, and uses her momentum to pull the giant switch. A wall springs up behind her, keeping her safe for now. The path ahead splits into two dead ends with a lever in front of each. One wall is engraved with a pile of human bones. The other is engraved with a sword who's pommel ends in a ram's head. Which lever does she pull?
Just kidding there are no wrong choices...just deadly ones!
After carefully examining both walls, Sostrate makes her decision. After nearly being turned to stone by the unexpected arrival of Medusa, she doesn't want to test fate by opening a wall marked with death. She walks in front of the wall emblazed with a beautiful ram's head sword and places her hand on the lever next to it. With all her might she pulls until a loud click echoes through the chamber. The wall slowly sinks into the floor and a slight breeze seems to come from ahead. Suddenly shower of ram headed blades start flying towards her! While she's able to get behind her shield and block most of them, she winces as a few cut her legs and arms. Cursing herself for walking into a trap she bandages herself up and limps forward.
All copies of Labyrinthos will now have Die-cut Wound, Hand, and Feet Tokens!
Carefully exploring the room for any further traps, Sostrate determines there's no other nasty surprises hiding within. On one side of the room a passage leads upward disappearing from sight. From somewhere above she can hear a sound of mechanical whirs and clicks. On the other side a mossy wet passage slopes down into darkness. If she chooses that way she'll have to take care not to Slip and Roll down the dangerous path.
Will she head towards the whirs and clicks. or carefully work her way down the slop to keep from a Slip and Roll.
Just can't resist all those whirs and clicks!
Intrigued by the strange mechanical noises coming from above, Sostrate decides to climb the passageway that leads upwards. As the path twists and turns the mechanical noises grow in intensity, until they becomes a thunderous roar. Covering her ears, she steps out into a massive room lit by torchlight. All around her gears move as the room clicks into new formations. From the floor small stone walls pop up, rotate, and sink back down, creating an almost wavelike effect that makes her feel queasy to her stomach. She can see five large metal statues within the flowing walls. Four rumble around the room on what appear to be tracks embedded in the floor, while one sits silently, as if waiting for her. As she approaches a tingly dread starts at the base of her spine. The statue is a perfect replica of her and sits an a room carved with gears. She spins on her heels as a sudden rumbling noise erupts behind her. A bronze statue of the Minotaur is charging towards her and she realizes with horror what this moving room represents. It's a living map of the Labyrinth and the Minotaur will be here any second!
You've discovered one of Daedalus' workshops! The Labyrinthos Token Shield is now available as an add on to all backers!
As the Minotaur statue rumbles closer, Sostrate desperately scans the room for an escape. Near a workbench covered in scrolls, she spots an old wooden door carved with an owl. As she sprints to it a small glimmer catches her eye. A bit of painted gold leaf on a mural depicting the Gods has caught the light of one of the torches. Apollo almost seems to be reaching for the torch as he dances with his siblings. The Minotaur is now so close Sostrate can hear him bellowing up the passage she came from. There's not enough time to reach both! Which part of the room will Sostrate sprint towards?
Making a dead run
It's only then that she realizes the grass under her feet and the blue sky over her. Hearing a wiring noise ades. She sprints past the unusual torch and makes a dead run towards the owl door. As she lays her hand on the door ring the Minotaur bursts into the room. For a moment it's as if Sostrate's mind can't register the creature before her. Her mind frantically tries to understand the fangs and snarling muscles that distort the eerily familiar face of an animal she grew up with. For a moment they lock eyes and that's the worst part of all. The eyes are unmistakably human and roll in their sockets like a child having fever dreams. Under her hand she feels the door click open and those eyes snap towards her as she falls backwards through the doorway. Bellowing the Minotaur charges her as she kicks the door closed with all her might. There's a heart stopping moment as she waits for the impact of charging flesh against wood, but it never comes.
It's only then that she realizes the grass under her feet and the blue sky over her. Hearing a strange noise she tilts her head back and sees...an owl? In a cage a small owl hops up and down making all sorts of strange noises. As she walks closer she can see the bird's feathers are made of paper thin gold and silver while it's eyes sparkle with rubies. After a moment's hesitation she unlocks the cage door and the owl hoots with delight as it soars in arcing circles over the garden. Finally it settles on her shoulder and chirps contently. In the cage two large gems sparkle in the sunlight. Trying not to think of them as magic owl droppings, Sostrate gingerly picks them up and places them in her sash. If she ever makes it out of the Labyrinth alive, she'll have some incredible stories to tell her family.

