Update #2

THE BACKER ENRICHMENT CENTER

It's been a full week since we re-launched Skyjacker, and not only have we already reached 20% of our goal, we've blown right past our old headcount - we broke a full 1,000 backers yesterday.  Welcome aboard!  We can't thank you enough, every one of you, for helping us blast off with such grace and strength.  But we'll try.

MULTIMEDIA FOR ALL

You request and we deliver: Digitilus wallpapers for all devices featuring our multicolored mollusc.  Download them all at DIGITILUS

Take, share, remix - go for five stars on Photoshop Hero - and above all enjoy.  Let us know if you need one in a specific resolution or design and we'll make it happen.

We've also heard your reactions to the background music in our front page trailer. Some of you loved it!  Some of you didn't.  We can work with that.  Here’s some Skyjacker music for you to freely stream and download

This is our own Eugene Zhukov's work - he's contributing additional music for the menus, hangar, and other interfaces.

Not for me -  the main theme instead!

This is the work of veteran composer Krzysztof Wierzynkiewicz - he's composing the gameplay music, and this is a taste of what you can expect in the completed game.

STARSHIP DISASSEMBLY FOR ALL

We unveiled our free Starship Disassembly app for WINDOWS and ANDROID a few weeks ago, to give you an in-depth look at how all Skyjacker spaceships are put together (and taken apart). We just got Apple's approval to proudly offer it on iOS and MacOS devices as well!

Designed for both iPhone and iPad, the app features a Yatagooshee cruiser from Skyjacker with all components labelled and removable. It's a good look at the complexity of construction, the detail we're putting into every ship in Skyjacker, and the pieces that go spiraling off when you nail one of these suckers with a heavy weapon.  Please don’t forget to leave feedback on the AppStore - we hope it will be positive and welcome more people to our community!

BOLT-ONS FOR ALL

Now for something completely different.  We learned a hard lesson - don't mess with the reward tiers!  We won't. Instead if you add $25 to a pledge (any pledge) we'll add to your reward. We're calling these extras "bolt-ons" because they add to your rewards, never replace them.

The first $25 bolt-on is a SKYJACKER SHIRT.  This is an extra shirt: one t-shirt of ANY DESIGN, the same designs in the reward tiers.  This was a popular community request that we're happy to fill!

The other $25 bolt-on is entirely new - PORTABLE SKYJACKER.  This is an extra copy of the game: the Complete Edition of Skyjacker on a sleek 8GB USB flash drive. Now you can REALLY take Skyjacker on the road!  It fits in your wallet like a credit card (okay, like six credit cards stacked) and features our iconic spaceship designs in full color on both sides.  The flash drive itself slides free from the card for ease of handling, and back in for safekeeping when you're done.

(This is a mockup - the real thing won’t have those tearing artifacts, we promise.)

*** Note: if you're in for a DVD but you'd rather have the USB, we'll swap even, no charge and no strings attached.

Two shirts, one USB, one Settler edition?  That’s fine!  You can stack these in any combination.   Update your pledge to cover the cost of all the bolt-ons you want, and we'll pull together everyone's shopping lists at the end with the Kickstarter survey.  If you’re adding to a reward tier with no previous swag (including “no reward”) shipping is always free within the US but please add $15 for international.

NEUROBIOLOGY FOR ALL

Ever seen the movie “Pay it Forward”?  It introduced a concept ubiquitous with entrepreneurs today.  We’re big fans - we happily jumped on the  Kicking it Forward program and started kicking with all five legs.  There are so many creative minds in this world, our future can and WILL be better, if we all adhere to this simple concept: paying it forward.

Drifter is well-known for its beautiful, iconic poster art and its promises of a sandbox 100,000 light years wide.  It's also the first 2.5D space game we've ever seen! Developer Colin Walsh (Red Nova) and composer Danny Baranowky (Binding of Isaac, Super Meat Boy, Canabalt) have screenshots and early gameplay video up, and the full DRM-free game drops at $10; that's a small price to pay for an entire galaxy.  Drifter's Kickstarter ends on June 4th - save the date!

Rubicon isn't well-known at all. Joseph "Wick" Perry is a college student majoring in neurobiology and a self-taught game programmer and artist.  Rubicon is going to be released for FREE on completion, not just to backers, but to everyone. The kickstarter itself had a goal of $2000 - just enough to get him through a summer break of intense focus on development.  This is a genuine, untarnished love letter to space games and it's got 18 hours left on the clock!  Please, welcome him!  We need to cultivate good guys like this!

