Send Doctor Nerve to the Zappanale & More Festival in Bad Doberan, Germany! We are raising money to cover the airfare for the eight musicians in the band.

We've been invited to do two shows at Zappanale, in August 2011. We'll also be participating in after hour jams, attending panel discussions, film screenings, meeting fans, other musicians, and promoters... it'll be a very productive and intense couple of days.

We will be rehearsing in NYC and then fly out to Zappanale a few days before the gig in August. Airfares to Europe are high this time of year, up to $1000 per seat. Our Kickstarter goal is set at $6000 (a couple grand shy of the total airfare), because we believe this goal is attainable. But we also hope to exceed that goal!

The Zappanale and More Festival has been celebrating the legacy of the music of composer Frank Zappa for over 20 years. Doctor Nerve’s music has been profoundly influenced by Zappa’s iconoclastic innovation, and has been active for over 25 years. This is a unique opportunity for Doctor Nerve to participate in an international community that shares deep roots.

Doctor Nerve is:

  • Leo Ciesa - drums
  • Nick Didkovsky - guitar
  • Yves Duboin - soprano sax
  • Rob Henke - trumpet
  • Ben Herrington - trombone
  • Jesse Krakow - bass
  • Michael Lytle - bass clarinet
  • Kathleen Supove - keyboards

We hope you'll support this effort and send Doctor Nerve to Zappanale!!!

Pledge $10 or more About $10

Digital download of 2 full length CD’s: “Beta 14 Ok” and “Every Screaming Ear”.

Beta 14 OK contains SCREAMINGLY high energy performances of superbly convoluted compositions. "Riotous punk jazz freak-out, expertly written and performed. One of Doctor Nerve's very finest.". Includes 16 tunes plus the now infamous “44 Nerve Events to be programmed in inventive sequences”.

Every Screaming Ear reveals itself as the ultimate Doctor Nerve experience. Every aspect of the band is represented in its context, so to speak: the ultra-complex, light-speed fast tunes, the contemporary chamber works, and the downright craziness that becomes so palpable when seeing the band live. The Nerve experience translates completely to record. All the essential Doctor Nerve is represented on this disc. A must for fans of avant-rock madness.

Everything from the $25 and $10 levels PLUS an autographed copy of Nerve’s most recent CD “The Monkey Farm”.

The Monkey Farm is Didkovsky's musical setting for Chuck O'Meara's (aka Vrtacek) dark and funny stories of childhood. Framed by razor sharp conducted improvisation performed by the legendary and incorruptible band Doctor Nerve, these short, vivid, recollections of O'Meara's childhood are read by theatre director Valeria Vasilevski (known for her extreme work with Diamanda Gallas among others). Real-time voice warping using special software designed by Phil Burk, Robert Marsanyi, and Didkovsky, colors the performance, which at times invokes the spirits of Captain Beefheart, John Cage, and David Sedaris. Brilliantly mastered by Thomas Dimuzio.

RIDICULOUSLY GOOD DEAL: Everything from all previous reward levels PLUS two FULL LENGTH concert performances of Doctor Nerve at The Knitting Factory in 1991 on DVD. These are single camera shoots, taped by a fellow very close to the stage and sometimes crawling around on stage with his camera, wearing kneepads.
Note these are not super high fidelity MTV quality videos, BUT these are clear historical records, and LOTS of fun to watch. Intense, committed performances. Never before seen! Two really rippin' shows from Beta 14 Ok era.

The lineup for one show was:
    Greg Anderson - bass,
    Leo Ciesa - drums,
    Nick Didkovsky – guitar,
Dave Douglas – trumpet and baritone thing,
    Yves Duboin – soprano sax,
    Rob Henke – trumpet,
    Michael Lytle – bass clarinet,
    Marc Wagnon - vibraphone.

The lineup for the second show as above without Dave Douglas.

So that's a total bounty of two full album digital downloads, a DVD of Nerve at The Knitting Factory shot with three cameras (15 minutes program length), an autographed copy of The Monkey Farm CD, a cool first-run-ever T-Shirt, PLUS two DVD's of single camera video shoots of two full length concerts!!!

A copy of the No Man's Land release of the first Doctor Nerve vinyl LP "Out to Bomb Fresh Kings." Long out of print. Autographed by everyone in the current band. Beautiful, bold record design by Peter Bader. High quality European vinyl pressing. These LP's have been in storage for 25 years, so you can expect a little buckling around an edge here and there. But they are beautiful and from Nick's personal stash that he promised never to touch. That's why we're only letting two of these go. If you choose this reward, we'll pick the best looking copies.
