In the beginning of Destiny Fails Us, Idril's time is devoted to friends, video games, and a childhood crush named Vincent. Everything in her life gets flipped upside down all in one day. Suddenly, romance, school work, and friendships have become more complicated and as Idril takes a step back to reassess her life, You, the Player, take the reigns and decide what will become of Idril's teenage years.
Your choices will effect everything from your friendships, social status and love life, to your grades and what events you experience in the DFU world. Are you the type of person who strives to hold on to all of your friends and loved ones, or would you rather ignore the wants and needs of those around you to further your own gain? Either way, it's up to you to decide whether you would like to be the perfect angel, or feed your inner demon.
Destiny Fails Us is like a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Novel. It's an interactive story that brings in graphics, music, and sound effects together while you make choices that lead you down different paths and to multiple different endings.
When the game is ready to be released, it will be available for purchase at $15, but you can get the game for as low as $10 now by donating to our Kickstarter. The game will also not contain any DRM (Digital Rights Management).
Interested to see what DFU is like for yourself? You can! We have a demo where you can play through the Prologue and the beginning of Chapter 1 available for you to download right now!
Please note that the music and art, like the backgrounds, user interface, and event scenes, are yet to be finalized. In short, this demo is meant to give you an idea of the full game, but doesn't fully represent the final product that we have in mind.
Having a successful Kickstarter Campaign will allow me to continue to work on Destiny Fails Us so it becomes a full, commercial-quality game. I've already put thousands of hours on the graphics, interface, coding, and sound for the demo. With the funding from this Kickstarter, I want to take DFU to the next level.

New to Kickstarter?
You can donate to the project using your amazon account by clicking on the reward tier you want or the "Back This Project" button, located underneath the remaining days. At this point you can change your donation amount and finalize your tier, and you will be taken to Amazon to sign in and confirm your payment information.
If the project is successful, you will be charged upon the Kickstarter Campaign's completion on October 14, 2013. Until then, you can change the amount you're donating and your reward at any time.
If we reach $5,000 we will add another character, One-Hit-Wonder-Boy into the game. One-Hit-Wonder-Boy has appeared in the Destiny Fails Us manga a few times, with such great hits as "Your mom goes to college!" and "It's the final countdown! Dah da de ne, dah ne ne ne ne!"
If he was added into the game, would you take the opportunity to see the person behind those outdated sunglasses?
If we make $7,500 we will create a version of the game for you to play on your Android Devices! I'll also do my best to provide an OUYA port for the game as well.
We'll also look into releasing an iOS version of the game, but we cannot guarantee that.
At $10,000 we will add some secret characters into the game with their own story arcs.
And as an added bonus, we will be able to have Tyler work on the game alongside Ame full time during the winter months, which means more work getting done in a shorter amount of time. This possibly means that the game might be released sooner!
If we get $12,000 we will be able to hire voice actors to act out and voice the important scenes of the game. The settings in the final game will allow you to toggle the voices on and off at your discretion.
If we reach all of the previously mentioned Stretch Goals, we will update this with some more awesome stretch goals at $15,000!
In this section, we're going to take a moment to tell you about us, the creators of this game. Our names are Amelia Hanks (I also go by "Ame") and Tyler Cole, and we're a two person team that met in high school. We shared a few classes together, most notably a computer class where we bonded over long talks about awesome video games. We started dating the summer after graduation, and have been together for over 3 years now.
Hi, my name is Ame. Ever since I was little I wanted to create something that was both visually appealing and that told a story. I remember writing stories in class and drawing illustrations to go with them, and I remember the support I got from my teachers to push me towards my dreams. I started making a manga for Destiny Fails Us back in November of 2011 with Tyler's help and support, and in the winter of 2012, I started working on an Otome Game for the series. DFU has held a special place in my heart for a long time, as some of the characters have existed since 2007. Seeing this Kickstarter reach its goal would allow me to continue this dream and see the game to its completion. I want you all to know I appreciate every bit of support we get, and that I'll do my best to create a quality game for you all to enjoy.
Hello Awesome People, this is Tyler. I've always been one of those people that looks average from the outside. Throughout high school I mostly was a shut in, who minded my own business, and played lots of video games. I've had a fascination with video games and writing both since I was 10 year old kid making my own RPG on RPG Maker 2000. To this day I continue my creative processing/practice by writing often, and reading fantasy, poems, and other odd literature. Since Ame has started Destiny Fails Us I have been behind her with my full support. Despite most of my time going to sleepy hours and a full time job, I have thrown my heart and soul into the writing of this project, and I hope to continue to learn and create the story of Destiny Fails Us with the help of Ame and all of you amazing backers!
If anyone has questions, please don't hesitate to ask us! We'll answer as soon as we can.
Risks and challenges
This game will feature many event CGs, a lengthy story with many different routes and endings, and plenty of unlockables. The good news is, I've already laid down the ground work with a majority of the programming and sprites to be utilized later in development. However, creating the CGs, writing the story, and testing to make sure everything is playable, takes time.
After great discussion and analyzing the time it takes to do what we've done so far, both visible in the demo and taking account the groundwork we've already completed, we've given ourselves over a year to complete and release the game. In this time period, we feel we've given ourselves adequate time to accomplish everything with the possibility of always finishing ahead of time and releasing sooner. And I, Ame, will be working full time on the game up until it's ready for release, with Tyler helping me in all of his spare time and possibly joining me full time in the winter provided we reach enough funding.
In the case that something happens that causes us to delay our game, know that we are doing everything in our power to fix that. We plan on hiring additional help in certain areas to speed up the process, and in the case that someone is falling behind too much in those areas where it affects the game as a whole, we will have to replace them with someone else that can meet our needs.
Destiny Fails Us means the world to me, I will do everything in my power to get you all the quality game you deserve. Helping us fund this Kickstarter, spreading the word, and your kind words and support will not only help us release this game, but will also help ensure that we won't have any unwanted setbacks.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
