I'm Denny Daniel and I curate The Museum of Interesting Things.

For over five years, The Museum of Interesting Things has been inspiring kids and adults to be innovative, while demystifying the complexities of our fast paced, high-tech world. Through its interactive exhibitions and presentations, The Museum travels the country and shows people their smart phones, Ipods and similar stuff didn't pop out of thin air! These items came from a long line of inventions.

Over the past six months, we've been actively working on a new exhibition/offering called the Secret Speakeasy, highlighting U.S. history from the Prohibition era through World War II. We've amassed an amazing collection of museum pieces such as rare and exciting 16mm and 8mm films from the early to middle 1900's, along with amazing artifacts including a moonshine still, sealed Prohibition era whiskey bottles, and other fascinating treasures like World War II messenger pigeon parachutes.

Through your kind contributions, we now welcome your help in getting the Secret Speakeasy to the finish line, making it available for all to enjoy! Having expended over $8000 dollars already we're looking to raise at least $2,000 in additional contributions, to offset the costs associated with this wonderful project. Anything beyond this funding goal will of course offset the debt we have already incurred. Please contribute what you can so The Museum of Interesting Things can continue to inspire and bring back tinkering through its sharing of knowledge and history.

You'll be bringing this production of The Secret Speakeasy: Prohibition through WW2 directly to fruition. We plan on debuting the show at our Soho loft in New York City, as well as at Theater 80/The Gangster Museum in NYC. You’ll also be helping, directly and/or indirectly, to acquire, transport, and exhibit one of The Museum's newest artifacts for the show--an original WW2 U.S. Navy binnacle ship compass manufactured by the Lionel Train Company in New York! Lionel produced many ship compasses for the war effort and this is one of them.

Once our funding goals are met, we'll be announcing opening night details for the Secret Speakeasy and the unveiling of antiques for exhibition and demonstration. I can’t wait for you all to see and experience these amazing artifacts of our nation’s history. This will be the first time most of these rare items have been exhibited. Thanks for your wonderful support through the years and in this new endeavor. It really means a lot to me, the team, and all the people we hope to inspire.

Risks and challenges

The availability of the venue may delay the show date by a month or so and the shipping company may not deliver the Lionel WW2 ship compass on time. Lets hope they deliver it safely too!
