The Dirty Birds are raising money to film our first ever music video, for the song "Valentine's Day." Just like we did with our self-released debut album, How the Cause Became the Cure, our goal is to do this once and do it right. Translation: we want to make a completely professional video, the kind that would look at home on TV.
But videos are expensive, especially good ones, and we’re going to need some help. We’re confident that with the help of our supportive fans, friends and family, we'll be able to reach our goal. The money that we raise here on Kickstarter will go toward renting a nice digital camera, paying for insurance, lights, permits, etc.
"Valentine's Day" is the lead single from the Dirty Birds' first album. On the surface, it's a simple pop-rock song with a strong hook and universal lyrics name-dropping a Hallmark holiday. But it’s also a candid, bleak portrayal of the end of a relationship, and that’s what we intend to put on the screen. By adding a layer of narrative drama, and filming the band’s live performance, the video will bring out the song’s emotional punch and capture the cathartic energy of the recording. We’re not going to give away too much of the video’s concept, but it will feature a post-breakup love triangle at a party, with the Dirty Birds as the house band. (Yes, we will need extras…)
The video will be directed by Jason Saltiel, brother of the Dirty Birds' lead singer Jared Saltiel. Jason is a filmmaker, screenwriter and musician living in New York City. The video will be produced by Kristen Konvitz, who is also producing the feature adaptation of Lauren Wolkstein’s 2009 short film “Cigarette Candy,” which won the South by Southwest jury prize.
We’ve come up with some fun perks for those who support the project. Thank you all for your help!
