Check this out guys: Golden Ferrofluid for $60 (and I am sure it will ship in less than 3 years)

i comically check back on this project from time to time... thinking there is going to be some kind of new info... update.. whatever. i think its safe to bet that there is absolutely nothing... the project has failed... at least just respond back and say that. just admit defeat. the "game changer" update is so past due that it is meaningless at this point. just come out and say the project is dead.

    4. Dave Fishman on

5 months without an update ... Dude just send us what you have ... Starting to think you don't even have anything to send us ... Just pocketing the cash

    5. Matt Beemsterboer on

I recall discussion of the product 'finish' from months and months ago and I, for one, am with every person who said they didn't care about the finish being perfect. I am also in the camp that thought the 'unfinished' version looked great. So, what's the deal? Rather than put the items together unfinished, a process you know full well how to do, you want to cop out and just send all of the pieces and let us just have at it?
I've never commented on here about this because, frankly, I've already given you my money and long since gotten over the idea of having this as a cool desk piece. (Luckily I don't have a standard work desk anyway...) But to me the idea of getting a bunch of pieces in the mail makes me far more disgruntled than the idea of having to wait another 6 months for the finished product. I'd much rather have you, the expert, put it together whenever you have the time so I do, someday, get the reward that was promised.

    6. Jeff Flowers on

Echoing what has been recently said - I really think that we could (perhaps deserve) some closure.

Stuff happens, I would be happy knowing that it just didn't connect in the end. Knowing this coupled with how the monies were spent - this being key - would allow me to put this matter to bed.

David - With all due respect, we have been waiting for this magical update since June 25th, close to four fucking months ago! Cut the crap. Enough with the promised updates. You have had the "finish" problem now for 6+ months. Please just send me the pieces I paid for and I will figure out how to put it together myself. Surely it will take me less 6 months to do that.

    8. Fabio Pettinati on

Hi David... I've supported about 50 projects, some quite expensive, others quite fun. The main reason I pledge is to help people bring their dreams to life, whatever they may be. Every once in a while dreams get a life of their own and become nightmares haunting their creators. That's OK and part of growing up as a person. Who among your backers has not failed? I have and a couple of times at that, both personally and professionally. You know what? Life goes on. Sometimes it's best to simply admit that the dream is gone, turn the page and move on. If you've reached that point, rather than continuing being haunted just admit that the obsession to get it done is pointless. I'm sure people will appreciate that honesty; I for one will. Wishing you good luck in your future endeavors.

    9. Jeff Flowers on

@David - the fact that so many people are actually still are checking up on this project, ought to demonstrate to you that there is still interest/value. With that in mind, I hope your next update comes quickly (it doesn't need to be perfect - just be completely honest.)

    10. David Markus Creator on

Yes, Kickstarter tends to become very "hands off" as soon as they get their percentage. This is true for both backers and creators. I have read your comments and I will work on more comprehensive response, however for the time being here is a summary: The parts for all rewards exist but I am disappointed with the surface finish the manufacturer supplied. Trying to rectify this issue has been the main source of delays with the project being completed. At this point I believe my only option to bring any kind of closure to this project is to send out the parts as-is and un-assembled. I will do my best to clarify more on this in the full update.

I heard back from Kickstarter. Here was their response:

      -----------------------------

Thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry to hear that the creator has not done a better job of communicating. We've reached out to them with a reminder of their obligations to their backer community, in addition to having forwarded along your concerns and those of your fellow backers. While we're disheartened that they have not yet updated you and other backers on the status of their project, we're unable to force them to do so. It's the creator's responsibility to communicate and complete their project as promised.

Backing a project on Kickstarter is an expression of trust. Backers pledge in hopes of helping a creator bring their idea to life. This interaction can lead to the creation of new and exciting things, but it’s also important to remember that sometimes complications might arise that prevent a project from unfolding as planned, or even from happening at all. This isn’t ideal for creators or backers, but we hope that both parties will try to communicate with each other through these developments. We’re sorry that this hasn’t been the case with this project, but hope that you’ll continue to back projects that you’re excited about.

Thank you again for sharing the experience that you have had with this project. Although we are unable to offer refunds, we are constantly working to improve the vetting process for creators and feedback such as this is exactly what helps us do so. We hope that you’ll continue to be an active member of the Kickstarter community as we learn and grow with our community.

      -----------------------------

Basically, there's no way they can force David to do anything, which I understand.

      Hello David,

Please don't ignore your supporters. Issue and update - any update. Share with us the good, bad and ugly. Failure to communicate out of fear is the worst thing you can do. Start typing right now we need to hear from you. It will only get worse if you continue to not to update.

