... and I'm honored to say that the wonderful Alessandro Cortini (of SONOIO and Nine Inch Nails infamy) is a backer and supporter of the Console platform! He's got some great ideas about the future of the Conole, and we're excited to see where this thing goes!
SHIPPING IS INCLUDED FOR ALL REWARDS! WE SHIP WORLD WIDE!
How does this whole Kickstarter thing work?
Read the KICKSTARTER BASICS for general info on how this all works!
How do I select multiple rewards (i.e. I want a Console I and Console III) or extra cartridges, shirts, etc?
Calculate the cost of everything, contribute that amount, then select the highest reward, and in the final survey (once the kickstarter is complete) we will ask you what extras you would like. :)
CONSOLE : FX PLATFORM FAQ
What is the Console : FX platform?
Quite simply it is a way in which guitar pedals can interact with a cartridge standard to create nearly limitless tonal possibilities at a fraction of the cost of owning a lot of bulky stand-alone effects units.
Is the technology open source? Will I be able to build my own carts?
Absolutely! We will be providing design specs as well as DIY info for people interested in creating their own cartridges, as well as a breadboard adapter in the future for easy development!
now the cartridges will include devi ever : fx Fuzz, Distortion,
Overdrive, Boost, and Noise Makers, but there is the possibility of expanding into
other kinds of fx in the future! Other pedal builders and circuit designers have expressed interest in creating everything from DSP platforms (in which almost ANYTHING is possible from bit crushing to dynamic delay to endless reverb, etc. etc.), to syntheser style effects, to analog delays, phasers, flangers, tremolos, popular dirt pedal variations. You name it, SOMEONE will be building it eventually!

Any non dirt / boost / fuzz cartridges available at launch?
Actually, yes! We'll also have a DELAY cartridge available at launch which you can choose as one of your carts if you choose a Console reward after contributing! :D
So are the cartridges some kind of software model of an effect?
No. The Cartridges are just like a guitar pedal, but with out the knobs, inputs, outputs, jacks, and switches. In other words, they hold the main circuit of a guitar pedal. Whether it would be an analog delay like the Boss DM-2, or a germanium based fuzz like the Fuzz Face, or the analog goodness of an Ibanez Tube Screamer... the cartridge holds the actual physical parts of the main circuit. This isn't to say that developers couldn't do a software based model if they wanted to. Strymon has become famous for their El Capistan delay which uses a DSP based foundation (similar to Line 6), and this kind of technology could also be incorporated into a cartridge if the developer wanted to! It depends on what the cartridge developer wants to do, and a lot of people want to keep things analog. :)
Absolutely! A lot of boutique pedal builders as well as indie developers have expressed interest, and we are excited to see what they, and DIY enthusiasts alike will come up with to get the most out of the Console : FX platform!
They will be made from thick ABS plastic which is the same material used in car manufacturing amongst other heavy duty applications. There will also be a metal back plate to keep everything extra secure. Also the cartridges will sit in the console low enough that accidental kicking should be very unlikely, and even if so, once again the cartridges are made from extremely sturdy materials.
Will I have to blow in my cartridges and Console in a few year like I had to with old gaming systems?
Actually, the issues with the NES console (where the blowing myth originated) was due to low-quality connectors (check out this video for more info), and we will most definitely be using the most rugged connectors available that have been proven to stand up to years and years and years of abuse. :)
How much will cartridges cost?
Devi Ever fuzz cartridges based on the current line of small pedals will be available for $50 a piece. We believe that most developers will be able to create circuits at 1/3 to 1/2 the price they normally do and we can't wait to see what everyone creates!
Perf board cartridges will most likely be around $35, but if you are advanced enough to create your own PCB, we will be offering the cartridge enclosure itself at around $15 a piece.
CONSOLE BASE UNIT FAQWhat are the Console controls?
- At it's foundation the Console platform consists of "channels" that have five knobs
whose functions change depending on which cartridge is inserted into
the unit. Each Console has it's own unique features that include blending, expression outputs, master bypass, and more!
is correct. The console's channel controls are a slave to whatever is
needed by the cartridge. For devi ever : fx fuzzes this will include a
master volume, pregain, ground lift (for oscillation), and dieing
battery simulator, plus an additional control for the fx that need it.
The current lineup of Consoles come with mono ins and outs. There may be the possibility for a stereo iteration of the Console platform in the future.
Does the Console support line level and mic inputs or instruments with active pickups?
AND PRODUCTION INFORMATION
As mentioned in the video, we are going to be building the Consoles and cartridges the same way we've been building guitar pedals for the past decade, with love, by hand, and with the help of a couple amazing companies who are able to do things we aren't in-house, which include 4Site Electronics who will be providing the necessary CNCing of the enclosures so that we can use our specially designed cartridges in the unit.
Screen printing and custom painted enclosures will also be done out of house either via 4Site or Pedal Parts Plus. As much as we enjoy doing this work by hand, we will definitely be requiring their help to get out as many Consoles as we are sure to be selling over the course of this kickstarter. :)
PCB engineering and enclosure layout will of course be done by the amazing INFANEM who has done all of our previous engineering work, including the last successful kickstarter Silver Rose project, and PCB manufacturing will be provided by ExpressPCB who also did the manufacturing for the Silver Rose pcb's, as well as our universal SMD boards.
And lastly, but not leastly, of course all graphic design is done in house by me, Devi Ever, and we will be hiring more contractors as necessary to help assemble all these in a timely manner! :D
