Hey friends! Welcome to another day of Deep Madness! We've got more fun stuff coming up for you below. Let's get to it!

First of all, I had a little squeal of delight today upon seeing an unboxing of Deep Madness come across my feed from The Dice Tower! Zee Garcia seemed to like what he's seen so far, and he was properly grossed out by the monsters. =D

-

There's also another video from Beasts of War that came out recently. This one's actually just a short clip from their last Weekender that we were featured in, but, hey, it's a video about us, so here it is. =)

 -

We're also still number one in the initial round of selections for Board Game Geek's Most Anticipated Game of 2019! Thanks so much for helping us with your votes, friends! If you haven't had a chance to vote yet, go to https://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/248375/item/6539254#item6539254 and give Deep Madness a thumbs up!

Also, we're only around $3,000 away from unlocking Evil Jon! If you would still like to submit your ideas for what this card should contain, be sure to go to the update at http://bit.ly/Joncard and put them in the comments! Entries will be cut off when we hit the stretch goal.

PROFUNDUM PICS

Today we'd also like to show you some more images from Profundum! We keep creeping closer to unlocking this box, and, while we're not there yet, we just got some pictures of the box which we couldn't keep to ourselves. There are pictures of the trays by themselves, of the trays loaded with components, and, finally, the picture of the box itself. Enjoy!

SHATTERED SEAS SNIPPET

Next we thought we'd give you the third sample from the novel Shattered Seas. If you haven't read/listened to the first two parts, then you can find Part One at http://bit.ly/ShatteredSeas1 and Part Two at http://bit.ly/ShatteredSeas2. This won't make much sense if you haven't read those.

--

The man howled. Scrambling to his feet, he forced his limbs to obey him as he ran up the beach for the forest in the distance. His mind was frozen by numbing shock, his heart hammering in abject terror. Behind him he still heard the shuffling, scuffling, slithering procession of the damned as they made way for the monstrous horror that followed.

Scruffy brush first greeted the man, followed by tough, squat vegetation that clung stubbornly to the ground. Next came long, waving grasses that whipped against his skin as he raced through them, followed by the first thin stragglers of trees that slowly clustered tighter together to form a sparse forest. The man didn’t pay heed to any of them. He just ran as if all of hell was seething at his heels.

The forest broke and the man saw a towering black skyscraper piercing the heavens in the distance. Clouds seemed to be swirling around its apex, but of course that was impossible. Behind him, the man heard the forest actually break.

The man’s limbs were obeying him better now than they had been, but the burning stitch in his side and the pulsing fire in his lungs told him he wouldn’t be able to keep that pace up for much longer. But then he heard a bellowing screech which shook the ground below him, and he stopped listening to the discomfort in his body.

The road leading up to the skyscraper was made of red cobblestones rather than pavement. Part of the man recognized that as odd (as was the radial roads that all fanned out from the skyscraper like spokes on a wheel), but the rest of him was focused solely on survival.

At last he reached the glass front doors of the building and jerked one open. Tumbling inside, he landed on the hard marble tiles within before turning to look for some way to lock or bar the door. Unfortunately, there was nothing at hand but a second set of glass doors. Pulling one open, he entered a pristine, elegantly decorated lobby.

“Hello?” he called, his voice cracking. “Is anyone here?”

There was no reply.

Hurriedly he turned to better scrutinize the doors. There had to be a way to lock them down. No one would design a skyscraper like this without a way to secure it –

“Who are you, priest?”

Something sharp was jabbing into the man’s side. He slowly raised his hands.

That's it for this little snippet. There's two more after this to finish off Chapter One, but if you feel like these are bogging down the updates then I'll put the last two into one final update which you can read or avoid at your discretion. Or, if you're happy with the frequency/length of these teasers, then I'll do two more. Let me know down in the comments.

(Also, I'm so glad you all have been enjoying the Choose Your Own Terror story! The comments sections on those have absolutely been on fire!)

But now, some of you have been wondering what the next stretch goal after Jon would be, and if there even would be one in-between Jon and Profundum. Well, it's looking like there will be one. And it's one that a lot of people have been asking for -

Wait, what? No, but that's not what we asked for at all! It's - Oh no… What have we done?!

Looks like the trays need to be upgraded to a much sturdier material, those don't look any better than the trays currently in the game boxes.

Very Excited to get the Profundum box. My only concern will be the quality of the plastic itself. It would be very disappointing to have flimsy plastic containing all that game material. I already saw some of the plastic in the pictures bending at their bottoms. But I understand that this is a prototype so just something to keep in mind!

