Aurora Carbon Fiber - Lume Infused Carbon Fiber - Perfected
We took carbon fiber and elevated it. We designed carbon fiber with glow in the dark lume infused right into the carbon fiber in 4 distinct stripes and we let you customize the ring we make for you out of it. This is our third iteration of Aurora Carbon Fiber.
PERFECTED - it took us 3 iterations and 4 years but we've finally perfected the Aurora Carbon Fiber Design. The result is a brighter glowing ring that feels fantastic to wear that you can customize.
What Is Aurora Carbon Fiber?
Aurora Carbon Fiber is a unique carbon fiber we designed that combines carbon fiber and glow in the dark material layered in between the carbon fiber layers.
What is Carbon Fiber? - Carbon Fiber is a hypoallergenic material that is made from millions of fibers of carbon woven into a pattern. It is infused with epoxy and cured to make the carbon fiber fabric rigid and wearable. Carbon is the single most common element on earth so people with traditional metal allergies can wear these rings.
How does the glow work? - We use an ultra bright glow in the dark material that is layered between the layers of carbon fiber. 15-30 seconds in sunlight will charge up the ring and it will glow intensely and slowly fade back to it's non glow state. In a very dark room the glow will last almost all night long but varies depending on glow color.
What Colors Are Available? - Currently we're starting with 5 colors but we anticipate branching into more if we can reach them through stretch goals. First up. If we hit our goal, Green, Turquoise, Fire (red), Blue, and Purple. We anticipate shooting for white, orange, and possibly lava as stretch goals.
How Does it Glow?
The glow that is infused into the carbon fiber glows in the dark after a charge. There are multiple ways to charge the glow. The best ways to charge up your ring is by sunlight or UV light (also known as a black light). Most colors will charge by just being close to a really bright lamp, car head lights, LED flash light or even your cell phone LED light can charge most of the colors. The only exception is Purple. Purple needs to be charged by sunlight or UV light.
Which Colors Glow Best? - We listed ALL potential colors that we can offer. Some of these aren't available but if we have enough backers they might become available. We've indicated which are available now and which might become available through stretch goals.
Green - Green is by far the brightest and longest lasting. It charges in seconds and will stay glowing in a very dark room for 8 full hours. Green is available!
Turquoise - Turquoise glow is a close second to Green and has a beautiful turquoise/Aqua glow color that isn't green or blue but somewhere between. It will last nearly a full 8 hours in a very dark room. Turquoise is available!
White - White glow is unique. It's almost as bright as green for a very short time and fades quickly. As it fades it takes on a faint blueish tone. The glow color is beautiful. I always feel like it's the glow color of angels because it's such a mesmerizingly beautiful glow and the contrast of white and black is a plus. White is not yet available!
Blue - Blue is by far the most popular glow color we've offered. It glows well and stays strong for a long period of time in a dark room. Not as bright as aqua or green but still very strong. Blue is available!
Purple - Purple is the color of royalty and it certainly fits this ring. It's beautiful. With a full charge it's indigo and fades to a royal purple. Purple is Available!
Fire (red) - Red is a unique glow. It's red during the day for sure. When it glows though, it turns into a fury of color that resemble the embers of a fire or a camp fire. It starts off bright orange with tiny yellow tones and then fades to an red orange and then finally back to red. It's the second most popular color. It doesn't last as long as the previous glow colors. Fire is Available!
Orange - Orange is orange is orange. It is orange during the day and glows orange in the dark. Orange is not yet Available!
JOKER - Joker colors have varying brightness because of the two colors. The green definitely outlasts the purple but the combination is far too perfect.
Customize Your Ring
We wanted to make something that was totally customizable. We understand one size DOESN'T fit all. The factories over seas don't understand this, which is why we designed our carbon fiber to customizable.
1. Size - customize your size. Sizes available are size 4-16.5 by half sizes in US sizes. If you need help finding your ring size or converting it from a non US ring sizing system, please scroll to the bottom section titled "Find my ring size."
2. Color - You can select your glow color. That's the whole point of this Kickstarter. Green, Aqua, Blue, Fire (red), Purple are the starting colors and more will be added.
3. Width - This is my personal favorite part. I started Carbon Fi because I couldn't find a ring with a broad width that was made from carbon fiber that I liked. Not everyone likes a wide ring so we have options for you! You can select your width between broad, medium and narrow. Broad is 1/2" wide or 13mm. Medium is just a hair over 3/8" at 10.5mm Narrow is 1/4" or 7mm wide.
4. Finish - You are able to select the finish you'd like on the ring. We are hand making them for you so why not hand finish it the way you want right? Select between a high gloss or a matte finish. The gloss finish has a classy look and the glow really pops. The matte finish features more of the nuances found in the layering of the carbon fiber.
3 different widths. Narrow, Medium and Wide.

Stretch Goal 1 = Unlocked
Stretch goal one is a first for us. We've never done anything quite like this before. We incorporated 2 colors in one ring. We went with the Joker Theme because we're quite obsessed with the contrast of the colors as we as Heath Ledger as the joker. Here's a mock up of how it looks.
Stretch Goal 2 = $30K
We will unlock White Aurora at $30K.
Aurora Carbon Fiber History
Version 1 - Aurora Carbon Fiber Version 1 glowed in the dark and featured 10 narrow glow stripes. It was the first of it's kind. Totally innovative. But being the first of it's kind it was far from perfect. It had very narrow glow stripes that didn't glow long or bright. In addition, the edge of the ring had too few of carbon fiber layers and it was prone to chipping.
