CARDS & BOXES is a card game, easy to learn and play, from 2 up to 6 players with a single deck and suitable for every age.
How to play
Deal 4 cards to each player and place another 4 upwards and the remaining cards in the deck in the middle of the table. The player who is sitting to the right of the dealer goes first and each player will take turns in a counterclockwise direction.
Step 1.- The player picks one* card from his/her hand and places it upwards on the table.
* If the player has just taken two cards (step 3), he/she will pick two cards from his/her hand instead of one.
Step 2.- The player will gather the box or boxes he/she wants to make and retire it/them from the center of the table to his/her own deck. If no box can be made go to next step.
Step 3.- The player picks one* card from the central deck.
* If the player has just removed every upward card from the table, he/she will pick two cards instead of one.
Step 4.- If the player has taken any boxes (step 2), he/she will go back to step 1. If not he/she finalizes his/her turn.
The special card
The special card is that one compounded of four squares, it is treated as a box by itself and it is played differently from the rest of the cards, that is why it is special.
If the player has a special card in his or her hand, he or she can choose when to play it as any other card, but once he or she decides to play it, must change his or her cards following this steps:
Step 1.- Place the special card upwards on the table with the rest of the cards in the middle of the table.
Step 2.- Pick one card from the central deck.
Step 3.- Choose a player and swap your cards with the ones of this player.
Step 4.- Carry on with an standard turn.
Because the special card is a box by itself, the player who plays it, will always be able to pick it up in step 2 of the standerd turn.
If the dealer places any special cards upwards during the dealing, he or she will have to swap his or her cards wich the ones of the player of his or her will.
The player who has formed the most boxes wins.
Every card is played until there are no players left with cards to play. Then, if there are any remaining cards on the table, they will be removed and placed to the side.
In the remaining cards, if any, there must be equal number of red, blue, green and yellow squares, if there isn’t that implies some box has been formed incorrectly and the game is invalidated.
How to make a box
To make a box you must pick any number of cards (1 to 4) gathering one square of each color. You can double-check this by mentally overlapping the miniatures in the corners of the cards and verifying that they form a box.

Note: If you don't understand spanish simply use the facebook translate function and remember that what it will translate as "to make a square" means "to make a box". That should be enough. If not, ask me any doubt.