COMING SOON

We're going to be revealing more about the aliens and their galactic fleets. That means new inside knowledge and new videos - all coming soon, very soon. Take a look at THIS!

Stay thirsty my friends for the next SKYJACKER update!

Ah, right. Awesome! I hope there might be some cross-licensing deal with you and Noble Empire Ltd for the software to do this. I seriously would like to be involved, since I am a native (American) English speaker, and I know some people using English as a second language have some.....problems with the idiosyncrasies of the language.

I probably wouldn't help a lick with the coding, art, sound, etc, of the game, though!

    7. 75px.small

Creator Veav on June 9, 2012

@JTD All things are possible. We'd have to come at that afterwards - the USB print run we do is dependent on how much of a final pledge we're working with, how many backers wanted them, how many stocking-stuffers we want for our own purposes, whether or not a disaster in Asia drives up the cost of memory again, etc. We're probably going to do some raffles, contests, giveaways, those coupons, and other stuff we couldn't do per Kickstarter rules; your name would be on top of the list. :)
Disassembler - that's been brought up as a possible stretch goal. The YTG Cruiser disassembler was thrown together as cross-promotion with the gun dudes but I think we'd have to pay them to do more. If we end up doing that then formal localization will be involved yeah. :D

      Creator JTD121 on June 8, 2012

Is it possible, since I was so helpful, you could throw a USB at me for free?

Also, any idea if there will be any more ships in the Starship Disassembler? Or maybe a less 'time limit' type activity for it? Want me to help proofread the info put in there (not 100% grammatically correct, spelling is pretty good)?

    9. 75px.small

Creator Veav on June 8, 2012

@Van $25 sir! Every $25 gets you your choice of bolt-ons - so you can add $25 and get the USB, no shirt necessary. :)

Breaking news: it turns out moving to 8 GB is more like a 10% price increase, so we are formally GO for the change. Eugene'll change the update to reflect this when he gets the chance (and we'll probably mention it next update too, just as an aside).

Captain + 3 more shirts = $175. Or Collector + 3 more shirts = $225. :) But no - that's good intel. Maybe the end solution will be to just... STACK the thing with shirts. Wardrobe Edition! Have to get everyone's opinion and ideas first. :D

Oh, come on! It's been like ONE DAY. :D No, I'm open to suggestions, though we can't take away what was promised to the 250+ crew. That's why I started the question of: everyone near $200 who didn't take it, why not? What would YOU (yes you reading this, not Digitilus LLC, you the backer) like to see at that mark?
Personally I'd like a snowglobe with a YTG cruiser but I suspect I have the minority opinion on that one. :D

    26. Dgtls_web-logo_sqr_03_600x600.small

Creator DIGITILUS on June 3, 2012

as for tier 200 - hehe, we discussed this with Veav. My opinion - x4 won't work, we must propose something really new, he said - it should work So we decided to check it in reality ;))
I guess 0 backers there is an answer. So we need to think what to propose else?

Hi everybody ... Wooohhh ... I slept 12 hours or so ... :)) Even super-man needs time to recharge. Now I'm ready to work 20 hours per day again! Well, answering your questions:
@ Gavin: it's almost done. We even planned to include it in this update, but decided to wait a little to polish - I found we lost vector version of the logo, what is necessary for hi res pictures, so we should create it again. Now it's done, so just be patient. It will be available for all backers soon.

@ Vanish - you can use this music, I let you :)) The only request - please mention about the source of the music somewhere there in your blog.

@Digitilus Any chance of having the SkyJacker picture (from the video place holder) as a wallpaper? PLeeeeeeeaaaassseeee :D

    30. 75px.small

Creator Veav on June 2, 2012

@Gavin It's already in! Take a look at the tier - we snuck it in a few hours back. It's probably the only time we'll make a material change to the sidebar, since nearly all the tiers are locked in by backers now (no complaints on that note!). Wolfpack and above now comes with a four-pack of USB cards preloaded with the game. Probably 8G, but have to wait til monday to confirm the fiddly bits on that.

    36. 75px.small

It is totally gorgeous! Kryzstof is subcontracted for the music (common in the games industry) so to formally CC it might be a little rough, starving artists like to be paid. But if it just shows up in a podcast/AMV with attribution and it's not a show about punching kittens or anything, I suspect no one will mind. :) Eugene will see this when he wakes up and yell at me if I'm wrong!

