In the fall of 2011, I became immersed in scientific and philosophical theories. In particular, I was obsessed with scientific diagrams, which explain theories and properties though drawings. Although these rudimentary drawings were without any leanings towards aesthetics, I found then to be beautiful, though that is clearly not their intention. I was inspired to create my own interpretations of the concepts of consciousness and other theories on a scientific, philosophical, and spiritual level through a simplified means such as drawing. All of the projects I have created begin as drawings, which I feel have a beauty and intimacy that paintings cannot capture. The subtle lines that graphite creates and the quickness in which one can capture an idea makes this medium alluring.
My wife Paula and I felt that these completed works would be best presented together in a beautifully designed book and strongly believed that they should be accompanied by the writings of arts professionals and scientists from varying disciplines to offer their interpretations of the connection between science and art. I am deeply grateful to have such an esteemed group of scientists and writers who have committed to contributing to this book. You can see them in the contributor’s section below.
I’m an artist from Tucson, Arizona. I have exhibited my work in museums and galleries worldwide and have created artwork for clients such as PBS, Atlanic Records, and the multi-platinum bands POD and Good Charlotte, as well as three public art projects for the Phoenix Metro Light Rail. I have designed my last three art books and have been published in Rolling Stone Magazine, Spin Magazine, Juxtapoz Magazine, Low Rider Magazine, New American Paintings, The Huffington Post, and Raw Vision Magazine. My wife, Paula and I own Sacred Machine Museum and are the co-founders of the band Blind Divine.
In this project, I will produce a full color 128-page 11"x8" hardback book, which documents my latest series of 40 graphite drawings and includes essays from several esteemed contributors from a variety of scientific disciplines. As demonstrated by my experience in layout and design of my previous three art books, Triginta Uno Dies, Mysterium Fidei, and Anatomy Of Sorrow all published by La Luz de Jesus and Last Gasp, and with your generous support, we will be on our way to producing a world-class art book.
WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES
I hope to raise enough money through Kickstarter to design and print "Soul Of Science" on my own. If you pledge to support this project, here is what your money is going towards:
—paying for the layout and design of the book
—paying for the printing and manufacturing of the book
—paying the contributors/writers and editors
—paying for shipping and fulfillment
As with any Kickstarter, I will not accept your money unless the project is fully funded.

Now that we've reached our initial funding goal, I would like to present some stretch goals!
$10,000 -- REACHED! Thank you everyone for helping me reach my goal! We did it in one day! My deepest gratitude! It's a very special feeling to make this new book come alive and to self-publish it. Thank you for sharing my link on Facebook, Twitter and to personal friends.
200 Backers -- REACHED! To celebrate our 200th backer, I would like to offer a complimentary "Soul Of Science" postcard and sticker to all backers at the $40 level or more! Thank you!
$20,000 -- REACHED! My next goal was to produce a special signed and numbered collector's limited edition slipcase for "Soul of Science," as Silver Level 3 and now we have reached it that goal! It will be a cloth bound slipcase with stamped silver foil with the book inside. If you have already pledged, you may upgrade to this slipcase edition by adding the additional pledge amount. Thank you for your continued support of my art and the music of Blind Divine. I hope that we will be able to share in the creative spirit for many years to come.

Risks and challenges
The bulk of the challenge has been met. The artwork for the book is complete. The printing company, Prolong Press has 28 years experience in the book printing business. The risks and challenges faced at this stage are likely to come to from outside sources beyond our control, such as the unexpected death or disability of a member of the creative team or contributors, a disaster at the printing facility, or loss of product during shipping to our warehouse. Fortunately, my wife Paula and I have been creating products through our company Mysticus Publishing since 1989, and with our extensive experience can enlist the resources of other book printers and possible contributors should the need arise.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
