A few weeks ago, as an experiment, I created maps of the special legislative primary elections in Minnesota's Senate District 54 and House District 23B.
Those were fun, but they also took me a few hours of work. I'd like to keep doing this, but need support to justify spending more time mapping the Feb. 12 general election. (I'd also like to put in a little more time to pretty them up.)
If I can get just $25 worth of support from donors by 8 p.m. today, I'll be able to replicate and improve on my work from January. (The Kickstarter will remain up until Tuesday for technical reasons.)
As is normal for Kickstarter, if I don't reach this $25 goal by this evening, then none of the pledges will go through and all backers keep their money.
I'll share the basic maps freely on Twitter, but backers will be able to get high-resolution versions, and — depending on support level — customized maps.
Thanks for your support!
I hit the $25 goal in just seven minutes, so thank you all a lot! I still appreciate your continued support, so I'm adding a stretch goal:
$100 raised: I'll create extra maps and charts for the closer of the two elections, breaking down the results, including comparisons to past elections in that district.
$200 raised: I'll create extra maps and charts for the second election.
Backers at the $5 level or higher will receive high-res versions of all extra graphics I create.
Risks and challenges
This is a small-scale project that won't take more than a few hours of work maximum. It's possible that a personal emergency this evening could impair my ability to produce the maps as quickly as I'd like. This is my first Kickstarter, but not the first time I've produced these maps. I have pre-written code with proven functionality that I can use as a base for these maps.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
