Avast ye, sailors!

Scurvy Dogs, being our original Big Project at Scallywags International, is something we think about quite often. And in 2013, there's some big Scurvy Dogs news on the horizon.

First, quick housekeeping - we're still having difficulty shipping the water-colored card art from Colombia to the USA. Dern now has about 90% of the water colors, and will start shipping more to the cameo and art backers. Thank you again for being patient with us.

Now, our first big announcement: Scurvy Dogs: Treasure and Treason.

Treasure and Treason is a 54-card expansion for Pirates and Privateers. It features five new Cargo cards and eight new Mission cards, and will be available for pre-order by Monday.

The cargo cards are built to help balance some parts of the game (cannons that bombard a shoreline), while offering some truly wicked twists to other parts of the game (say, that's a nice ship you have there. Be a shame if anything happened to it).

Mission cards will offer a new dynamic to the game, increasing the paranoia and thwarting carefully laid-out plans. We'll look at them more in a bit.

Here's a sneak preview of the five cargo cards:

Yes, they do have typos on them. We're not sending them to the printer until Monday, so consider it fixed.

      Heyo Dern,
It looks like Barrel and Manacles are missing a "to" - they should say " can choose to discard this card *to* take this reward..."

@Jason One of the key things we wanted to do with the expansion was fix two of the bigger problems in the game - cannons and Letters. The new cargo does everything we need to balance cannons, and half of what we need to do to fix Letters. The Missions finish up the fix needed for Letters.

As for the directions, we've been creating an unofficial FAQ on BoardGameGeek here:

I'll steal a bit of my most recent post from there to let you know what's up, too:

Here's our to-do list right now:

      1. Set up the pre-order for the expansion, Treasure and Treason.
      2. Finish the FAQ and post it.
      3. Finish the Quick Play Rules and post it.
      4. Take photos of a set-up game.
      5. Record a video tutorial and post it.
      6. Also write up a tutorial.

We need to get all of this done before Origins, where we'll be running demos of the game as well.

You guys are having a go with us right? I, along with many others (check the BoardGameGeeks site) are still waiting on the promised fixes for the game! Rules clarifications galore, an example game play and/or (preferably and) game play video. Nothing has been done with this game since it was released to help the players work through the extremely poorly written directions. I find it hard to believe you're going to have a market for expansions.
