Stop the Press ... Wait ... no, Start the Press!!
It's that special time for an update from Team MOSF and there's plenty of news for you! First and foremost I'd like to once again impart my heartfelt gratitude for every one of our backers patience. I was thinking about this the other day and wondering what makes you all so amazing in this manner, only occasionally sending the odd query about how things are going. Then i realized...we all here because we love Scifi. Patience and kindness is itself an innate characteristic we all share. After all, how long have we calmly waited for the Star Wars prequels, a new Star Trek TV series or the continuation of Sanctuary! In the end I hope you feel as i do, that it's been worth the wait.
So onto the latest news. My team in Australia and I finally received the test print of MOSF. The purpose of this prototype is for error-corrections and amendments to make sure the book is perfect for you. There were a few things that needed to be addressed and this has finally been completed and we are ready to pull the trigger on the print run and delivery of the book! Ken is in final discussions this week with the dispatch agency and all going well we should be hitting the "go" button this Monday! Once we do this we will firm up a date for the launch party which looks to be early October at this stage.
Showing the prototype to many of the actors has been a wonderful experience. The reaction has been one of love and excitement and I have been enjoying collecting their autographs in the book which is what i hope you will do to! MOSF has turned out exactly as i'd hoped. This is quite something for me to say because i am rarely happy with anything. You all know the book is quite overdue. Part of the reason is because I just kept adding actors to this volume. This had the flow-on effect of creating a lot more work for our scribe Sabrina Furminger. The end result is a book that is approximately 30% thicker then initially anticipated and promised. This has also had an effect on the financial aspects as it will cost more to print and much more to ship. But creating something beautiful for you doing justice to the wonderful men who collaborated with me in this project has always been first and foremost on our minds at MOSF home-base.
Slip-Case Edition: Interestingly i was looking at a book in a slipcase recently and found myself needing someones help to pull the book from its cover. Two of us struggled to wrench out the tight-fitting tome in a tug of war. I ended up tearing the cover in the process which immediately concerned me as i know how individual tolerances in production-runs can vary.
We did not want anyone receiving the MOSF special edition and having to enlist the help of neighbors to get it out of its slipcase! The end result for those that ordered the slip-case edition is that we have upgraded this with a beautiful linen-bound box with magnetic clasp. Once again this is substantially upping the cost of the production run for us but it's just so beautiful we couldn't do it any other way.
We have certainly learnt a lot creating MOSF Volume 1 and are well on the way to having a wonderful collection of new men for Volume 2 not to mention WOSF [Women of Scifi] which which will launch later in the year!
Thank you all again for the kind support. The encouragement and love we receive both directly and on social media every day is heartwarming and inspiring. So say we all!
