@Larry, glad to help! As for if we're still going to hit September: no, unfortunately we're not. But we don't know of any game better suited for the Halloween season than this one, so it's not all bad. ;)

@SharKK, so glad you like what you've seen! As for how much the graphic design is going to change... I don't know. Our graphic designer had to bow out of the project, so we are working with new designers. The trick is going to be getting their very divergent styles to mesh, which will determine how much of the original stuff we can keep. (None of the art will change, just the design of the cards, boards, etc. may be effected.)

@Nacho, I haven't heard the final word yet. Hopefully we'll hear more soon.

What are those graphic design changes? I liked everything I've seen so far, hope its not major :|

@SebDemiss, hopefully really soon. I was hoping to have a bunch of gameplay stuff out already, but we ended up making some major changes to the graphic design (and ran into some problems therein), so hopefully I'll be able to start getting more videos and such out soon once that's finished.

@Igor, no problem at all! I'm glad to help however I can. =) You could always back at the standee level and then you'll have plenty of time to decide if you want the minis. (There's always the pledge manager after the campaign, too.) In fact, if you're on the fence about them then that's probably what I'd recommend. ;)

Thanks @Byron for being so responsive in this space, it's well appreciated. I'm definitely backing Dawn of Madness on day-1, the only major dilemma is whether to get the minis as I have many mini-heavy games backed already, plus the Deep Madness reprint arriving in September :)

    11. Byron Leavitt Collaborator
      Superbacker
      on

@Igor, in theory you could do anything you wanted to. The Deep Madness minis won't look anything like the Dawn minis, but as long as you keep them straight I see no reason why you couldn't.

If I get a cheaper version (standees) of Dawn of Madness, will I still be able to use my minis from Deep Madness in Dawn of Madness?

    13. Byron Leavitt Collaborator
      Superbacker
      on

@Larry, I don't know when a third Deep Madness printing would take place, but it would probably be next year at the earliest. Having said that, send us an email to deepmadness@diemensiongames.com (and you can cc me, too, if you'd like at Byron@diemensiongames.com) and we'll see if we still have enough product to squeeze you in to the 2nd Printing.

    15. Byron Leavitt Collaborator
      Superbacker
      on

@Nacho, we'll see. We had a graphic design problem recently that may push it back a bit. I'd say late-September/early-October as of right now.

    16. Byron Leavitt Collaborator
      Superbacker
      on

@Rafael, DoM is a co-op story-driven game that takes place over a variable-length campaign. There is some resource management, definitely plenty of (mitigatable) dice rolling, character progression, and a bunch of nasty monsters that you have to deal with in different ways. That's a really bare-bones, basic idea of some of the core mechanics, but hopefully that helps a little bit.

    17. Byron Leavitt Collaborator
      Superbacker
      on

@nepharite, it's something we're actively discussing. Hopefully we'll have more info on that soon.

I'm loving the concepts behind this game. As a backer from Deep Madness, the madness cards and bits of story throughout that game were terrifying, disturbing and added so much depth to a wonderful experience. Dawn of Madness sounds like it will take us on an even more immersive experience. Can't wait.

@Adam, at this point I would say there is very little chance of a Polish version, especially with how expensive this project will be to translate. Sorry about that, but just wanted to be honest. =/

    35. Byron Leavitt Collaborator
      Superbacker
      on

@Igor Pyrko, the cheaper version will have standees. (And, after talking with the team, it sounds like they'll be a step up from the normal standees in games...) It'll also still come with the four main wanderer characters as minis.

    36. Byron Leavitt Collaborator
      Superbacker
      on

@_DM_, it was our first prototype, and we're currently working on changing the background on the board. (We actually got a couple of people who worked on The Evil Within to do the graphics on the new one.) It'll be different by the time the Kickstarter hits. Glad you liked the malformations, though! And no offense taken at all, my friend. ;)

      @Byron
Will the cheaper version have standees instead of minis? Or will you use cards?

    38. Missing avatar

      _DM_ on

@Byron - Hey, I watched the LTP video just posted on BGG.
(And btw, the balance with the malformations is geeeeenius and just frigging exciting! I'm expecting to be given anxiety lol and Celestial! And Alice in Wonderland with multiple personalities lol)

Anyway... is the DoM background THE playmat/board of the game?
It might be a temporary placeholder or whatever,
      But JUST in case,
I was really surprised at how in-your-face-LIGHT it was. Looked exactly like the Anachrony game cover-- not the legit nightmare horror of DoM world (sorry!!).
It kinda took me out of what was being said, since I didn't feel the "creepy" or "terror" I expected.