As Sostrate searches the garden for a new way out, her new companion flies back to the door and perches on the handle. "I don't think so friend" she says as she investigates a largish crack in the wall. The small owl begins hopping madly and making agitated whirring noises. With a deep sigh Sostrate walks over to see if she can calm the bird down. As she reaches the door the owl jumps down on the handle hard and she can see the carving on the door change. Instead of a wooden owl there is now the image of a shield. With another jump the carving changes to a Mountain. "You are indeed a wise if strange owl" she says as the bird flies back to her shoulder.
Which symbol will she set the door to before opening it? Shield or Mountain?
A mysterious awakening
Sostrate opens her eyes and looks around the candlelit temple. There's no way to tell time in this otherworldly place but she feels rested and strong again. Sensing something has changed, she scans the room for the source of the feeling. The murals on the walls no longer depict the story of the Labyrinth but show a grinning man in priest's robes and golden sandals. The grin seems friendly but in the flickering light it seems to turn to a sneer. His arms are spread out in front of him as if offering a choice between two gifts. As her eyes follow his hands she can see two items laying on the ground in front of the mural. Beneath the left hand lies a small stuffed toy of the Minotaur. Beneath the right hand is a rag doll dressed exactly as Sostrate. Stepping forward hesitantly Sostrate reaches out and grabs...
A way forward
You've unlocked the Labyrinthos Minotaur Valhalla Screen! e reaches out and pulls the Minotaur doll towards her. She never looks away from the mural but suddenly the priest is laughing or perhaps crying, mouth gaping open with darkness inside. Wasn't he grinning when she came in? She can't remember now but the hair prickling on the back of her neck lets her know it's time to leave this place. Behind her a door slams open with a loud BANG! The darkness beyond the door is the same as the one inside the priest. She has a sense of double vision as she walks to the door, her owl glinting as it flies ahead. It's as if she's watching someone else from a higher perspective. She sees a girl, dressed in her parents armor, clutching her stuffed animal and toy spear, slowly become enveloped in darkness.
You've discovered the Labyrinthos Minotaur Valhalla Screen!
We know what you're thinking. "Wait isn't Labyrinthos a board game? Is this something that I can even use to play that game? What is this chaos?!" They answer is yes it's totally a board game and no it's not usable in the game and is only intended as a GM screen for RPGs. So why is it here? Dog Might owes much of its success to the RPG fans who support us and often cheer us on. While we're excited to bring Labyrinthos and our new game division to life, we felt it was important to make sure that there was something in the project that honored and excited the gamers who love our RPG stuff. With this in mind the game's artist, Alyssa, designed this very special Labyrinthos Valhalla screen just for them so they can join in on the fun too!
As she stumbles through the darkness, Sostrate eventually loses all sense of time. She could have been following the small golden glints of the metal owl's feathers for minutes or hours. Phantoms of her past and the monsters of her present seem to slip in and out of her sight. Eventually two lights appear in the darkness ahead of her. The first light is blue and appears to flow back and forth, casting odd shadows on the wall. The other is yellow and flickers, making the walls before it look like they are covered in flames. The lights seem to lead in different directions...

Game Designer. Lindsey Rode is a tabletop game designer who can normally be found trying to sneak away from her job as a Dog Might Game’s Creative Director. She has a self awarded degree in pluckiness and feels extremely fortunate to have a full time job working with games. Many of her designs are inspired by the stories she loved as a kid and the endless make believe games she created with her younger twin brothers. Her greatest dream is the return of summers off and that her dog Sawdust will someday find buried treasure.
Artist. Alyssa Menold is an illustrator based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. As a child she dreamed of attending Hogwarts and becoming a powerful witch, but when her letter never arrived she went with plan B: becoming an artist. This career led her to pursue a BFA in illustration at Kendall College of Art and Design, and then later an MFA in illustration from Hartford Art School’s low residency program. Nowadays the only wand she uses is the wand tool in Photoshop, but she enjoys the magic of bringing fantasy and science fiction worlds to life for people to play in. She currently teaches at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, and freelances under the supervision of her two fluffy dogs.
Graphic Designer. Ali Prater is a smiley graphic designer based in Columbus, Ohio. What is there to smile about in Columbus, you ask? Lots, apparently, she says. Ali attended the Columbus College of Art and Design, where she got her BFA, majoring in Advertising and Graphic Design. Shortly after graduation, she moved to London, where she worked for 5 years on both her English accent and her career in strategic brand design and packaging. She recently moved back to the states and works as an independent artist, without an English accent (devastating), but with a passion for coming alongside brands and helping them visually communicate what magical thing they want to bring into the world.

Risks and challenges
This is Dog Might's 16th Kickstarter and we have an established history on the platform. We love the Kickstarter community and are completely transparent with all of our backers as we fulfill.
We are known for making kickass wooden gaming gear but the company started by developing and producing board games. With your help, Labyrinthos will be our fourth board game title! We know the possible pitfalls in publishing and are confident that we can deliver this game within our stated timeline.
Labyrinthos has been in development and playtesting for over a year and is a fully developed game. After the Kickstarter completes we will finish any remaining graphic design, art, editing, and final proofing before sending it out for production. During this process small changes can occur in the art and wording of the cards.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
