Dear Friends of Detroit Dog Park,
It has been a few months since we updated you, and quite a bit has happened.
Since the successful completion of our Kickstarter campaign, we found a 0.7 acre piece of vacant land and entered into an agreement with the city of Detroit to turn what was a playground into a dog park. During the fall of 2013, a team of Detroit Dog Park volunteers helped clean up the long-vacant site. We cut trees, removed brush, cleaned up debris and prettied up our future park - Macomb Playlot in the historic Corktown neighborhood of Detroit.
In addition to your donations, we received a small grant from the Nutro pet food company and have reached out to several contractors to help us put up a fence and open up the park. We are nearly there.
Every month, we still host Dog Party at Tiger Stadium, near our permanent site. The monthly event allows friends and neighbors to gather, play with their pooches, and learn more about us and what we do.
Things have also been busy on the organizational side. We expanded our board to 9 members. We have updated our website. And, we have started our own online store, selling everything from Detroit Dog Park magnets to hoodies. We are trying to spread the word, and of course, any help there would be most appreciated.
So, like you, we can’t wait for spring. We can’t wait for the ground to thaw so we can get to work enclosing the park and making this dream a reality. We expect that sometime this spring, we will be able to welcome you to Detroit Dog Park - the first of its kind in the city. We thank you again for your patience, support, and your desire to be part of that history.
