Snakes and Skulls: Freeblades Fantasy Miniatures
Shakrim Wavestalkers and Kandoran Deathmasters for the Freeblades 32mm fantasy skirmish game.
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Tue, January 22 2019 4:59 PM UTC +00:00.
Welcome to DGS Games' Kickstarter Project featuring the SHAKRIM WAVESTALKERS from the Freeblades fantasy skirmish miniatures game. Note that a second faction, the KANDORAN DEATHMASTERS will be created as well as stretch goals are reached.
(SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATED INFORMATION ON STRETCH GOALS!)
This project’s main objective is to fund the creation and production of the new Shakrim and Kandoran faction models for use in our tabletop skirmish game, Freeblades (www.dgsgames.com). These models will expand your play experience in both existing and soon to be released scenarios. Your backing will take this new faction from concept art, to masterful sculptures and then into production to be delivered to customers like you.
The base project is the six models that form a Shakrim Starter set, a pre-designed 150 gold freeband for use in Freeblades. These are white metal models, supplied unpainted. There are a limited number of pledges available where the models are available assembled and painted.
The Shakrim originated as outcasts of the Empire who were exiled or fled to the archipelago. There they fell under the sway of the Great Shakkamal, a manifestation of the god-aspect of deception and subterfuge. Shakkamal blesses his followers with reptilian characteristics in kind with their level of devotion and inner desires. The first generation took on aspects of snakes and are known as the Blessed, those closest to Shakkamal. Later generations have aspects of other reptiles and are known as the After. Over two thousand years the Shakrim have grown to a powerful realm that controls the eastern seaways between the continents.
The Shakrim freeband is led by the Steel Fang, a warrior of the Blessed trying to earn her way further up the ladder of the Shakrim noble hierarchy. She is already an accomplished fighter and some experience out in the wider world will raise her stature at home. Sculpted by Micah Nichols.
The band’s Caster is the Nerodix, an After well versed in the ways of water magic. With his command of liquids and vapors, the Nerodix is perfectly suited to enhance his freeband’s capabilities, especially in the Shakrim Isles. Sculpted by Andrew May.
The Shellback provides the group’s muscle. An After gifted with the characteristics of a turtle, he can stand in a combat with the hardest warriors in Faelon. If you have somewhere to go, and a Shellback blocks your path, it might stay blocked. Shakrim Hero. Sculpted by Andrew May.
The Viperon is a Blessed who has fallen into disgrace. The Great Shakkamal can be somewhat hard on those who displease him. Often, he will set the offender into a more natural state and let him earn his way back into favor. The Viperon hungers to please his patron deity. Shakrim Hero. Sculpted by Micah Nichols.
The band does not have an archer as such, but the Spitter serves this role well, although from a limited range. His venom more than makes up for this disadvantage, as enemies flee from his approach. Shakrim Follower. Sculpted by Chris Jackson.
The Tilik is not a Shakrim, but rather a creature native to the Isles. The Shakrim have trained Tiliks to run ahead and break up enemy attacks and pile on opponents in combat. Shakrim Follower. Sculpted by Andrew May.
If we fund it is the six models above that we will make for you. But let’s not stop there. Once we fund, it will be time to bring you the Kandoran Deathmasters. As we begin to meet stretch goals, we will be telling you about these dangerous freeblades, but let’s have a sneak peek at stretch goal number one, the Krayech’s Reaper.
Stretch goals can be taken as individual add-ons, but a total pledge in any combination of $120 or more gets you all stretch goals we reach, no matter how many that is.
Stretch Goal 1: The Krayech's Reaper UNLOCKED!
The Reaper is a bound undead, raised and compelled to serve the Jackal-Priests of Kandor. In life, the Reaper served as a Kandoran heavy infantryman. In death, he is an even more implacable foe, heavily armored, well-armed and very hard to kill…again. Kandoran Hero. Sculpted by Andrew May.
Stretch Goal 2: The Oppressor
The Oppressor is a slaver, plain and simple. While he will take on other tasks, what he normally gets asked to do is go get more labor for the Khan. He is completely without scruple and does not care whom he works for or with. Which is useful, as often the creatures he works with are not even alive. Kandoran Leader.
Stretch Goal 3: The Jackal Priest
The Jackal Priests are the core and expression of the Kandoran religion. The worship of Krayech is not the worship of a willing death, but of the usefulness of unlife. They are the most well known and numerous of the world’s necromancers and they hunger for ever more knowledge of this blackest of arts. Kandoran Caster.
Stretch Goal 4: The Awakened
Kandorans honor and worship their ancestors. But they also call on them for help! An Awakened is a powerful forbear, mummified and entombed according to their status and reputation in life. The same necromancy that preserved their worldly might can return them to serve once again. Kandoran Hero.
Stretch Goal 5: The Levy Spearman
The ranks of the Kandoran Army are steadied by the Levy Spearman. These are citizen soldiers who drill regularly and are trained in the use of both spear and bow. They also make good use of their pavise, a tall shield unusable in close action, but highly effective against arrows and other missiles. Kandoran Follower.
Stretch Goal 6: The Wretch
Some people will do anything for money. The Jackal-Priests of Kandor have no trouble finding those willing to help them search out and recover all manner of gruesome ingredients for their dark magics. Wretches are shunned by decent society, but if you need a body or body part for something, they always seem to know where to dig one up. Kandoran Follower.
A Word on Estimated Delivery Date
The estimated delivery date is based upon completing the project and a number of stretch goals that are typical for us. If we hit an amazing number of stretches, we may have to shift the estimated delivery. We will make this clear if we get there and we will work with backers to do split shipments, at their cost, if they so choose. We want to hit as many stretches as possible so we can fill your box with goodies. But we also have to be realistic about timelines if the lid comes off. The good news - current or adjusted for stretches - we have not missed a delivery date, so your pledge is in good hands.
DGS Games is proud to be a Made in the USA company. We work hard to validate our supply chain to ensure compliance with our business philosophy and also go a step farther to use local suppliers when able. We feel this allows us to deliver great products while minimizing risks to either quality or deadlines.
We love our retailers and are ready to work with you to build a custom pledge that suits your needs, gets you the models at a deep discount and provides for them arriving on time at your store. Contact Julie at email@example.com for details.

