About this project

I am creating a four legged (Quadruped) robot I call “NineFour” (Nine degrees of freedom with four legs).

When complete, it will navigate multiple terrains, and detect its proximity to an object. In addition, a pan/tilt webcam is mounted on the front, which will allow the operator to see his/her surroundings.

Control will be done through a Wi-Fi connection and controlled by a web interface for remote (off-site) control, and eventually an Iphone application.

I will update this page with my progress until I setup an official site.

PROJECT GOALS:

I will document every step of the design, assembly, and programming. I will then create a website dedicated to this project where I will post all of this information (including code). Visitors will be able to use, copy, modify or add to my design. This will be completely free and open to help others achieve their robotic dreams. I will also create a design/construction pamphet that you can print out!

After building and testing, I would like to create a website interface where visitors to the site will be able to access my working NineFour robot and control it as they please. They will be able to see the sensor readings, control its movements, and see what the robot sees.

Funding for this project will be applied to the purchase of:
servo motors
hardware
batteries
laser cutting
paint
documentation supplies/printing
website domain & hosting
and the list goes on and on!

Any funding received above the goal amount will be put to purchasing upgraded (stronger/faster) servo motors and longer lasting batteries.

The most exciting aspect that I will begin incorporating is an on-board 3D laser scanning setup. This will allow the NineFour to scan an object and create a digital 3D model! The possibilities are endless as far as applications for this!
