Day 6th - the speed is growing!

To ALL backers of SKYJACKER:

First of all, we wanted to express our utmost gratitude for all of you who became a BACKER of SKYJACKER!!!

Your generous pledges advanced our project by 4% towards our goal to get the project funded and deliver the amazing gaming experience to YOU. It is 4% in 6 days!!!

Most importantly, we know now that we were able in just five days to attract your interest in this project. There are almost 200 of your and the number keeps going up towards our mutual goal of getting funded!

WE are super excited about the current progress and understand that there is a lot of work ahead that needs to be done to get to the finish line and deliver on our promise.

We received several requests and comments from you that it would be beneficial to release a short segment of the game demo, which will allow potential backers to engage the awesome gaming experience, and most importantly YOU, our backers become even more comfortable with the choice you made for backing our project. The team has been working on creating the appropriate set of demo data that will allow you to truly understand the progress we have made over the last six years. We are delighted to let you know that you can try it at the following links:

PAY YOUR ATTENTION: Please be sure the demo fits your technical requirements, learn the README! before to start downloading the demo. This demo is PC/Windows only! It is compatible to Windows XP, Windows 7 (both 32/64 bit systems).

For US located recipients:

For Western Europe:

Torrent link

For Eastern European backers - you can download the demo here

RapidShare link:

We will renew the list of links as soon as our volunteers will upload the demo to their hosts.

SEE IT, PLAY IT, LET US KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS here in the project's forum or by sending a message directly to us.

WARNING! It was a very spontaneous decision to disclose the demo to public! Yesterday we replaced a lot of our inner working data from there, and now the demo can crash sometimes. Don't claim us too much, it's just a working demo version, but not the final game! No doubt, the final game will be cleaned out and tested 100 times. Actually, we hope that most of you guys will to participate in the game testing stage in the future.

Special comment concerning voices - this is working version, so all voices were recorded by us for us. We hope to get funded and then to hire good voice artists to record perfect voices.

Over the next four days we will release the videos that will introduce team members behind this project, as we understand that lack of personal care and attention might have put few potential backers on the fence. We would love to meet with every single one of you personally and answer your questions, or just to get to know you better. We hope that the videos that will be released will give you a good sense of our passion for making SKYJACKER a huge success, while delivering an ultimate gaming experience to YOU.

Currently we added small section there in the main project description area to reveal our professional background. You can find it right under REWARDS section, it's name is WHO WE ARE, TO PROMISE SUCH GOOD THINGS?

WARNING! Second image in that block has a big size. You CAN open it in new tab of your browser and watch details. Enjoy!

We have been getting a lot of comments, encouragements, questions and suggestions. We really appreciate all of your feedback, as well as your enthusiasm! Thank you so much for spending your time and coaching us on how to achieve together! We are listening to you, and will continue our quest to success TOGETHER!

We are getting a lot of questions, some people say: "Would you consider adding a tier between $60 and $100 that includes the special edition but not the T-shirt/poster? I would've backed higher for that, and may yet back higher, but I myself have little interest in the physical good but high interest in the game additions".

We almost finished a list of new rewards here and we are planning to update REWARDS section in the upcoming few hours.

We got proposal from our partners a couple of days ago. They are smartphone developers, who makes games about the weaponry disassembling. We helped them a year before, providing our inner 3D models of real guns and riffles, and now they prepare a small gift for all our funs - iPhone/iPad/Android Apps, where you can assemble/disassemble one of our spaceship :)) We hope to get it done, approved and available in AppStore/Google Play before the end of May.

Our BACKERS: WE would never ask you to increase your current pledge, as we understand that everyone has a budget, and the fact that you already put a pledge and reading our update is a huge deal for us, as we feel that we are on a verge of creating a unique community here. Speaking of community, the economics of crowdsourcing is working in mysterious ways, where some projects get overfunded and some projects got to be under-funded. There is no predictability in this model, because there is no way to put an economic measurement on entrepreneur’s PASSION that creates an intrinsic value associated with a product that people LOVE.

There are many examples of companies going from a “garage” startup to an iconic BRAND.  The difference between the iconic brands and companies “want to be iconic” is that PASSION that charges every member of the team to do heroic work every day which creates the intrinsic value in power of PASSION. The biggest differentiator is that an iconic company has maniacal focus on the product, making sure to pay attention to every small detail in order to make it BEAUTIFUL.

While we cannot claim to be an iconic company (yet J) WE are going to make our pledge to you that we will not rest until we deliver the most amazing gaming experience after SKYJACKER game will be released. Our PASSION, our experience, our dedication to you and the rest of the fans of SpaceSim will ignite and empower us to reach the ultimate success – YOUR SATISFACTION.

We believe that if YOU could continue spreading the word about us, and each of you will get 3-5 enthusiasts that would be compelled to become our backers, our funding goal will be easily achieved. Thank you so much for all your help and support in making this project a reality!

Interesting. Somehow I never got that setup screen. Everything installed OK (even though I did cancel ffdshow and directx - already had them), then the game just tried to launch but failed with that initial PhysX dll error. Perhaps that was the Setup trying to launch... anyway, it works now, but thanks for the assistance... :)

@ Porcupine let me answer fro him - we helped him to fix problem and to launch our demo. He had two issues:
      1) He didn't launch the game as an Administrator
      2) He had strangely broken video driver.

