These new add-on games are compatible with the current Play Tray hardware. Just download the new games and use the appropriate Puzzlets tiles for additional fun and learning!
Software for both add-on games, Abacus Finch (math) and Swatch Out (art), is complete--even submitted to the app stores for all compatible platforms for review purposes--but we need your help to manufacture each game's unique Puzzlets tiles.  Puzzlets has been in Toys R Us and Amazon for about one year, bundled with our first game, Cork the Volcano (coding). We now want to fulfill the promise of a STEAM platform by getting new games into the wild.

Compatible Devices  newer iOS & Android devices, and Mac computers with OSX 10.8+. Not compatible with Windows, Chromebooks, Kindle Fire, or RCA Voyager devicesSee full compatibility list >

Puzzlets is a hardware accessory that connects to your tablet, phone, or Mac computer for playing games that focus on STEAM topics, such as: coding, math, and art.  To play any Puzzlets game, you need the Play Tray and Puzzlets tiles. Each set of Puzzlets tiles is unique to that game.

All Puzzlets games can be enjoyed by one or two children, ages 6+. While Puzzlets emphasizes STEAM skills, it also fosters "soft" or "21st century" skills that are just as important by having children cooperate to conquer each level. If you've never heard of this product before, this is the video for you:

Why did we create a math game? Teachers reported to us that students struggle in math the most with composition of numbers. For example, students often think "7" is composed of "3 + 4" but don't realize there are many combinations, such as "1 + 6" or "5 + 2". Focusing on each number's varied compositions is the basis for Abacus Finch. Each level takes a different number from 1 to 20 and explores:

  • Composition of each number through addition
  • Composition of each number through subtraction
  • Counting by 2's, 3's, and 5's up to 20
  • Light-algebraic thought process

Why did we create an art game? Teachers reported to us that students struggle in art the most with composition of colors. For example, students often think "pink" is composed of random colors or that pink is its own color, instead of pink being a mixture of red and white. Each world in the game takes a introductory color theory and explores all of its properties, displaying the name of each color mixed every time for visual recognition of:

  • Primary colors
  • Secondary colors
  • Tints/Shades
  • Warm/Cool colors

Risks and challenges

We have mitigated many of the risks of manufacturing the Math and Art Puzzlets tiles. Prior to these two new games, we have gone through the experience of manufacturing of the Starter Pack, which included a trip to China, to ensure all kinks were worked out. This included both the bluetooth Play Tray and Cork the Volcano's Programming Puzzlets. The timeline set forth is accurate and allows us the most flexibility if there are any changes needed.

We have also molded the Puzzlets tiles locally in Pittsburgh, PA, from cutting aluminum blocks to popping pieces out to adding stickers to them. This test allowed us to work out many design issues so that we can confidently go into real production.
