Our campaign is over, but we have a message for you!
We're really glad to have connected with so many new players who had never heard about A Horde Too Many before this campaign, and we would love to mark this moment not as an ending, but as the beginning of a community forming around this project. This was the first time we've ever had this kind of international exposure and we would love to stay in touch with you and let you in on the development of our game.
The best way to do that is to offer you a way to talk with us at any time, get updates directly from us on our progress and participate directly in the future of A Horde Too Many.
You can do that by joining us on Discord and becoming an active part of our community!
Read the Updates section to learn more about what happened during this campaign!
And if you have any questions or would like to know more about our project feel free to contact us directly through Discord. See you there!
FINAL WEEK SURPRISE REWARD!
That's right! As a way to thank everyone for their support we've decided that everyone pledging $50 and above will get to BECOME A ZOMBIE roaming our wastelands!
That means you will be able to design your very own brain-loving green skinned friend and have it immortalized in our game. How? Once the campaign ends we will survey your ideas and work with them to bring your undead creations to life within our game's aesthetic!
BE REASONABLE... but not too much!
A Horde Too Many is a Sidescrolling Action RPG set in a Post-Apocalyptic wasteland ravaged by brain-loving Zombies.
The player is charged with the decision-making of an ever expanding group of survivors and must manage their supplies, craft deadly contraptions, upgrade their abilities and build upon a base camp as they explore the harsh new world and forge alliances to face the many dangers of the wastelands.
Including elements of Base Management and Tower Defense, A Horde Too Many stands out with its unique Party-Combat System, charging the player with the direct control of up to 4 fully-customizable characters at once, each with their unique weaponry, play-style and special abilities.
Collect unique survivors and strategically pick your team of apocalypse-hardened characters to fight through the outstanding amount of living dead that are trying to get your brains for a snack.
Keep your base camp safe and develop your defenses while growing a community of bad-asses that you can command into the constant fight for survival. Explore the wastelands in search of supplies, craft new weapons and armor, upgrade your abilities and face the unexpected dangers of the post-apocalyptic world of A Horde Too Many in a combination of Base Management, Tower Defense and Survival RPG elements.
- SURVIVE through the daily challenges of a post-apocalyptic world
- BUILD a safe haven for your expanding group of survivors
- EXPLORE the vast wastelands through nine deadly environments
- PROTECT your base against endless hordes of undead and living threats
- COLLECT dozens of characters with unique weapons, skills and fighting styles
- CRAFT new weapons, armor and contraptions to take on tougher challenges
- UPGRADE your defenses and expand your camp by finding and spending supplies
- CUSTOMIZE your team of bad-asses to fit your playstyle and strategies
- MANAGE your resources and decide who gets to live another day
- GROUP UP and face dangerous missions controlling up to four survivors at once
- TEAM UP with your friends and face the world of A Horde Too Many in Co-op Mode
- CHALLENGE yourself in a time-trial competitive Action Survival Mode
Surviving the wastelands will take more than wits, strength and lots of bullets, although those are sure to help.
In order to outlive the undead and take on the many challenges of this world you will need to forge alliances, secure a home base, increase the number of Survivors at your disposal and provide the ones who choose to join you with all their basic needs, such as water, food, shelter and medical aid.
It is up to you to manage how to spend the supplies you collect, as well as what to build, where to build it and who gets to use it first.
A Survivor's loyalty is only as guaranteed as your best efforts to keep everyone happy, and that will prove a bigger challenge with a community grown too large. Balance is key in the world of A Horde Too Many, as a group spread too thin will likely succumb to the constant threats thrown at your camp, even if everyone dies with their bellies full.
Weapons and armor will play a pivotal role in your chances of survival. Every Survivor is capable of equipping up to 4 different items across 3 different tiers, each item passively affecting a different property such as health, armor, damage, range, attack speed, injury resistance and loyalty.
Weapon slots are particularly important as they will modify both your Survivor's normal attacks and their abilities, infusing them with new damage types, new attack behaviors, different areas of effect and a plethora of utilities designed to slay both living and undead threats.
The world of A Horde Too Many is as filled with threats as it is with strong, interesting or just plain odd characters to discover.
These are the very few you'll briefly get to meet in our spoiler-free demo!
Used to surviving by himself, the Archer takes comfort in the silence of loneliness. No one's ever seen him smile, but that's mostly because he always wears that darn bandana.
They used to call him crazy before the world fell apart. Now they just call him Bomber and wonder how he was able to stockpile so many explosives in a world already blown to bits.
With military training and the firepower to put it to good use, the Sniper is the perfect problem-fixer before the problem gets close enough to be one.
A firefighter is taught you can fight fire with fire. The Flamer figured out you can also fight brain-eating-sons-of-witches with fire, and how to keep a haircut through the apocalypse.
The good thing about an apocalypse is that everyone forgets about the trivial things of the past, like who the hell "Rambo" was. The Gunner was a big action movie enthusiast though.
Athletic, stubborn and a natural leader, you want the Shotgunner on your side when the shells hit the fan. Forget the big green guy, you don't want to get HER angry.
What the Lumberjack lacks in eloquence he makes up for in sheer strength. Often called Big Bear, not 'cus he's cute or fluffy, but because bears are freaking scary and will rip you apart.
Some survived the apocalypse, others thrived in the chaos at the cost of their humanity.
These are some of the factions you will encounter in the wastelands of A Horde Too Many!
