The Time Machine is a community funded film project based on the novella by H.G. Wells with a steampunk inspired production design. This movie is being filmed in central New Jersey in early April 2011 for a Fall/Winter release.
At it's most basic level The Time Machine is about a man, who through an odd set of circumstances is presented with a series of events that challenge him physically and emotionally. He must overcome these in order to survive and return home to his waiting friends.
You can read the original story by HG Wells on which the film is based, here:
Why make this movie?
I have always loved The Time Machine in it's original form, but I was extremely dissatisfied by the few attempts to adapt this novella into film. So I decided that if I wanted to see this move done correctly, I was going to have to make it myself. Most of the dialogue and all of the events in the film are taken directly from the book, faithfully adapting this story.
Where is this money going?
Making a movie is expensive, and even with our $20,000 budget we are just barely going to make it. The funding we receive from your support will be going to pay for:
CASTING - We are going to need solid actors for this extremely performance driven film. This means that we are going to need to arrange fair pay for our actors, who are most likely not local, so we need transportation and lodging as well
TRANSPORT - While most of our shoots will be in a studio we will have some location shoots,. This means we need transportation for all of our cast, crew, props, and equipment. Likely more than once.
STUDIO FEES - We are going to be filming this movie at Studio City in Trenton, NJ. They have the best support and facilities in the state, all of which will help us to make a quality final product. But all of that is not free, we need to pay rent for out pre-production and production space for the duration of the project.
CATERING - With a project this size we are going to need a large crew, and a large crew means lots of food. And I would like to at least be able to provide pizza and coffee for everyone.
PRODUCTION DESIGN - While a good portion of this film will be shot on a green screen, we will need a few sets along with props, costumes, and makeup.
We are currently in early pre-production for this film and are ready to begin the casting process. While the Kickstarter campaign is running we are going to be casting, story-boarding, and designing the look of the film. We are going to start building the props and sets in late March so we can begin filming in early-mid April. After we are finished filming the project we are going to spend the next 6-8 months editing the film and finishing all the digital effects work. During this time we are also going to do any dialogue re-recording needed and create all the promotional materials. We are hoping for a late Fall or Winter release this year.
