About this project
Delta Mouth Literary Festival is Baton Rouge's premier event of literary excellence! Each Spring, we celebrate the literary arts by bringing some of the most exciting writers from across the nation to our own backyard. This year's festival will be held the same weekend as the St. Patrick's Day Parade (March 12th - March 14th) at various venues throughout Baton Rouge. In celebration of our Creative Writing program's 30th anniversary here at LSU, this year we'll be placing special emphasis on showcasing our own alumni and local talent.
Here's the confirmed lineup for this year:
Thursday, 7:30 PM @ Firehouse Gallery: BROOKE CHAMPAGNE, BROCK GUTHRIE, ANGUS WOODWARD, EARL LOVELACE
Friday, 7:30 PM @ LSU Bookstore: MEL COYLE, JENN MARIE NUNES, MEGAN VOLPERT, BRAD RICHARD
Saturday, 7:30 PM @ Walls Project Art & Design Center: MAURICE RUFFIN, MONA LISA SALOY, CORINA COPP, DESIREE DALLAGIACOMO, BUDDY WAKEFIELD
Since Delta Mouth’s inception in 2009, this volunteer-run effort has remained completely free and open to the public. But it can only happen through the generous donations of lit lovers like you!
Every dollar we raise will go directly toward:
1) Providing meals and lodging/home stays for the writers (this asset is crucial for our success);
2) Financing the rental fees for the reading venues, as well as AV & creative services costs;
3) Supplementing the readings with all of the things people like to socialize around: art, music, food and drinks! (And yes, this festival is free! Can you believe it?);
4) Invite all of Baton Rouge and the State of Louisiana to attend through clever marketing strategies known as what we prefer calling "publicity blitz" with posters and print advertisements;
To be certain, our primary objective will always be to provide Louisiana's public with free events of literary achievement, but we can't make these plans happen without your generous support!
Each year, local writers offer up accommodations to visiting writers, as well as other crucial contributions. If you are in the position to offer this nonprofit organization its needed support, we welcome your donations with gratitude!

Risks and challenges
Each year, we rely on crowd-sourced fundraising tools such as Kickstarter to raise all of the funds we need to bring exciting visiting writers to Baton Rouge's local literary community. Like all businesses and nonprofits seeking opportunities to "give back" to our community, we face challenges due to the economy in general and particular due to budget cuts at the state level, which directly impact our colleagues and friends system-wide at Louisiana State University. Despite these difficulties, however, we have been growing each year from a one-day program to this year's three-day festival, featuring at least three readers per night.
We are firmly dedicated to serving both our geographical community and our artistic community, across all lines of orientation/identity, affiliation, creed, age, sex/gender and color. We operate with this mission statement in mind at all times, hosting in non-traditional venues in different neighborhoods throughout the city of Baton Rouge, and utilizing all forms of media savvy at our disposal to reach everyone we possibly can. Please help us unite Louisiana's vast and diverse literary community for this exciting weekend-long event!
