This project aims is to create a book filled with the tiny adventures of Ray the cat and his two best friends, Mo and Spider. Not to mention the bewildered and vaguely familiar human who is called upon to assist in their antics.
It's a world not too far from ours but one we have stepped away from in the hurly-burly of everyday life.
This book will bring us back to the amazement we felt as children, discovering things for the first time or seeing the hidden potential in ordinary, every-day objects.
It's a daily hobby that has taken on a life of its own.
My intention is to get these illustrations into print and then attempt to reach as wide an audience as possible through on-line sales and with a lot of face to face sales-pitches in as many book stores as possible.
But this is the edition that matters and without you it will remain a mere pipe-dream.
Taking the first step into the printed arena is only part of what is possible for our fuzzy friends but this is how we wish to start the journey. To this end, I request your financial support which will enable me to redesign existing illustrations and add a permanent style and polish to the whole endeavour in order to impress potential buyers and the aforementioned book stores.
With your help our three friends can hopefully sit on the shelves in the high-street and take their tiny tales beyond the small circle of people who know me personally or by reputation.
There are endless stories waiting around every corner now and for potentially other subsequent editions.
Your pledge can put this book on your shelf at home or in the hands of adults and children around the world.
Please let our friends follow the road to reality. It will tread a gentle path through life, filled with an innocent curiosity of all the things we big people take for granted.
Our tiny trio are taking their first steps from the realms of imagination onto the printed page, but they need your help. Once there, who knows what the world will hold.
It's a scary world, a big world but it's the Little Things in Life that should be treasured.
Help me bring them to life.
Let them dream for all of us.
The book will be 19cm x 19cm in size, be hardback, in full colour and printed to the highest quality.
There will be more and more perks added to the campaign once it starts going. The initial perks will be signed books, posters etc.
My book is going to be published by Fusion Retro Books who have already had success on Kickstarter raising funds to produce a book on 'The History of Ocean Software Ltd' - a company I worked at for many years (and I appear in the book) and a trilogy of books on the ZX Spectrum. You can check out their site and purchase their books at www.fusionretrobooks.com.
Risks and challenges
The risks that lie ahead are simply the physical challenges involved in updating, polishing and redesigning existing illustrations and then creating a wealth of new images to complete this first edition.
Obviously I must create many more images than is required to complete this book in order to have a choice over what makes the cut and what doesn't.
This comes down to a simple case of man-management and sheer hard work, but this is something I cannot put onto anyone else and therefore my only option is to step up and do what needs to be done.
My qualifications for achieving this goal is simply the fact that as a games artist I have always drawn and doodled and it is from these doodlings that Ray, Mo and friends have arisen.
Getting the ideas is the hardest part, avoiding clichés and sticking to my vision of an innocent, gentle set of tales rather than heading into established territory set out by the famous "funny strips" with satire and social commentary.
Other than that I really cannot comment as this is totally new to me.
Completing my first book will of course be a challenge, but one I feel more than qualified to address.