After installation of the new driver and launching as an Administrator he succeed to play the game (around 30 hours ago)

Concerning correction of that config file, what you did manually - you could do it easier, if you would ever read our ReadMe first ;)) I guess, you remember, that you got launched strange setup panel apps right after installation? It it Setup.exe file panel, which let you change all those settings, including screen resolution. System works that way to propose you ONLY resolutions, which your card supports. When you select one and then press 'Apply' the apps generates new config.cfg file with all your new settings there. Enjoy!

@Jonathan Kelley: Do you still get that error? I have a very similar setup to yours (AMD Phenom II X4 quad core, ATI HD6770, WinXP SP2) and of course I got the same PhysX error message. However, I got the game running in the end. The things I did (not sure which helped with what):
      - Restart the computer after the installation
      - Noticed that the PhysX engine I already had before installing the demo seemed not quite updated properly (the control panel icon for PhysX that I had before was now gone); however, the installer of the demo did make an automatic system restore point before installing, which I restored; the control panel icon reappeared after that, I got my old PhysX version back. This did of course probably undo installation of all the other components of the game (directx, ffdshow, VC redistributable, etc.) but I think I had those too already installed before anyway, so I guess it did not matter.
      - Now the game was trying to start, but was hanging with a white screen and a DirectDraw-related error message behind it. However I accidentally found the config file in the game's folder, and in it there were settings for horizontal and vertical screen resolution - set to 1080 apparently. Knowing my monitor might have problems switching to such a resolution (I'm normally running at 1024x768) I changed the two values to "1024.00" and "768.00", saved the file, and the game started up just fine...

@ Jonathan Kelley - Excuse me for delay - too busy with all comments here today.
Concerning your issue - the most probably it is PhysX unfriendly issue in ATI card environment. Furthermore, I found opinion, NVIDIA (owner of PhysX) behaves unfriendly to AMD based systems as well. I found some forum concerning similar issue there on Steam and here It's quite old , 2009, but anyway I guess it's still actual, cause we got same issue with another backer. In his case we succeed to help him to launch and to play the demo. So there is a hope you will get chance too :)
Anyway, I need to consult with programmers tomorrow (it's a deep night here in Kiev this time), so let's better continue our conversation via e-mail. Please use this mail form, and I will answer you directly then

@ Jonathan Kelley - No matter is Windows 32bit or 64bit. Personally me use 64bit, and all those videos were captured at 64bit system.

Btw, can tell you already now - it may not work if you have integrated IntelHD video card or something similar - it is used in many laptops models.

Could you please reveal you system parameters (i.e. CPU, amount of RAM, model of video card, amount of video RAM) to let me understand possible reason?

    9. Jonathan Kelley on May 8, 2012

Hmmm, been really eager to try this demo, but for some reason no matter how many times I reinstall it, and say yes to everything. It can't find the PhysX dll, or I just get a white screen saying Runtime Assertation Failure.

does it matter whether I'm running on 64bit Windows or 32bit Windows?

Or am I just missing something else obvious?

Great update! Can't wait to try out the demo for myself later today, and there is no greater amunition for a kickstarter project than a playable build. Thumbs up! :-)

Sweet, I will give that a shot! Once again, I had fun with the demo, it left me wanting more, and that's what a demo is supposed to do. :) I can say that I'm proud to be a backer of this.

    16. DIGITILUS 4-time creator on May 6, 2012

@ Gregory: Thank you for your words.
Here are few hints to let you correct demo to minimize crashes:
      - Disable ‘postprocessing’ (Setup.exe)
      - Use lower screen resolution (Setup.exe)
      - Use lower texture resolution (Setup.exe)
      - Go to installed directory, find file ‘config.cfg’, open with Notepad, find the line ‘Game.Asteroids = 2.00;’ Change to 3, 4, 5 or higher. The meaning: =1 means every first asteroid will be loaded (so 100% asteroids will be loaded into the game level), =2 means every 2nd asteroid will be loaded (so 50% will be available). The bigger is a number, the less asteroids will be there in the game level, what will improve CPU usage.
All these operations will let you play demo if you have not powerful computer with or laptop. The I succeed to launch and to play this demo on Dell XPS1330 laptop, which is not powerful device.

I've got to say, I like what I saw of the demo so far. It crashed to desktop once on me so far, just on completion of the first mission, and I had some trouble understanding the voice acting in the second mission. However, I believe getting this demo out there to give us a taste of the gameplay is a great idea. I think the final product is shaping up to be fantastic!

@Fuzzy: Currently not! This demo has been made on a base of our own game engine technology, which is PC only compatible. The final version of the game will be realized on Unity, which supports both PC and Mac. Currently we port the game to Unity, so be patient - we'll prepare Mac version of the demo in few months.

    20. Fuzzy Puffin on May 6, 2012

Are you going to make a Mac version of the demo?

    21. Akiba on May 6, 2012

Just a heads up for anyone download off the mirror, the line is completely maxed out, so please be patient or try one of the other mirrors if you are experiencing continuously low speeds
