"Anticipating a flavor closer to Brian Jacques' Redwall series, I was forced to quickly shelve all of my assumptions -- this title reads more like a Game of Thrones..."
Since Squarriors burst onto the scene a few short years ago, fans have been in awe of this amazing comic book series illustrated by Ashley Witter and written by Ash Maczko. The message from fans they receive over and over again is: “We need MORE!”
To create the intricate level of detail Ashley puts into each panel takes a very long time, and as popular as Squarriors is, it is still a labor of love. She still spends a majority of her time working on freelance gigs for other comics (including for Marvel & DC) and commissions for die hard fans. That’s where Kickstarter comes in.
Devil’s Due Comics already has plans to produce issues 4 and 5 of the “Summer” miniseries, a new volume 2 collected edition, and more, when Ashley completes them. Kickstarter allows for even more awesomeness in the way of NEW hardcover editions, enamel pins, Squarriors: The Card Game variant cards and more, but most importantly, a portion of the money is able to go towards Ash and Ashley so they can set aside other projects and get Squarriors moving!
With funds raised from this campaign, Ashley will be able to focus on finishing Squarriors: Summer issues 4 & 5, and bring all of this fuzzy badassery your way!
Squarriors is a comic book serial that centers around several clans of animals living in a world recently voided of humans. Since the demise of humanity, the remaining animal life on the planet have become intelligent. The sudden spark of rational thought creates an internal struggle for thses creatures; instinct versus reason. Animals of all species find themselves creating tribes and societies - each with their own beliefs, leaders, laws, and even armies. Some are working to be civilized while others embrace the barbaric ways of their ancestors. The clashing of these ideas erupts into ultra-violent wars across the planet. The remaining question, what did the humans do to result in their extinction? And how can the inhabiting civilization avoid the same fate?
In Squarriors: The Card Game, you control a tribe of woodland critters engaging in violence, betrayal, and mischief. Utilizing advanced tactics, relying on a unique code of the wild, and carefully selecting creatures, playing a game is like creating your own story from the comic series. Risks and challenges
The best part about this project is, the art for Squarriors Volume 1: Spring and the first three chapters of Volume 2: Summer are already done! All that is left to do is finish drawing Squarriors Volume 2: Summer #4 and #5. Once the Kickstarter is complete and series artist Ashley Witter has the funds, she'll be able to put all other projects aside and solely work on Squarriors. However, we understand that circumstances out of our control may happen, like sudden price increases, "Acts of God", etc. It is always possible that printing and manufacturing delays can happen, product can get lost in the shipping process, or human error may cause something to not be sent. That's why we've worked so hard to stay up to date with the latest tracking systems where we keep record of what has been sent, what is still pending, and any problems that may have transpired post-reward-sending.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