Version 2 - Aurora Carbon Fiber Version 2 glowed much brighter. We reduced the stripes to 5 medium width stripes. It upped the glow strength and longevity. To prevent chipping we squared off the edge. This worked but it wasn't as comfortable as Version 1.
Version 3 - Aurora Carbon Fiber Version 3 (this Kickstarter) is the perfection of 2 previous attempts. We've solved all the issues we had with the previous 2 designs AND we improved the overall design in many ways. We increased the width of the glow stripes. The glow stripes have been pumped FULL of glow in the dark lume to make them even brighter and last longer than ever before. This next piece may seem like such a minor detail, but it makes a huge difference. We added an extra layer of carbon fiber to either sides of the ring. This allows us to shape the ring to be extremely comfortable no matter the width you select. We can add comfort fit to the inside and round the exterior for a super comfortable fit.
The Aurora Carbon Fiber Version 3 is 4 years of innovation and learning. It's the culmination of hundreds of thousands of dollars of development, blood, sweat and tears. I have personally poured over this design and have had multiple restless nights up at 2 am crunching numbers, drawing, designing and planning through this 3rd version. Because of the support we have received over the years and the extreme effort we've all put in at Carbon Fi, you're getting the best of the best. The one and only Aurora Carbon Fiber Ring by Carbon Fi.
We wanted to share a little insight into what the process of making a ring from our Aurora Carbon Fiber looks like. As you can see, we designed the carbon fiber to have glow or lume infused right into the carbon fiber itself. We cut a blank from the plate of carbon fiber using diamond hole-saws and water to keep it cool. Overheating carbon fiber results in de-lamination and resin voids. It is important to cut slow and with proper water cooling. After we've cut a blank we hand finish and size it on a manual lathe. It is very difficult to properly finish carbon fiber with machines. We've found hand made is the most efficient and results in the best looking carbon fiber.
We created a video with a slide show of all the colors but we thought we'd slap some down here too in case you missed it!
We took a really long time prototyping and testing. We didn't want to have any issues with this carbon fiber and we sent out 20 rings to loyal customers to wear around and beat the crap out of to see how they'd hold up for several months before reporting back.
We are offering a keychain option. We understand not everyone wears rings. For those that are buying a ring or two, these will be upgrade options AFTER the Kickstarter ends for everyone backing us for a ring or two so don't worry, you will have a chance to add these on.
Find My Ring Size
Aren't sure about what your ring size is or need to convert it? We've got some links to help you out. Don't worry you can still back the project without knowing your ring size. We won't be asking for sizing until after the Kickstarter ends and even then it isn't required immediately.
To find your ring size we there are multiple simple ways to find your ring size. You can go to a local jewelry store to get sized. We understand you might not enjoy the pressure to buy something if you do walk into a jewelry store so we have a few links where you can buy a ring sizer for a very affordable price online.
If you need to convert your ring size to a US size and need help use one of these links.
Last but not least if you still need help finding your ring size and the previous methods aren't helping, try this site.
ABOUT CARBON FI
Carbon Fi is a small business based in Gilbert (near Phoenix) Arizona. We hand make carbon fiber rings in our shop. Carbon Fi is comprised of Tyler Wright, The founder and lead designer. Dallin Wright, the lead maker and production manager. Luke and Jared Heywood our experienced Makers. Amber Harper, is our administrator. Together we all form Carbon Fi.
Tyler, the founder, the dude writing this portion about himself (which feels weird), started Carbon Fi in 2013. When I got married, my wife gave me a pretty standard tungsten ring. It didn't have much to it. After some time, I began working with carbon fiber making car parts for fun as just a hobby. I was pulling a mold off of my car where I was making an open mouth grill out of carbon. I smashed my hand on the radiator and the ring shattered. Tungsten is notorious for being so hard that it's brittle. The tungsten cut my finger open pretty bad, but as I was holding my carbon fiber part with a broken ring, the light bulb suddenly went on.
I set to work designing a plate of carbon fiber to make my first ring. It took 9 hours to make my first ring. I took nearly everything I had in my savings account, which wasn't much because I had recently graduated from ASU and just had my second child. I bought my first lathe (not knowing what a lathe was) and ordered more carbon fiber. I wrecked 20 rings in a row and was down to my last piece of carbon. After some encouragement from my wife I started again and FINALLY made a successful ring after almost giving up and spending all of our money.
I had a full time job and moonlighted as a carbon fiber ring maker in my garage for nearly 2 years. I mastered the carbon fiber ring making. I'm faster, more efficient and I have likely hand made more carbon fiber rings than anyone on the planet. I quit my job two days after closing on our house and went full steam ahead.
I now have a shop. I have makers working for and with me. I do collaborations and I work with other makers in my same space to grow their businesses and share. I consider myself a carbon fiber ring designer and the Aurora Version 3 is the culmination of roughly 4 years of work and tens of thousands of dollars of carbon fiber and thousands of rings. It is the perfection of the Aurora Carbon Fiber Design.
Risks and challenges
We've successfully completed 2 Aurora Carbon Fiber Kickstarters and we've worked through many of the issues we encountered in there. Even if something catastrophic were to happen to the owner, The project will still be completed. We have trained makers and skilled artisans working for us that depend on this project's success to succeed. There is a small potential risk of an issue occurring with our carbon fiber supplier. That might create a small delay but won't be detrimental.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
