Soul Saga - Updates 6 and 7
I hope you are having some great holidays. Santa Cake stayed up all night programming in the new Soul Saga character and rendering out some video for your enjoyment.
This has been a huge month in the unveiling of Soul Saga's art assets, and things aren't even close to slowing down yet. There have been 2 updates at disastercake.com since our last Kickstarter update. One reveals the new Garen design, the other our new, mysterious ally of Mithos. This update will combine both updates for your convenience.
I am trying my best to squeeze the “Garen’s Saga” stretch goal into Soul Saga’s budget. So far it’s looking pretty hopeful that it can happen. Through Garen’s Saga you will be able to experience first hand that Garen is a very dynamic antagonist. To help portray this, I feel that Garen’s design needed to be a bit more down to earth and personable so that it was easier to relate to him. Our character artist, Aiko-san, has stripped him of his old heavy armor, and removed the helmet so you can see his face and emotions. He’s also got a neat arm!
Ai is the newest member of Mithos’ team whose visual design was imagined by Aiko-san. I could describe her with words… but instead we've created a video for you.
The video contains a segment of a song created by Steven Velema (Surasshu). He is our second composer on Soul Saga at the moment.
Switched Forum Software
Launching the forum was probably the best idea Soul Saga fans had. At first I was skeptical, but with some experimenting I have found a way to avoid the spam bots and minimize the need for moderating. I love connecting with everyone on the forum. However, the forum software I chose, Vanilla Forums, had some possible issues in the foreseeable future.
After looking more into Vanilla, it became quickly apparent that it would be a bad idea in the long run to stick with them. There is almost no support for the product unless you pay for their over priced hosting which is a whopping $50 a month for a limited amount of page views! Considering the fact that they switched from being a free opensource program to paid support only bodes ill for the future of their open source version. So I researched what the most powerful opensource and inexpensive forum software out there is, and I found phpBB. It does everything we need and everything we want straight out of the box. The new forum has only been up for a day and I’m already amazed at how much more power I have in controlling them. There’s also a HUGE community with help scattered across the internet that almost always results in some reasonable way to get the desired effects we need.
So long story short: you’ll have to register again at the new forums at forums.disastercake.com. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but I promise this one is our permanent home!
$15 Playstation Tier Needs To Retake Survey
I would say one of the hardest things about working with Kickstarter’s backend is that I don’t have the ability to edit or send out second surveys. You get 1 survey per tier, and only 1 survey. So you can imagine how quickly my jaw dropped to the floor when I realized I left a very important question out of the $15 Playstation tier: “Vita or PS4?” I tried to remedy it by sending out messages to everyone, but in over 2 months less than 50% of people have replied to the message. I think most people on Kickstarter don’t even realize there’s a messaging system. And even if everyone did reply to the message, it would have taken FOREVER to deal with browser loading windows to compile nearly 1,400 individual responses by hand.
So I contacted Kickstarter and they are going to reset the responses everyone in the $15 Playstation tier gave already. This will allow me to resend out the survey correctly this time. If you are in this tier and have already filled out the survey, please do it again once you get the message to do so. All data that has already been collected from that tier will be wiped. This survey should be sent out again next week sometime.
If you are in the $15 Playstation tier and see my message in your inbox, you can ignore that and just take the new survey instead.
No other tiers will be affected by this. However, There are still hundreds of people who haven’t responded to their surveys. Please take the survey if you haven’t already. You’ll know if you haven’t by the banner at the top of your Kickstarter page that says that a project requires your response. I know this banner is there on the desktop version of the site at least.
Kickstarter Fan Art Applicants Get Beta Keys
If you submitted Fan Art during the Kickstarter, you are entitled to a beta key as per my promise! If you would like this beta key, please send me a private message on Kickstarter with a link to the art piece that you did for the Fan Art event.
What Do You Think?
As always, I love to hear your thoughts. What do you think of Garen? Who, or what, do you think Ai is?