@Gavin Do you consider the spare USBs to be in your favor - something you can sell off or stuff in a stocking - or do you feel like you want to have all four games spoken for before you pick up the four-pack?

I was looking at the Wolfpack the other day. Was seeing if I could get 3 work friends to part any cash but only 1 showed any interest, so it was only an upgrade to the 2 pack for me only at the moment.

    43. 75px.small

Creator Veav on June 2, 2012

@JT When I first scouted the USB cards I was thinking purely of the minimum that would most likely fit the game, not about added value. I like the idea of going to 8GB for a number of reasons, and it's not going to break the bank. Thanks for suggesting it!

    44. Pcb-design.small

      Creator JTD121 on June 2, 2012

Thanks for the reply! And not a problem if you want to stay with the 4GB USB drives. I was just thinking ahead for extra content, mods, etc.

Also, Thanks for the Starship Disassembler. Not that I can run it currently, being OpenGL, and me having a fight with my shitty old video card (Mobility Radeon X2300) if anyone wants to help! :)

@ Ryan Hamm - about T-Shirts design - we have 4 now. Actually we have around 50 designs here - our artists are crazy creative folks. But this would be unreal to propose so many here. At least, we are trying to make game, while others can print apparel :D

    47. 75px.small

Creator Veav on June 2, 2012

Yeah, when we set it up, we expected more interest in the four-packs than - well, none. :D

I don't collect but why would a collector want 4 USB keys unless all 4 of them had a unique picture on them? If you want a collector to bite on something give them more collectibles, not stuff for 3 of their friends. Also I'm not really sure what a t-shirt of any design would entail. Would it be with any characters or ships from the SkyJacker universe or could I get some random drawing that's got nothing to do with SkyJacker? That particular part of the reward is too open ended.

In fact, we’ll sign everything we can get our hands on; the jewel cases, the poster, even the t-shirt (and those aren’t easy). Of course you’ll still get your downloads, so you can leave the box in mint condition.

WOLFPACK EDITION: As the Collector’s Edition, plus: we’ll hook all your friends up too by giving you FOUR downloads of everything and sending you FOUR Portable Skyjacker USB drives, each preloaded with the Complete Edition game. We’ll set you all up with the title of Privateer on the forum, and for the credits, we’ll thank all four of you by name, under the clan name of your choice and billed proudly above the Captains. Added bonus: we'll send out a second t-shirt of any design!

Plug your website, propose to your girlfriend, throw out your favorite quote, or make us spout memes and in-jokes at everyone who plays!

HARDCOVER EDITION: As the Memepack Edition, plus: the hardcover Skyjacker art book. Yes, we’ll sign it with pride! We’ll wrap it up in a third t-shirt of any design, a total of three, and call you out in the forums and credits as a Broker. Then we'll further acknowledge your financial acumen by putting your name in the game, as the designation of a weapon, part, planet, or ship (we’ll make sure it’s something you like). You’ll be a part of the Skyjacker universe from here on out.

BOSS EDITION: As the Hardcover Edition, plus: our designers will draw YOU, in full space pirate regalia. And then we'll put it on an exclusive jacket of your very own! Materials and exact design to be determined - but it'll be nice. We won’t try to sign this one. While that’s happening we'll attach your name to a character in-game (or leave it as a designation, your choice), and elevate you to the regal position of Boss on our forums and in the credits. Don't worry about the cost of shipping; even if you're outside the US, we'll take care of it. Nothing but the best for the Boss.

EPIC EDITION: As the Boss Edition, plus: we'll put you in the game. We'll animate YOU in 3D as the subject for a CUSTOM PLAYER CHARACTER. This includes your face and proportions, a personal logo, and the highest category of criminal community rating in the game. Only you can play as this character (we'll give you a secret code to activate it) but other players can hire you as an NPC, so they'll get to enjoy it too! You will be known across the skies as a true Hero... or a Villain, your choice.

LEGEND EDITION: As the Epic Edition, plus: with your permission, we'll use your character in our promotional campaigns. You'll be on our posters, in our trailers, and on whatever other media we produce. Your name will, in fact, be Legend. Furthermore we cordially invite you to come hang out with us in Los Angeles, CA, USA. We're from Russia - we know how to party. (Please contact us directly to make personal arrangements before the end of the campaign.)