I understand if it's an interpretention of a veil of sorts &/or brain and all the synapses firing.
But it just didn't work at all with the horrific theme, for ME.

JUST my 2 cents, IF that was/is the mat/board of the game.
If it's not... please disregard. lol And I really hope I didn't offend you.

I'm thinking that Companion App and Ambient sound would make this game more deeper.

Thank you for the informations awesome.
You said , you talk about gameplay reviews with your prototyps.

I would like to remind myself and my German board game channel (Genus Solo - Brettspiele ) on YouTube. I would like to make a German-language video for the Kickstarter campaign. Further information I have already communicated to you via Facebook Messanger. I would appreciate a Feedback. I wish you all the best.

For those wondering about translations, thanks for the feedback and requests. Keep them coming! We're still figuring translations out, but we're getting closer. (There's a LOT to translate in this game.)

    49. Byron Leavitt Collaborator
      Superbacker
      on

@Russonc, sorry for further feeding the addiction, but glad you're on-board! =D The average game will be about 2-3 hours, and the average campaign will be 4 games plus the finale (which will be 1-2 hours.) There also might be an intro game, but that will be very short and probably skipped on later campaigns. (The campaign length will also change in some cases, as it is variable-length.)

    50. Byron Leavitt Collaborator
      Superbacker
      on

@Kos, aka Kosm, we're going to have two versions: a "minis light" version for those who just want the gameplay or need a cheaper entry-price (around $70-75), and then the minis version, which will be around $130.

More videos and information to come! Are you ready for a true horror experience?

Unlock your past. Experience the nightmare. Embrace the dawn.

You have awoken in a world that can't possibly exist. Everywhere you look you see some fresh nightmare; some new perversion of reality. You don't remember how you got here. In fact, your mind feels as though it has shattered, its fractured memories scattered in the wind. Despite this, you see hints of your past all around you, glimmers of the familiar tormenting you amidst the twisted, fluctuating landscape. What's worse, though, is that as you stumble through this place you realize you are not alone. There are monstrous, impossible beings shuffling and slithering and skittering toward you, hideous beyond all comprehension. Their most disturbing aspect, however, isn't the abject terror they exude. It's that you recognize them.

It's not long before you discover there are other people here, too, wandering through this fever dream with you. They seem as lost, as scared, and as broken as you are. If you want to survive this place and escape, then you will have to band together with them, setting aside your differences and distrust to push back the oncoming torrent of seething corporeal chaos. Because otherwise you won't just die: your very essence will cease to exist.

Dawn of Madness is a story-driven cooperative game of survival horror for 1-4 players. Set in the same universe as the breakout hit board game Deep Madness, Dawn of Madness is a completely standalone, unique, and terrifying gaming experience. During the game players will assume the role of wanderers trapped in a feverish hellscape, surrounded by the distorted echoes of their own history. As one of these wanderers, you must seek to discover what led you to this horrific world, struggling to survive as you and your fellow players' stories unfold across multiple chapters in an ongoing campaign.

Experience true horror unlike any board game before as you are immersed in stories of terror and madness, using the amplified powers of your mind to survive and fight back against the encroaching aberrations out to devour you. Bind your consciousness to other players' in order to accomplish difficult tasks, and earn coda cards and memories to boost your abilities while uncovering your past. All the while you will be gathering story points toward one of the multiple endings for each wanderer, and in the campaign's epic finale the wanderer - and the ending - with the most story points will spawn their respective terrifying, relentless final boss.

The choices made throughout a chapter - and even the order those choices are made in -influence almost every aspect of the game, ensuring that no playthrough will ever be exactly the same. Adding even more variety, danger, and tension are the chapter-agnostic Abominations and their distortions who plague each game in unique and changing ways, summoning vortexes of energy to alter the course of play and bring fresh dangers with every round. And all these challenges don't even include the malformations: alternate versions of the wanderers themselves, each one increasingly more corrupt than the one before, and each one able to take players into the darkest recesses of their comrades' souls.

Hearkening back to survival-horror classics like Silent Hill, The Evil Within, and Alan Wake, Dawn of Madness is a mind-bending, psychological experience unlike any other attempted in a board game. So gather your wits and steel your nerves for a trip into other universes and the depths of the human consciousness. Sometimes, the greatest horrors of all lie within.