"Freeblades is a fantastic game - my favorite minis game to date. The miniatures are beautiful, and continue to impress with each release! Every Kickstarter I've backed with DGS has shipped on time (often early), and the staff is great to work with, always ready to help, whether it's a rules question or the rare product issue (mispacked starter set, in our case - resolved in less than an hour)." - Keith from Fun Factory
"These are the models that get gamers to buy figures for a game they have yet to discover. Another fantastic model." - Bryan about the Questing Knight of Sylvia on Facebook

A word on Scale and Material:
All our 32mm models are cast in white metal (lead free) alloy with the exception of a few of the larger models which will be in resin, or a mix of resin and white metal components. They are designed to match favorably in size with what has become known as “28mm heroic scale." Heroic scale models are not just taller than 28mm, they are also aggressively proportioned with large hands, heads, muscles and weapons. Our models are typically as tall as current “28mm” models, but reflect typical anatomical proportions and compare in scale with those by Reaper and other top manufacturers. They are superbly sculpted to allow strong character identification and a fun and rewarding painting surface. Whether used with DGS’s games, in role-playing or any other miniatures experience, our figures will enhance your gaming pleasure.

Risks and challenges
The risks to completion are very low. We have successfully completed SIX Kickstarter Projects and delivered on time. We have been producing 32mm metal fantasy miniatures for 8 years and are lucky to work with some of the best people in the business. Our experience with the 6 previous Kickstarter projects taught us a lot and we have established realistic timelines for our rewards and project completion. Our collaborating artists, sculptors and casters are proven reliable in their delivery of both concept and timeline. It's always true that something unforeseen can happen, and *that* is where our planning has gone. We have shown we can bring you a model according to our established Kickstarter timeline. Let's do it again!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
