We've just finished designing our biggest, baddest, best collection yet - but we need help making it real. Help us make the future shiny!
Hello friend! If you're here, you're probably a fan of our product line and website. You' ve followed our progress over the past three years. It's been a wild ride, and we've learned so much and met so many amazing and inspiring people. We've been slowly expanding our product line over the years, but since we're completely self-funded, it's been hard for us to really grow.
We've just finished designing our biggest, baddest, best collection yet - 33 new pieces of jewelry, all with the cheeky humor and clever ideas you've come to know from Design Glut. We're really, really excited about it. But it's going to cost a lot of money to get samples made.
33 designs x 3 colors each x $100 a prototype + $100 shipping = $10,000.
We can't fund this right now, but we really need to get the prototypes ASAP in order to launch the collection in January, when all the stores do their buying for spring and summer. It's a big problem, and we're turning to you for help. Keep Design Glut alive, and get great rewards while you're at it!
Design Glut was started by Kegan Fisher and Liz Kinnmark in 2007, when we were still students. Liz had just designed Egg Pants, Kegan designed the Hookmaker, and together we designed Crude Jewelry (a political parody aimed at the oil industry.) As we bounded out of art school, we had a whole lot of love for design, a ton of enthusiasm, a few great products, and little-to-no business sense. Luckily, we're not afraid to admit our flaws.
We started filling in our knowledge gap by talking to people that knew a whole lot more than us - and then posted the conversations online for everyone to share. We've met so many amazing people along the way and are still pretty obsessed with how cool the design community is. And as our business sense grew, we've had some huge successes. We landed Egg Pants in the MoMA Design Store and on the front page of the New York Times. We got the Hookmaker into Urban Outfitters and Target. We've sold to almost 100 stores and been featured in as many magazines.
A lot of people think we're bigger than we are - but really, we're 2 people in a Brooklyn loft. And we're proud of that fact! We're doing this work because we love it, and we because we believe it's possible to live your dreams.