The distinct visuals of A Horde Too Many were achieved with a combination of 2D Character Design and contrasting three-dimensional backgrounds.
We made use of advanced 3D Modeling, Photography and Photogrammetry techniques to build our scenery and enhanced our levels by pre-rendering the environments with a tilt-shifted aesthetic, giving our players the impression that the characters of A Horde Too Many are acting on a post-apocalyptic miniature maquette setting.
We wanted to give something back to the community, and not just months away from now. Horde Tactics was the answer!
Crowdfunding is a magical way to turn the impossible into possible through the power of community-building and mutual trust. That said, we weren't fond of the fact that in most cases it had to be the community to take a leap of faith towards the success of a project. Everyone understands why it has to work that way for most cases, but we decided to put our heads together and question ourselves if we really had to fit in "most cases".
Short answer? Nope!
While we can't finish our big project in two months, we took our own leap of faith and invested our time and money to create a complete tabletop adaptation based in the world, lore and mechanics of A Horde Too Many and we made it a full featured collectible card game as an exclusive Kickstarter reward!
But it wasn't enough! We knew we could get our cards and boxes printed and delivered soon after our campaign was over, but we didn't want to settle for "soon after", so we rolled up our sleeves once more and also turned it into a full featured DIGITAL collectible card game that you can play online from the second our campaign goes live!
Wondering how to play? We've got you covered!
Horde Tactics Online has a tutorial waiting for you as soon as you enter the game, but if you'd rather watch real people play the tabletop game we've already convinced an inconspicuous pair of developers to let us record their match.
Watch it below!
While the Online game is limited to 2 players, the physical game box includes 125 cards and supports up to 4 players in an exclusive Boss Fight game mode! More on that on our campaign updates very soon!
The higher the floor, the better the loot.
See something you REALLY like on the list? We'd love to hear about it! Don't see what you'd REALLY like on the list? Let us know!
While we already have big plans for the world of A Horde Too Many, we need your help to bridge our ideas to our reality.
Game development is a lengthy, costly task, one that we are ready to pursue to the limits of our abilities, both physically and financially - but we can't do it without the support of a community that shares the same love for our green-skinned brain-eating apocalypse-causing friends!
Enter the Community Goals!
A Horde Too Many is already planned to be available in English and Portuguese on release. However, we will gladly run the extra mile and get the game translated to any language as long as we get a minimum of 50 backers from that particular country or wishlisting that particular language, so if you really want your language to be included in our localisation we recommend sharing our campaign with friends and family who could share the same wish!
If our campaign is successful, a survey will be sent out to all our backers so you can let us know what languages you'd like to see included in the game on release.
That's not all! The graphic above will be updated on a daily basis according to the progress our community makes in sharing the word about A Horde Too Many!
Why share the word?
If we fill our Community Goals by the time our campaign ends we'll proudly reward everyone who pledged as much or higher than The Scavenger tier with an extra steam key for the game! That's everyone who pledged at least $14!

A Horde Too Many will be released on Windows, MacOS and Linux initially and will be available on Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch if we reach the respective stretch goal.
We are planning to release A Horde Too Many in three different stages, with three different goals in mind.
The first stage will be our Early Access release this September on Steam and that will be the our ground-setting opportunity to get the community deeply involved in the development of the game. The feedback we collect during this stage will be critical to ensure we're driving our passion in the right direction and this is the time to make the biggest changes and experiment with our core mechanics.
The second stage will be this December, marking the official commercial release of the game with the core experience of A Horde Too Many.
The third and final stage will depend on how much support our campaign gets, as this is the stage at which we release the content patch that includes all the stretch goals achieved by our community, as well as all the console ports!
Already a backer but you'd like something extra?
No worries, it's easy!
Here's how to add an extra reward to your pledge:
- Press "Manage Your Pledge" on the very top of this page.
- Increase the value of your pledge by the amount necessary to claim the add-on(s).
- Don't forget to add the shipping costs!
- Save your pledge. Don't change the tier that you originally pledged at!
- Once the campaign is over you will receive a survey asking what add-ons you want!
Crowdfunding is an amazing way to connect passionate, creative people to a community that shares that same passion for a common goal.
It turns the impossible to possible through that connection and there's simply no better way to make ends meet between what is a very real financial cost and what an audience really wants from a product, be it a recipe book, a cool gadget or a video-game.
Game Development is about creating experiences, and experiences are nothing if not... well, experienced! We want to bring our project to life, but we want to do it in a way that involves as many hands on deck as possible when it comes to that very experience, and Kickstarter is simply the best platform to share this interaction with you, the player.
What do we need funding for?
Risks and challenges
Game development is a monumental task all by itself. Bringing a project like this to life has demanded our upmost dedication at every step of the way we've already walked, and the path ahead is full of hurdles and enormous challenges for a small indie game development studio such as ours.
Lucky for us, overcoming challenges is the definition of our job! It justifies our drive as we're guided by our experience as software developers since 2014, running our own company for over a year and fueled by our passion for gaming and digital interaction.
We cannot promise there won't be any obstacles to the development of A Horde Too Many, but we can and do promise that we will work day and night to overcome whatever bump we find in the road to release, as do we commit to complete transparency about our work, our project and the fulfillment of our promises.
In short (and in Zombie Apocalypse terms) we've planned and practiced for every scenario but we promise to tell you if we get bit.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
