Pelted Primacy Playing Card Deck
This project is for the anticipated culmination in a first-run printing of the Pelted Primacy card deck printed in Bicycle© Playing Card style by the USPCC. My work child, this deck of furry-based artwork with a functional art feel to it, is the one thing I have worked hardest on in my design career.
My background in illustration and design comes from being a graduate student of Keystone College of La Plume, PA. I've loved anthropomorphic art since I could recognize characters like the Ninja Turtles and Tom and Jerry, and that has grown exponentially since then. I also have an affinity for playing cards. Be the motivation a game of poker or blackjack, a sleight of hand card trick, or just a way to pass the time, they brought out my true colors in my youth and the past few years, and let me express myself socially and creatively.
This project, Pelted Primacy, is actually a playing card deck that I designed and illustrated myself as my senior exhibition project to prepare myself to graduate from art school.
The playing card deck itself is completely illustrated by me, and includes a custom red backing, stylized pips for each suit (they look like paw prints! :3 ), a tuck box design laid out by me onto a Bicycle© Playing Cards template, and full-art illustrations for the King, Queen, Jack, and Joker cards, each with colors/markings/symbolical emblems representing the suit they serve. Also, each suit will represent a different species of animal. The spades will represent Canines, the hearts will represent Felines, the clubs will represent Ursines (bears), and the diamonds will represent Vulpines (foxes).
In case you didn't notice, there isn't a number listed for the minimum deck order. That's because it is based solely on the total demand of the project, plus 10-15% of that for other sales. I will produce the deck count based on the rewards sold in this campaign, and will add a percentage of that number to the total in order to offer this deck for sale on my other shopping sites/design sites. The minimum in this category for printed decks as determined by USPCC is 2,500 decks. That being said, the order I place may either be 2,500 decks or more, depending on the product demand.
Multiple Deck Discounts:
If you request the $12 reward of One Deck, and pay the following, you will receive the following amounts of decks at a great price:
5 Decks: $40 (plus $5 Int. Shipping)
10 Decks: $85 (plus $8 Int. Shipping)
20 Decks: $175 (plus $16 Int. Shipping)
PLEASE NOTE: Request the $12 single deck reward when placing these amounts as pledges for this reward.
This project will be funding the first and only run of limited edition decks, with custom tuck boxes, and allow for me to distribute my artwork to the masses in an old but classy way. Hopefully, my designs can get marketed and I can get my vision of a fun new way of seeing cards out there for people to enjoy!
As mentioned above, this run is the only run I will be doing of this deck. Afterwards, the design will be retired. With any luck, I may do a second series of Pelted Primacy decks in the future, with completely different illustrations, but right now this is the only intended run.
So please, if you ever loved playing cards, or anthropomorphic characters, or just love the idea of a new way of seeing a common product, consider becoming a backer with my project! :3
Upon complete funding of the project, I may include the following: Embossed design tuck boxes, custom dice to high-pledging backers, and possibly another deck color. These will only occur if funds allow them to do so, so keep backing! :D Also, these are the official stretch goals for the project:
Custom dice for the first 2,000 backers. Each backer will receive one custom die based on the colors and designs of this deck.
Each person who pledged at least $10 will have exactly 1 deck added to their total rewards! :D
-- BACKERS: Please keep in mind that if there is a price discrepancy with a reward, please let me know. I will take care of the reward requests on a first-come, first-serve basis. At project completion, if fully funded, backers have the standard 2 weeks to send payments. If backing is completed sooner, the decks will arrive to the backers sooner (Possibly in October). If you want to change a reward, and you have originally pledged enough money to receive that reward instead, let me know and I will try getting it arranged.
Risks and challenges
All quotes for the project have been collected and recollected for accuracy. The biggest challenge for this project will be to get the word out for it, and hopefully gain some groundswell from forums and word-of-mouth. This is the third time the project has been uploaded to Kickstarter, and hopefully the third time's the charm!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
