The Dynamic Duo
One of the greatest teams in sports car racing history was an unstoppable duo. Drivers Hurley Haywood and Peter Gregg won races together for a decade before tragedy struck.
Hurley Haywood was just a college kid in 1969 when Peter Gregg recognized his talent and took him under his wing. Just a few years later, Haywood and Gregg won the 1973 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring back-to-back. But this early success was just the beginning.
Nicknamed “Batman and Robin” by the racing press, the Brumos Porsche duo went on to win world championship races together for nearly a decade. Fame and fortune followed the men. They lived seemingly perfect lives. But beneath the thrill and glamour of racing is a humanity that is often overlooked or misunderstood.
This documentary feature film will give a never-before-seen look at the private lives of legendary drivers Hurley Haywood and Peter Gregg. This film will provide new perspective on their meteoric rise to fame and attempt to find meaning in the untimely death of Peter Gregg.
But we can't do it alone.
Race fans, we need your help!
Please help us tell the story of these legendary drivers. We've been traveling the country to gather the materials we need to make this movie. But now we need the help of the community to complete the project.
We're at a critical moment right now. Much of the film is shot and we've already started editing. But there's a lot more to do! We need to continue traveling to finish our interviews. Only then, when all the interviews are done, can we start the long and complicated post production process.
This last leg of the race is the most important, and the most expensive. And that's why we need your help to get it done right.
Where will the money go?
This film is a passion project for us. We're asking for your help to fund the bare minimum costs of getting this film completed. Every dollar you contribute will go directly to production costs. They include:
Production Travel + Editing + Motion Graphics + Archival Footage + Sound Design + Musical Score + Color Correction = Finished Film
Your support is going to make this film the best it can possibly be.
When will the film be completed?
We're nearing the finish line! We've been working on the film for over a year and a half already. We still have more interviews to shoot, but the remainder of the work will be in editing and the entire post production process. If all goes as planned, the film will be completed and ready for festival premieres in early 2017.
Unprecedented Access & Cooperation
We are thankful to have the support and cooperation of many key players in telling this story, including the legend himself, Hurley Haywood, Simon Gregg, Don Leatherwood, Bill Warner, and many others.
But we're not finished yet! There are many others on our list who we just haven't had the chance to connect with yet.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have a story to share.
Because of this great cooperation, we will be able to show race fans many never-before-seen photos. Like this one:
We're Roaring to Go
Help us get back in the action! We've got a lot more work to do to get this film ready for you to enjoy. All of your pledges will help us get out of the pits and back into the race.
Don't Stay Silent
We can only do this with your help. Please spread the word and share this page with all of your friends and fellow race fans!
Risks and challenges
The greatest challenge for us is finding enough photos and film footage of Hurley and Peter from the 1970s to be able to tell the story properly. Please contact us if you have any material you'd be willing to contribute.
