Dirty Water Comics Presents:
Canoe Boys, the incredible story of three Canadian degenerates who drop out of university, buy a canoe, and head off for Mexico. Written by Winnipeg lowlife and Amateur-Jewish-Cage-Fighting Sensation Jamie Michaels, and illustrated by the indomitable Evin Collis.
The unwanted, yet endearing love child of Huckleberry Finn and the Trailer Park Boys, Canoe Boys is a graphic novel that captures the real feeling of adventure.
Why you should support us?
As a creative team, we want this. We've been grinding on this project for five years. To complete the field research Jamie Michaels actually canoed to Mexico. (To make matters even more incredible he had no idea at the time that there would be a graphic novel involved.)
When this project was being written, the author was taking a writing course in London, while he was literally homeless. The illustrator, Evin Collis worked on the railroad for four years while making art and saving funds for his MFA, which he completed at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He is a certified genius, check out some of his work here: http://www.evincollis.com/.
Hustle and education aside, you should support us because we're telling good stories in a beautiful way.
Is the story of adventure, the river, and the never ending pursuit of the Canadian Dream. It's the story of three childhood friends stumbling across America in search of truth, beauty, the remnants of Twain's Misssissippi, but mostly cute girls. It's a trip of great desires, poor planning, and the value of stumbling.
Take a Peek
Here's a sample of what we've been working on. Don't forget, it still needs to go to through copy editing, graphic design, and lettering. What? Like you're so rich you can afford all these things and matzo-ball soup. Eeeesh, we're getting there. However, this should give you a strong idea of what the finished project will look like!
You've reached the end of our spiel, Mazel Tov! Now comes the part where we ask you to look deep inside your heart, and also inside your wallet. If you have a few shekels to spare and want to support independent Canadian publishing, good storytelling, and the spirit of wanderlust we would appreciate any assistance you can offer, if money is tight... no sweat we know the feeling.

Risks and challenges
Twitter is replacing the novel as the engine of dreaming for our generation. I believe it's worthwhile to take risks on things that are true and beautiful.
But to show you we're taking things seriously:
-We've set up a publishing company, "Dirty Water Comics" to press the completed graphic novel.
-We're working with Friesens Corporation to print the Graphic Novels, they're Manitoba based and Canada's largest publisher of hardcover books. If that doesn't convince you they printed the Canadian run of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire so you know they're legit.
-We've contracted a professional editing and graphic design team to help bring this project home
-Although traditional publishing is down, graphic novel publishing is on the rise. It's actually the only growing sector of print based media.
-The real challenge now is to gather enough financial support to continue the series. By supporting part one of Canoe Boys, you're enabling the creative team to have the time and resources to complete the series, and launch future projects through Dirty Water Comics.
