SODOM: CAN ONE NIGHT CHANGE YOUR LIFE?
SODOM: CAN ONE NIGHT CHANGE YOUR LIFE?
Change isn't easy. All we need is courage. And to never look back.

SODOM confronts the dark heart of identity and challenges us to believe that we can be who we are.
A dream isn’t enough. You also need the courage to make it come true.
And that’s what SODOM is about. Of course, on its simplest level, it’s a coming-out story distilled into one night. But it’s also more than that. It’s a universal story of courage. And without that story staring me in the face with every rewrite, every day of shooting and every re-edit, I’m not sure I would have had the courage to see this film through.
It’s a story I believe in, not only because it gives us hope that one’s life course isn’t ever set in stone, but also because I don’t believe this is the time for gay rights to put its feet up. Yes, there’s marriage equality in many parts of the western world. But there’s still more to do. And it’s not just what’s happening elsewhere in the world, it’s what’s happening inside all of us. Gay or straight, we need to tackle the homophobia within. Confronting those fears is the true test of our courage. Can we let go of them? It’s a universal question. Regardless whether you’re gay, a filmmaker or just someone with a dream.
I'm writer/director Mark Wilshin and this is my first English-language feature film written over two years. If you believe in what you read below, then please help our story be heard and support us.
We’re a cast and crew that believe this isn’t over yet. Silence isn’t tolerance and tolerance isn’t acceptance. But first we have to accept ourselves.
It’s a very honest film.
Depicting the psychological experience of coming out as well as the doubts and worries of the out and proud, SODOM opens a debate on the fears that hold a powerful grip over all of us.
It's about all kinds of fear.
It’s not just homophobia. Humiliation, failure, doubt and disappointment, these are the fears that hold us back. But sometimes all we have to do is take the plunge and not look back.
This is about hope.
We believe one night can change your life. If the secret to happiness is freedom then we must face our fears and dare to love ourselves. For the secret to freedom is courage.
Because we should all be who we are.
And this led a world-renowned cast and crew to believe in this film and why it had to be made. Starring Jo Weil and Pip Brignall, SODOM is an intimate, quietly emotional film that showcases performance and courage; it’s about belief. And so is the story of how the film came to be.
Unlike most films, SODOM was shot over ten nights in just two weeks. Sleeping for a few hours during the day and working all night, the cast and crew worked tirelessly to make this film a reality because we believe it had to be made.
Twenty-year-old footballer Will (Pip Brignall) is on his stag-do in an unnamed European city when, naked and handcuffed to a lamppost, he is rescued by former pianist Michael (Jo Weil). Back at Michael’s apartment, the attraction between the two men is immediate. But, unable to bring himself to leave, Will is sent into a tailspin of shame and confusion. And so they spend a night together that could change both of their lives forever. If only they have the courage to let it.
Believe and back us; we invite you to share this one night with us.
We’d love you to be our first backers to see SODOM launched and we’d be grateful for whatever support you are able to give us.
If you want to see our film and believe others should too, then you can buy it now to watch on first release online at a fair price here on Kickstarter. You’ll be guaranteed to see SODOM regardless of final release date, or film festival, cinema or online order. As a backer and part of a limited audience you’ll even be able to see the film before the general public do.
Spread the Word.
Crowdfunding is all about community. It’s about getting a huge amount of people together who believe in what you’re doing and support you where they can. If you believe in what we’re doing then please help us reach others who do too.
Any money you give us is 100% dedicated to making this film a reality.
We're so close to making this film happen but we need your help for the final phase. Without your funding the message of our story won't be heard.
So what if we over-achieve?
- Our first stretch target is €16,000 (120%)
With this extra funding we'll submit SODOM to some further festivals close to you, our community backers.
- Our second stretch target is €21,000 (160%)
With this extra funding we'll be able to submit SODOM to all international festivals and work with selected community groups to provide free screenings.
We are Dogandwolf.com.
Starting out as a world cinema blog, DogAndWolf.com has evolved into an internationally recognised online film magazine covering major festivals from Berlin to Cannes that provides free content for the love of film.
Watching films though, it turns out, just wasn’t enough. And so we decided to make the move into filmmaking. Now, with a few short films under our belt, we are completing post-production on our first feature, SODOM.
Risks and challenges
All film is risk. And this project is about belief. We believe that we are creating a high-quality, feature length film with an engaging and compelling story but we can't (yet) speak on behalf of any of the festivals or distributors that would be our outlets.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
