Feeding Fingers: The Occupant
"I think that it is time for the group to expand its musical vocabulary," says Feeding Fingers frontman, Justin Curfman. "And I am in the perfect location to make that happen."
Within a span of six years, Feeding Fingers has released three critically-acclaimed, full-length albums, toured the USA and Europe, performed twice on NPR (National Public Radio) and have managed to cultivate a dedicated audience of listeners that have made these things (and more) possible without the support of a major record label.
And now, with your help, Feeding Fingers is preparing to record their fourth album, The Occupant, in Salzburg, Austria.
"With The Occupant, I want the band to step a bit outside of the usual trappings that you might expect to hear on a Feeding Fingers album," Curfman says. "I would like the opportunity to include a new barrage of sonic textures for the group by incorporating a living, breathing, Austrian string quartet or a boys' choir, for example. I want to explore new arrangement possibilities for the group as well - stepping a bit outside of the usual drums, bass, guitar, keyboard and voice - verse, chorus, verse, chorus, etc. - that you've surely come to expect from us, while at the same time improving and expanding upon what Feeding Fingers does best."
To make The Occupant possible, Feeding Fingers needs your support now more than ever before.
It's no secret that the creation of original music without the luxury of a heavy combination of corporate financing, market research teams and advertising sponsorships has become, more or less, a profitless venture - truly a labor of love. The days of the "big record deal" are long, long gone. We are in an era of music (and art in general for that matter) where the sustainability, output and development of an artist hinges entirely upon the patronage of his / her listeners. We need your patronage.
Your pledges will go directly toward things like:
- Equipment Rentals, Upgrades & Replacement (where necessary)
- Rehearsal Space and Studio Rentals
- Session Time with Violinists, Cellists, Pianists & Others
- Mixing / Mastering
- Album Pressing, Promotion & Distribution
Along with all of the other usual expenses along the way. And to give our supporters complete transparency, Justin will be creating a production blog of The Occupant at FeedingFingers.com with videos, music, photos and text updated regularly - it will be an ongoing documentary of the making of The Occupant that Justin will be sharing with our supporters. You will see the album come together from Salzburg.
Take a look at the incentives listed to your right and decide on your donation level. There is something there for everyone at every dollar amount, including CDs, t-shirts, downloads, exclusive content, artwork, books, original lyric sheets like this one:
AND EVEN YOUR OWN, PRIVATE, FEEDING FINGERS SHOW ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. OR SPEND A WEEKEND IN SALZBURG WITH JUSTIN AS YOUR TOUR GUIDE!
We realize (just as well as you do) that our incredibly modest goal of $1,000 listed here wouldn't even begin to touch upon most of the expenses listed above to cover the production of a quality, full-length album. Even a shoestring budget of $10,000 would yield little more than acceptable results for the type of album that Justin is planning to produce here. That is why we are leaving the funding of "The Occupant" up to you. Help us make for you the best Feeding Fingers album possible. Any amount over our goal will only go toward making this album the best Feeding Fingers album possible. You will only make the album sound better, look better, feel better and help spread it around to a larger audience that will keep Feeding Fingers going on into the future. Listener patronage is the future (and present) of music and the arts. You are now more important than ever.
