This time, in collaboration with 1 Simple Idea we created a new and one of its kind playing cards deck, called “Lotería Playing Cards” inspired by the traditional Mexican game.
Meet one of the richest, catching color tones and detailed designs from edge to edge in playing cards.
Tapping into historical Mexican traditions, Loteria Playing Cards references the unique and classic board game "La Loteria" reinventing and merging powerful colors and patterns that make each of their cards come alive. They were illustrated and modernized into 21st century trends without losing its traditional identity.
We knew that the challenges and complexity of the project were higher than most any other in the industry, for which we had the privilege to team up with talented Mexican artist and illustrators from 1SI Company.
LOTERIA playing cards features a Premium CRUSHED Stock with a Silky and Smooth Linen Air Cushion Finish printed by USPCC. Its whole front design was inspired by the exclusive Mexican traditional board game "La Loteria" and then it was fusion with modern, artistic, and gorgeous illustrations. For the back design, emblematic and detailed patterns lead to create this exclusive deck, we are certain that they will captivate magicians, cardistry lovers and collectors.

La Lotería became part of the Mexican popular culture from the Colonial Era, since the game was brought to Mexico by Spain. The game was originally played betting money because it was reserved for the upper class, however; it later came to the hands of the villagers becoming a traditional game that you can still find at any Mexican fair.
The Classic Loteria Game is very simple to play, it consist on a deck of 54 unique pieces of cards, 16 of these are randomly distributed on different boards that are given to the players along with their chips to cover the squares, which were previously raw beans. There is a person who is responsible for announcing or "to sing" each card that according to the Mexican language is known as “El Gritón”.
Similar to Bingo, the goal is to be the first to cover all the cards of the board, however; what distinguishes this game are the “coplas” which are short poems that accompany each card that is sung referring to what is represented in each one without necessarily using its name; what has become a tradition that is related to Mexican poetry and folklore. Find more information about Loteria history here.
We RECREATED the classic Loteria game adding a touch of elegance, modernity and character into every single card, which can be used to play the traditional game with a really nice touch of ....
During the campaign we will be playing onlne the Classic Loteria Game! Every 3 days we will be randomly revealing the card of the day by simulating "El Gritón" role.
"Se va y se corre con..." ¡EL DIABLITO!
We wanted to give life to a game so loved by all Mexican families that has passed from generation to generation, through modern and very creative illustrations where each letter has its own personality. Each design was first illustrated by hand by very talented people and then went through the process of digitization; where it was sought that each character had even the smallest detail in art, creating a deck that can convey that warmth that all Mexicans have, as it is to feel a hug or a good family meal while remaining a premium product for the magic industry.

THE GAFF CARD
Of course we couldn’t left behind the idea of having an exclusive and unique gaff card for this project, we used “The Diablito” card for its iconic meaning on Loteria game. And surely as well for representing “the heat” behind its primarily meaning, and for this reason we wanted to create a singular, great and visual effect using our fingers to simulate the action of the ink melting down while deforming the iconic character.
We are sure all magic enthusiasts will love the reactions and visual effects than can be achieved with this card routine.
*Card routine included on any pledge of Loteria Playing Cards. Tutorial link will be sent by mail.
THE UNCUT SHEET
War, love, adventure and tragedy ... are the main concepts that you will find in our deck, each pip tells a different story where the characters of the game come alive.
"The Death Riding Her Skinny Donkey"
An entire platoon broke into the house of the Brave, who waited for them knife in hand, hidden between the thresholds. There were many on the platoon, but the Brave was bold and strong, and he knew his own house. One by one the soldiers fell, until the only ones left, in a room with two doors, were the Brave and a Soldier, who was scrawny and timorous, but an excellent marksman.
None of them would go after the other -the Soldier out of fear, the Brave out of prudence-, so they both hid behind the furnishings. So much time they spent there, that Death herself, gaunt in her fancy dress, with a following of dead soldier skulls, went inside the room to tell them that she was tired of waiting. Everyone else was ready to go, and the two of them weren’t worth a second round.
So she had two black widows bite them in their hiding spots.“You can come out and kill each other, or you can run away to treat that bite.” Then she added, mordacious: “Or, you may stay right there, and die the cowards you are.”
After that, Death left the room -so as to give them some space-, leaving both doors open.
"The Beautiful Severiana, Her High Heels She Was Wearing"
The Lady takes an elegant walk all along the main street; anywhere she goes admiring eyes follow, and she has got the Musician and the Dandy clinging to her like birds on a branch.
The Dandy, carrying his cane, buys her chocolates, roses and sweets; the Musician, with his guitar, sings to her the most beautiful things. The Dandy imagines her wearing a spectacular wedding gown; the Musician sees her eyes and dreams of them being a fawn’s.
And when the Lady goes with the Dandy, the Musician wants to cry, and he ponders now and then whether to sell his guitar.
And when with the Musician The Lady leaves, the Dandy alone always stays, throwing his cane, on a temper tantrum, over the avenue lanes.
And the Lady? She knows she wants to want something, but what she wants she doesn’t know; she never tells them to stay, but never asks them to go. And if either speaks of love, she smiles, and doesn’t say “yes”, but neither does she says “no”.
"Row And Row, Joaquinita, And Don't Stop Rowing"
One night Apache dreamed that Coyote, the creature made immortal by the Old Man, asked Apache to follow him. Together they reached a great lake, where coyote demanded that he threw his arrows. Apache was hesitant, but he obeyed Coyote, whom he believed very wise.
A beautiful mestiza dreamed of God, commanding her to take the flowers on her chinampa and leave them on the eastern lakeshore. The mestiza didn’t know why, but then again, “God has his reasons”; she took her flowers on her chalupa, and rowed towards the rising sun.
The mulatto dreamed that Soledad, famous Córdoba lady, showed him a drawing of flowers on a chalupa. Then, she turned the drawing into a door, and asked him to sprinkle sugar on the flowers. The mulatto trusted Soledad, filled a jar with sugar, and crossed the paper frame.
The three dreamers found a blue stag standing over the lake’s water. The stag closed in, ate the flowers on the chalupa, and walked away. The dreamers didn’t know why, but they knew they had to follow it. All three boarded the chalupa, and rowed behind the blue stag.
"Half Body Of Mermaid, Half Body Of Woman"
He was a Drunkard, captain of a ship, a womanizer and dreamer; she was a Mermaid, wild and free, mythical seductress and man-eater. They met on the high seas, under the star of Antares -the heart of the scorpion, bad omen for danger and fatality-: it was love at first sight, foolish and hasty; but the sea is large, life goes around, and since that day they never saw each other again. Weeks and months went by, and, thorn and apart, the drunkard and the mermaid seeked, each on its own, a deal with the Devil: “my soul to meet again with my beloved.”
To each the Devil gave the same words: “There is no deal you can offer, for you own not a soul to sell me” -and on each case it was true-; “but, there is one thing I can offer for free. I’ll have you see your beloved where you most want it to be found; should you both want the same, and are both drawn to go there, you are bound to be together.” Drunkard and Mermaid, desperate to find each other, ignorant and incautious, accepted the deal; and the Devil, who knew them better than themselves, was almost sad to grant their wishes.
Since that day, the Mermaid sees the Drunkard drowned at the bottom of the sea, and everyday se weeps salty tears; and the Drunkard sees the Mermaid at the bottom of every bottle, so he drinks non-stop, trying to pull her out.