One suggestion following ZenBins type stuff, can we get labels in the different spots to say what stuff should be going in them?

omg yes, this looks so good. Thank you for listening to the community and working to make these all in one storage boxes!

My concern still is for the cards.. There will be enough space for sleeved card? The space for the cards look very narrow and are all unseparated.

    6. Alex
      Superbacker
      on

@Brian I agree with you. I'm glad to know that this is only a prototype, but having the chance to have everything separated (someone mentioned KD:M), even if it was just by expansions, would be 1000x better

    7. Malbet

Just in case, if you'd like to do every single character before Ward... it's ok for us. Really. Don't bother asking.

It would have been nice if the box could hold 12 3D-printed locked hatches. I ordered 6 extra to be able to play only using those instead of the paper standees.

    9. Marc on

Box looking great, though I agree with Brian Hudson: having bags/sections for the various monsters/investigator cards would really help setting things up and decrease the time it costs. Indications of which token goes where would be handy too.

That said: yay, justice for Hannah!

Not sure if it has been asked but will the plastic tokens fit in the box? (I assume they will but best to check)

And there's a very good reason that Hannah looks like that, which we'll get into a little bit when we reveal more of her story. All of the investigators' Visages are inspired by the horrors in their lives, their secret motivations, and their inner demons. Hannah's is no exception.

The box is still very much still in the works, guys, so no worries at this point. This is just a first prototype of it. I'll bring up your concerns with the team. Glad you're liking what you're seeing so far!

    13. Miguel Leon on

This is awesome the only thing that would make it perfect2ould be KD:M style card dividers for individual decks and spawn cards.

The Profundum persuades me to back this project.....

    17. Brian Hudson on

To be honest, I'm not sure I even want Profundum. I've already sorted the tokens into a standard compartmentalized bead box that fits in the core box, along with all the other components that are sorted about as well as they can be.

The big thing, though, is that I've also split all the monster and investigator cards, models, and applicable tokens into individual baggies, so all you have to do is grab the bag you want and you have all the components for that monster/investigator right there. Profundum wouldn't allow that. So, I guess whether we make it or not won't bother me, and if we don't, then I'm not gonna buy it separate.

Any chance we can get a size comparison with the original box? And Also both new boxes, against all the boxes from an all in please?

I just want to understand how much both boxes save on space, vs the original boxes. By my calculations there's not much in it, although it will be neater without the epic boxes flapping about!

I love the idea of the Profundum box and I'm going to pick one up regardless. There are a ton of humongous games out there that simply don't offer a universal storage solution of any kind, and it's great to see DG listening and taking care of players by creating one.

However, I'm a little concerned about the durability of those box inserts. They look like the same thin, vaccum-formed plastic inserts that come with most games. I inevitably have to throw most of them away after a few months because they tear and crack with even moderate use. Especially the lids which get placed and removed every time a game gets used. And I'm meticulously careful with my games as well.

I have a 3D printer so if I need to I'll probably model the inserts into printable segments that fit together like a puzzle and then make them out of sturdier plastic myself.

    28. DKeith2011 on

Hope the trays in Profundum are sturdier than they look.

I'm sure you have an entertaining mad plan, but I personally was really hoping for a giant evil teddy bear for #justice forhannah. Never been much interested in the slenderman meme legend. Anyway, awesome artwork and cools stories, my complaints are trivial!

For me it would be very importent to separate the content from the core game/UH/EN and the "real" big box epansions.
Please consider this possibility for an otherwise stunning box!

      Another question @ Diemension Games.

When games like this incorporate a LOT of cards/ together with their expansions.. some might have thin stock dividers.

Was wondering if you would be interested in making small dividers that could go between the cards and come up a little bit to separate core/dagon/oracle etc?

    34. Anthony Goulet on

Slenderman confirmed for deep madness boys and girls!

@Jon Lim The last 48 hours stretch is always kinda big, so we gotta wait and see, but I'm having the same feel.

Are the inserts shown final? I kinda like them as prototype, but I don't think they give the game the quality it deserves, as of now, at least from the pics. 0.02$ (Game Trayz has some awesome trays design, even tough I like "sturdier" plastic)

@Pierre GUILHEM - It says right there in the update it will fit sleeved cards. Plus the pics are of sleeved cards. 😉

@Ian Graham - It will be available as an addon. This was stated in a previous update.

@Icehawk101 - they don't fit the current trays becuase they were not made to. That is why they had the card boxes for sell.

@Tran Shar & @DG i was wondering the same thing. Also i take it the plastic tokens will fit as well from the looks of the pics.
