You want it. You got it.
One thing that we've heard from you guys loud and clear is that you want dinosaur kills in the game (when the Player dies). This feature ranks near the tip top of most requested features by Carnivores fans. So your wish is our wish is our command. Below is an in progress play blast animation of a T-Rex getting his revenge on a Hunter.
The next thing we did was take these animations and put them in the actual PC game. Obviously there is some tuning, re-positioning and polish that still needs to be done but here is the T-Rex kill in the PC Game with sound.
These death sequences will occur with all the dinosaurs in the game but they are still a work in progress (we just wanted to show you what we have).
We know our Kickstarter Campaign isn't doing so well and we know the odds of making our goal are against us... but if you like what you see here please help us spread the word! Tell your friends, post this on Facebook, Tweet it out! We still have a week left to try and make this happen!

Some cool tips and tactics for hunting the really big game!
We'd like to introduce you to two of our key team members... Yaroslav Kravchenko - Designer and Creator of Carnivores
Yaroslav is a gifted designer and also an accomplished writer and artist. He is the original creator and designer of the Carnivores series and we’re honored to have him working on the PC edition of the game. Artem Kuryavchenko - Lead Programmer
Artem is a talented programmer and has been with the Carnivores brand since the very beginning. Artem and Yaroslav are back working together to bring this game back to its rightful home on the PC.
Carnivores is a first person shooting (FPS) game where you hunt the largest and most dangerous creatures to ever exist -- DINOSAURS! The game was originally released for the PC back in 1998 to great reviews and a loyal fan following. Since then it has made appearances on PSP, Mobile Systems and PlayStation 3. We want to bring back Carnivores: Reborn (after sixteen years) to its rightful home on the PC. We've teamed up with the games original designer and creator, Yaroslav Kravchenko and have been working hard on the game. Carnivores: Reborn will feature elements and dinosaurs that made the first games so popular as well as some new features. How much additional content will be created will be determined by this Kickstarter Campaign. The PC game will have gamepad support and will be made available through Steam as well as DRM-Free digital distribution channels.
The game will have a minimum of 3 different islands to explore, each with their own unique environments, and conditions (day, dusk and fog), as well as additional weather conditions. Each island is about 4 square kilometers in size and currently, we have a variety of dinosaurs which can be hunted. The Player, taking on the role of a DinoHunt Corporation customer, will need to purchase a hunting license, pack up their gear, choose an environment and embark on the adventure of a lifetime!
The game is scheduled to be released Q1 2015.
In the distant future, a science vessel, FMM UV, was looking for new planets to colonize. They discovered a strange planet with remarkably similar conditions to earth. This new planet, named FMM UV-32, almost immediately triggered plans for colonization. But these plans were canceled when it was discovered that the Earth-like planet was not yet past its Jurassic stage, and due to the carnivorous dinosaurs roaming this world, it was far too dangerous for proper colonization. Nonetheless, news of this prehistoric planet spread, and an Earth corporation, now known as DinoHunt Inc, purchased the planet as its property. DinoHunt Inc. allowed for a unique hunting experience, in which wealthy customers could hunt living dinosaurs for a price. You are one of these hunters and will travel to a world lost in time where you will hunt for the largest and most ferocious animals in existence.
Realistic Hunting Simulation
Carnivores is an authentic hunting simulation where you track and stalk your prey. Careful and thoughtful consideration must be taken during the hunt; to survive you'll need to know your preys temperament and mannerisms, and just like in real hunting, you need to be aware of your surroundings (you don't want to be caught downwind of a T-Rex or you'll end up being lunch).
Huge 3D Free-Roaming Open World
Visit huge, beautifully rendered and realistic 3D environments, each with their own unique Eco systems. There are pristine beaches, dense jungles, pine forests, muddy marshes, rocky plains and deserts to explore. Environments can be used to increase the odds of a successful hunt. Players can follow trails and track animal footprints. Awareness of wind direction is important since some dinosaurs can smell you. Using stealth and land elevation will give you a sound advantage over some of the more viscous dinosaurs.
Diversity of Dinosaurs to Hunt
There is a wide variety of different dinosaurs to hunt each with unique behaviors and intelligence. Currently we are planning on having 9-12 different dinosaurs but that number can grow based on pledge amounts. Each dinosaur will require slightly different hunting tactics.
Weapons and Equipment
Choose between a high caliber rifle, a sniper rifle, a silent crossbow or tranquilizer gun, which puts your prey to sleep instead of killing it. You can also carry sidearms for emergency protection. Some of your equipment includes a handheld Gadget, which includes radar and GPS satellite positioning to make tracking the beasts easier, Cover Scent which masks your smell and numerous other goodies, which will prove indispensable for your hunting adventure.
Carnivore A.I.
Every dinosaur in Carnivores has realistic, advanced AI logic, so from species to species each will react differently to you. Some dinosaurs will flee if they see you, while others will become enraged and attack. If an animal is wounded they become unpredictable so be sure to make your shot count. During your adventure you'll experience everything from "pea-brained" dummies to cunning dinosaurs, with heightened senses of sight, hearing and smell. So be careful and stalk your prey intelligently otherwise they might end up tracking and hunting you.
Trophy Room
After a successful hunt, the downed animal is taken to your Trophy Room, which has all the creatures you have ever bagged. When you kill a creature you already have in the Trophy Room, only the biggest one is kept. You can send an invite to your friends to visit your Trophy Room. There will be different Achievements to celebrate every significant success in a game. Achievements will drive the player to replay certain missions under different conditions, for example "Kill the T-Rex with a crossbow".

