Mid-Winter Update!

Dear Friends of Detroit Dog Park,

It has been a few months since we updated you, and quite a bit has happened.

Since the successful completion of our Kickstarter campaign, we found a 0.7 acre piece of vacant land and entered into an agreement with the city of Detroit to turn what was a playground into a dog park. During the fall of 2013, a team of Detroit Dog Park volunteers helped clean up the long-vacant site. We cut trees, removed brush, cleaned up debris and prettied up our future park - Macomb Playlot in the historic Corktown neighborhood of Detroit.

In addition to your donations, we received a small grant from the Nutro pet food company and have reached out to several contractors to help us put up a fence and open up the park. We are nearly there.

Every month, we still host Dog Party at Tiger Stadium, near our permanent site. The monthly event allows friends and neighbors to gather, play with their pooches, and learn more about us and what we do.

Things have also been busy on the organizational side. We expanded our board to 9 members. We have updated our website. And, we have started our own online store, selling everything from Detroit Dog Park magnets to hoodies. We are trying to spread the word, and of course, any help there would be most appreciated.

So, like you, we can’t wait for spring. We can’t wait for the ground to thaw so we can get to work enclosing the park and making this dream a reality. We expect that sometime this spring, we will be able to welcome you to Detroit Dog Park - the first of its kind in the city. We thank you again for your patience, support, and your desire to be part of that history.

We're in Crain's - Detroit's future includes a dog park!

Greetings, Dog Parkers!

Just a quick update to let you know that we are finalizing some design and material issues, and fingers crossed, we should be building very soon.

In the meantime, our President wrote an essay for Detroit's business journal about what it takes to build a dog park in the Motor City. Take a look, and if you are so inclined, please consider a small extra donation via Paypal - we only have about half of what we need to build the full dog park in the design you have before you.

We thank you for your generosity all the way around, and we are grateful for your continued involvement in Detroit Dog Park.

PLEASE READ: Last call for rewards!! April 1 deadline.

Rewarded for your patience

Great news! The bulk of our Kickstarter rewards went out during the week, so sometime in the next few days, you'll be getting your reward in the mail.

Everyone who opted to receive a reward got a survey via the email address they supplied Kickstarter when they pledged. Based on those survey responses, we sent you your reward. However, there are still a handful of people that didn't respond, for whatever reason. We need your help to fill out that survey by APRIL 1. Check your junk mail or your archives if you don't remember getting a survey. If you still can't find it, email us at and we will resend.

With the rewards going out, this is pretty much the "end" of our Kickstarter campaign. But, we will continue to post updates on that site, as well as here and on Facebook. We hope to have more news for you on the park itself by the end of the month, so stay tuned and thank you for supporting Detroit Dog Park.

Rewards on their way!

Greetings! Detroit Dog Park went underground for a little while for the holidays, and before we knew it, it was *February*.

So, first, an apology! Secondly, an update!

Your rewards are ready - the ticket stubs, the ashtrays, bricks, the TTTTTT-----SSSSHHIIIIRRRRTSSS!!!! It took a little longer than we thought to get everyone's survey responses, and to get everything made up to specifications. But, it's all ready, and it's all ready to get packed up and in the mail. So, thank you for being patient, and thank you again for supporting us.

By the way, you can keep up with us on Facebook, and on our website at

Happy Valentine's Day from your future dog park!
