Why do Neon Trees and Imagine Dragons, among other major musicians, have such strong roots in Provo?
The $3,000 funding goal has been reached! If the new goal of $3,750 is reached, all backers who donated $25 or more will also receive a special behind the scenes edition of the film!

Why Do So Many Killer Bands Come Out of Provo?
Why is Provo so full of talented musicians? How big of a role does the Mormon church and the local college, Brigham Young University, play? What about the city's push for the arts? And the local venues? Where does this culture of music come from? I am going to answer these questions by interviewing the artists, prominent music figures in the area, and others who have played a role in the development of music here.
The goal of this documentary is to explore why the local music scene runs so deep. With so many possibilities, this film has the potential to run in a lot of directions. No matter where the film, goes it is going to be an interesting look in to where this huge local music scene has come from.
How will your money be spent?
1. Music Licenses - Artists deserve to be paid for their work and don't need more work for their "portfolios". Funds will be used to secure rights to use music from local artists in the film.
2. Travel - While most musicians live locally, it is still a commitment in time and money to find and interview musicians along with others in the area.
3. Film Festivals - Funds will be used to pay for entry fees to film festivals.
4. Rewards - Funding will be used to produce and ship rewards to backers.
I hope you feel the same passion as I do about this film. The journey to finish it will be an adventure for me as well as those who appreciate the talented artists in Provo. So many musicians came from this college town so let's see why, together!

In any film or photo project there will be challenges, technical or logistical. My years of experience behind the camera and editing bay means I know how to get work done. There will be challenges in this project but they will be overcome and this film will be finished.
This film is going to involve all aspects of music in Provo. Muse and Velour play a big part but there is more to the scene than those two venues. The house shows, Provo culture, and other businesses also play a huge role in how the scene is developing here.
The film is in the beginning stages of production. I've been filming concerts and events, talking to musicians, and learning as much as I can about Provo music.
The music scene in Provo runs deep. To learn more about it I've been talking to people who have been in the community and industry for awhile. Everyday I get messages and emails from people exposing me to new aspects of the scene that I wasn't familiar with. No shallow Google searches here. I am speaking with real people hearing real stories.
I have years of experience in film and journalism. Check out this blog post for more information http://derricklytle.com/2013/08/04/a-little-about-me/
As much as possible the classes will be taught in a group but exceptions will be made for those that can't make the scheduled date for the classes. The date will be finalized after speaking with all the backers who selected this reward option. Also, the classes will be recorded and support will be offered to those that are not able to attend the class in Utah.