Yaroslav Kravchenko / Creative Director & Lead Designer
Yaroslav has over 17 years of professional experience. Not only can this dude design but he’s also an accomplished writer and artist, and the original creator and designer of the Carnivores series. Yaroslav Kravchenko is back with the Carnivores team to make this title the best of them all. Game projects Yaroslav has worked on include: Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason (aka Anabiosis), Vivesector, Chasm the Rift and of course, Carnivores and Carnivores 2.
Artem Kuryavchenko / Lead Programmer
Artem has over 15 years’ experience working on a variety of different games including, Unbound Saga, Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason and Vivesector. Artem has also been with the original Carnivores brand from the beginning, coding for Carnivores, Carnivores 2 and Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter.
Konstantin Plutenko / Art Director
Konstantin has over a decade of experience working on games as an art director and is a master at creating beautiful environments and realistic creatures. His past work includes: Unbound Saga, Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter and the upcoming Mutant Football League.
Maxim Novikov / Development Director
Maxim has been in the industry for 19 years and is a top notch technical guru having worked on numerous blockbuster titles including: Need for Speed: Pro-street, FIFA Street 2, SSX on Tour, CrimeCraft: Bleedout and the original Carnivores. Maxim is experienced in leading teams, development strategies, client server architecture, console and mobile platforms.
Michael Mendheim / Producer
Michael has worked as an Executive Producer and Creative Director in the video game industry for over twenty years. Some of his projects include the #1 hit, Mutant League Football, the Army Men series, Battletanx, Tazmania, Def Jam: Icon, Robocalypse and CrimeCraft: Bleedout. Michael is the creator / writer for the award winning graphic novel series, The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse published by Titan Comics and is the co-founder of Digital Dreams Entertainment LLC.
Game development is always challenging and unpredictable, filled with delays and unexpected costs. However this project is taking an existing game, which we've already developed and spending time to make it even better by adding new assets, improved AI and more dinosaurs and then porting everything to PC. While this is still a large mountain to climb we feel confident we can climb it because we've done it before.
Key members of our development team also worked on the Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter for the Playstation Network. They are all experienced with a deep understanding of the games code base and the process for asset creation. While we are not doing a straight port, both games will share assets which have already been created. For new asset creation, we know exactly how long it takes to create, add and polish new dinosaurs, weapons and environments so we will develop within a manageable scope.
In the event we find a feature slipping and our schedule in jeopardy we can cut the feature and release it later in an update. It's for these reasons that we move forward with confidence that we can deliver the project in Q1 2015.
Learn about accountability on KickstarterWe are definitely porting game assets from the PlayStation version of the game to make this game. Obviously, there are things we need to do to ship and things we would like to do. Backers will determine how many new elements and dinosaurs we can add to the game based on their pledges and amount of money being funded. The development team has been working on this project since April and here are some of the revisions and improvements we've already made to the game.
What has been implemented or will be regardless of success on Kickstarter:
- The game is now stable and playable on PC:
- Control schemes - controller pad to keyboard and mouse are all implemented.
- We've improved overall visual quality of environments (mostly done).
- Improved Dinosaur Behavior (more natural movement, smarter A.I.).
- Steam integration – Achievements and Leaderboards (mostly done).
- Greater sense of danger: Improved Player deaths.
- Sound has been completely overhauled and greatly improved.
- Game economics. Less grinding more fun.
What will be implemented If 25K Kickstarter funding is reached:
- Deeper gameplay.
- Weapon Upgrade system.
- Trophy Room enhancements (Wall of Fame, DinoHunt board of Directors, etc).
- Greater sense of danger: Player has to be evacuated by “retriever". If killed all trophies
are lost.
- Tutorial mode.
- Revised gameplay based on new sensor types: Acoustic, Seismic and Satellite.
- More equipment: like silent boots, Marker bullets and more.
- Equipment upgrades.
- Separate compass with sensors indication.
- Full screen map with environment landmark.
- More dinosaur variations – Mutated rare dinosaurs.
- More tuning and polish
- More game testing and stability.
- And more…
These are the design team goals but we want to encourage Backers and Carnivores fans to tell us what they want. Nothing here is written in stone and we can adjust based on feedback from you.
Stretch Goals – all stretch goals will be decided by Carnivore Backers. You guys will work with us on weapons, new dinosaur types and play modes. Our backers will get to set the games direction:
- $30k: New weapon.
- $40K: One new dinosaur type.
- $50K: One new dinosaur type.
- $60K: New play mode.
- $75K: New Environment
- $85k: Hunting Campaign (missions) mode.
- $110K: Marine creatures (Underwater experience)
Right now we are focused exclusively on PC and making that the best game possible. If that game is successful, we will definitely bring it over to other systems including the mac.
We are a developer called, Digital Dreams Entertainment, LLC http://www.digitaldreamsentertainment.com/ and we licensed the Carnivore engine and assets from Vogster Online (Vogster is the company who developed the PS3 game). We liked their tech and thought it would be cool to make some improvements and bring Carnivores to the PC where we think this game belongs.
To all the frustrated PS3 fans, please understand we are NOT Vogster and have nothing to do with the PS3. Our license entitles us to develop only for the PC, which we are doing. We hired a couple guys from the original team since they understand the tech better than anyone. We are a small Indy developer without deep pockets. We love the Carnivores brand and wanted to improve upon it, no one expects to make a killing here.
After we release the PC version (providing it does okay) we will try to license the PS3 version from Vogster and update that as well but right now we can only legally develop the PC version. All of our resources have gone into fixing the core issues that fans had with the PS3 version. We would also like to add more content like new dinosaurs and weapons but that will be dependent on a successful Kickstarter campaign