    13. Jeff Flowers on

@David - now is probably the time for a real update. I think you owe everyone here that much.

@Brain - I would love to know what you learn from kickstarter, I think others would also like to know as well.

Personally, I would just like to know what is going on - closure basically. This was such an exciting project, and like any great endeavor - sometimes things don't connect. However, did things just not connect - or was there a lack of care taken by the project leader? This is what really bugs me. Knowing one way or the other, would set my mind at rest.

    14. Dave Fishman on

Smh can't believe the lack of responsibility and ownership here ... First and worst kickstarted project I have backed.

      Brian Kieffer on

I sent a message to Kickstarter. They'll probably just tell me that they can't do anything, but at the very least they should put this thing out of its misery.

Updates were promised, and that deadline has also come and gone.

In accordance with Kickstarter's newly revised TOS, I'm demanding that David provide a full accounting of where our money was spent, and either ship what he has so far, or issue refunds.

I'd be far more understanding if we had simply received updates as promised.

Now more than a month since the supposed "game changer" that was supposed to be revealed the next week... it is now more than 3 months since the last official update, over 2 years past the date when the items were supposed to be delivered in the first place, and David has now been holding our money for more than TWO AND A HALF YEARS.

I think you should just send what you have. No 'waiting for hex wrenches', we can all find our own. No 'writing up an assembly manual' you can post it online later, theres only a few parts. No more excuses or delays please.

    29. David Markus Creator on

Something potentially game changing has happened, but I won't have the full details until next week. As soon as I do I will be doing a posting...

    30. Jeff Flowers on

Just echoing Jai's comment - I think touching base would go a long way towards providing the community some assurance that this project is back on solid ground.

Again, I think that we're all excited about this project, even to the point of any and all necessary course corrections wrt finishes and assembly status.

    31. Missing avatar

      Jai Ramachandran on

David - I agree with Jeff, thank you for the update (which sounds completely reasonable). Looks like you are making some real progress.

      Jai

    32. Jeff Flowers on

David, thank you so much for the update. This sounds great and reasonable. Please don't hesitate to ask of the community, we're here for you. :-)

    33. David Markus Creator on

      Jai,

Before I commit to this as an option I need to make sure it's feasible. I'm currently producing assembly instructions, sourcing the hex wrenches I'll need to include, and determining what my minimum level of involvement in assembly needs to be. Once I have vetted this I will be releasing a independent survey to gather info on the desired assembly and finish options for each backer.

    34. Missing avatar

      Jai Ramachandran on

David - I hate to harop on this, but about 45 days ago you asked everyone what you should do given the state of the finish on the parts. I saw quite a few people say "send us what you have and we will put it together". Any chance that actually happens? I would be more than willing to take what I could get at this point.

    35. Debora Richards on

I be happy if you sent the thing as a kit and let me put that thing together. This is first of 3 Kickstarter projects I've been waiting for over 2 years and have received nothing. Give it some thought and offer a kit. $100 bucks is a lot to spend on nothing.

    36. Missing avatar

      Garrett Morgan on

Approaching the "2-year" mark. After you asked for what we would like...I'd be happy if you shipped the parts as you received them. I'm not putting this thing in a museum and I don't care if it doesn't match the "prototype" as an exact replica. I just want to get something that looks professional and functional. Lets get this thing going!

    37. Chris Waszak on

Thanks for the update David. Good to know there is still hope I will see my Ferrite. Hopefully you can find some high school kids looking for some beer money to help you out.

I'm tier 7. I don't care if they are crap brown in color. Just ship brother.

    39. Philip Melemed on

I would have been happy receiving my combo pack in matte white if it meant receiving these items this year. Further delays due to trying for perfection do not seem worth it. Please just find something that that is functional and professional looking, and move on to the next project/adventure!

I am also distressed that the people who gave the most money receive product later than those who gave the least. Tier 6 folks like me have to wait much longer than people who gave half as much money.

I think kickstarter has just given up on david like the rest of us. No surprise since we are going on nearly three years after we backed this supposed project. Ive sent numerous emails and messages to david with no reply so any updates are worthless if he cannot show any courtesy to us and reply to our messages.

    41. Jeff Flowers on

FYI - I don't know if it's just me or kickstarter's system is having a hiccup. But check out the latest update (May 11th). I don't know what made me look, but thought why not and glad I did.

Again: This update did not show up in my 'activity', nor the normal places in kickstarter (either web or iPhone). In the update, there's a ton of info about the state of the project.

It's really a shame considering that the project isn't being completed because of lack of effort from the founder rather than the technical or financial feasibility of the project. I hope to be proven wrong but this certainly seems to be the case

    46. Chris Waszak on

I'm starting to think David has given up on this.
