Foreward by Art "Aw Yeah" Baltazar.
How to Self-Publish Comics: Not Just Create Them by Josh Blaylock is a 140 page book for anyone serious about being a comic book professional. Beyond just self-publishing, it's an in-depth look at the way the comic book industry works, from concept to shelf, and it aims to provide the value of a true understanding of the publishing process.
How it really works behind the scenes.
But this is now the 4th iteration of this book, so we wanted to do something special. That's why we're kicking it up a notch with the AUDIO BOOK.
A note from Josh Blaylock: "How to Self-Publish is the culmination of everything I've learned in publishing (and business) over the past 15 years spilled out onto the printed page. All of my thoughts, experiences and lessons learned in one simple, step by step, easy-to-read edition."
Since this is the MASTER EDITION, we're including a bonus section which includes How to Be a Comic Book Artist: Not Just How to Draw, by Tim Seeley. Invaluable to any aspiring artist, of course, but also extremely informative for anyone who will be working directly with an artist during the publishing process. These two books were always meant to go together, so it's about time they were collected together.
And as a cherry on top, this book is going to include a foreword by the one and only Art Baltazar of Aw Yeah Comics and Tiny Titans fame!
Originally released in 2006, we recently sold out of our 2012 updated edition, and have now prepared this new 2014 version, edited by the talented (and meticulous) Leah Lederman who helped us previously on How to Be a Comic Book Artist and Dirk Manning's Tales of Mr. Rhee.
It covers a number of topics including
- Building Your Publishing Infrastructure
- Forming Your Creative Team
- Sales & Marketing
- Digital Publishing
AND it includes sample purchase orders, invoices, printer quotes... things everyone needs to know to understand the publishing process!
NOW FOR THE FUN STUFF! WHAT DO YOU GET FOR HELPING SUPPORT THIS PROJECT!
Something Josh has always wanted to do is to build out an online component to all of this educational material. Something to allow a direct interaction with anyone looking for a little more one-on-one instruction, but still allowing for the ability to reach a lot of people at once. If we reach the stretch goal of $7500, that will finally become a reality! Including video workshops, live webinars, and maybe even a podcast!
Because it works! And it's the push this book needs! H2SP is one of those consistent, but slow sellers that we always want to keep updated, relevant, and available for those who want it. There are only so many people out there serious enough about making their own comics to read a whole book on it, but for those out there, there aren't a lot of resources speaking with experience.
Risks and challenges
Problems may always arise, but this book is completely written. We already have pre-orders from comic book stores, and simply need to make final tweaks for print-production and send to the printer.
We have successfully fulfilled numerous Kickstarter campaigns, and have implemented systems to ensure that not only every backer gets their order, but that we know how to prepare things before the campaign even launches to make sure our goals are properly set!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
