Hi, All... it's Dick Prall and I have a new batch of songs ready to be released on a new DICKIE album.
Stretch Goal #1 - If we break our goal and reach $16,500, we will be releasing videos of two bonus songs that will not be on the new album! Anyone who donates $50 or more will be receiving this reward!
Stretch Goal #2 - VINYL! Thats right, if we reach $18,000, we’re pressing this thing to vinyl! Donations of $100 or more will receive DICKIE’s Minus Thieves album on vinyl!
Like every record, there’s a lot of excitement around it for me and this one starts with Billy Barton joining the DICKIE venture. Billy is a talented drummer and multi-instrumentalist from Traverse City, MI who graciously left his hometown be a part of this next music venture. We’ve put in a lot of work over the last few months to lay the groundwork for this next release.
What makes this next album all the more special is having the opportunity to get back into the studio with some old friends. Pat Sansone of Wilco and his studio partner Josh Shapera have offered to take the producers' reigns. Josh produced my records Fizzlebuzzie and Weightless and I know Pat from the days I was on Wilco's touring staff. In 2013, all three of us worked together recording my singles series, so getting to make a full-length record with Pat and Josh is a very exciting opportunity for both me and Billy.
THE STUDIO AND PROCESS
The extra bonus is that we’re recording at the Magic Barn studio here in my home state of Iowa. The equipment was purchased from the old Magic Shop in New York City, which means the gear we’ll be using is the same as what was used by artists like David Bowie, Lou Reed, and Blondie. Kind of cool, right?
The approach for this record is a simple one -- fast and furious. It’s a shorter amount of days tracking and the production will be a lot more stripped down than I’ve done in the past. I’m a big fan of lots of layers on recordings, as you may well be aware through my past albums, so coming at this way is weirdly appealing because it means a new approach recording music for me. Titled “Minus Thieves,” the focus for this record will be heavy on the melody and the rhythm and in the hands of Pat and Josh, they’ll wrap it all up in a sound we’ll be proud to share.
To make this record a reality, we’ve launched this Kickstarter campaign in hopes that you’ll help get us there. The cool thing about the Kickstarter platform is it gives us an outlet to get funding, while still offering you something in return. For the album to get recorded, engineered, produced, mixed, mastered, designed, and manufactured onto CDs, we’ve set our goal at $15,000. We’ve crunched the numbers and that budget will cover all those costs. As you may or may not know, Kickstarter is an all or nothing platform, meaning, if our goal isn't reached, no money is exchanged and the record doesn't happen. Sooo… this is why we need your help. We have a lot of different pledge levels that we put together that hopefully fit your budget, so if enough people pitch in, we have our new record and so do you, plus possibly a few things more, depending on what pledge level you choose. We’ve created a wide variety of levels for any budget with a range of rewards so we can show you our appreciation!
Billy and I are grateful to you for taking time to hear us out and we appreciate any size pledge you can put towards helping us reach our goal. Crowd-funding is an incredibly personal way of helping artists bring their work to light and we hope you get the same amount of pleasure by contributing as we do creating.
Thank you for considering a pledge to DICKIE’s “Minus Thieves” album, slated to release spring of 2019. Pledge or no pledge, we’d still love to see you at a show!
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk is funding and the time limit we have put on it. Just like the recording process of this new album, fast and furious, we will quickly be approaching the deadline! This is due to both of our day jobs, the processes that go into making a new record, especially the planning and details of it all. But we have the songs, we’ve booked the studio, and we have chosen incredibly talented people to make this record happen. We just need you to bring it all together!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
