The closing of DeLeon's former label JDub Records put the future of alternative Jewish music in jeopardy. But when one door closes, another one opens. DeLeon already invited their fans to compile a list of their favorite Sephardic folk songs for DeLeon to record (video below). Now we need your help getting those recordings out into the world. So step through our door, and don't worry about wiping your feet. We like it muddy.
Qué Pasó?: DeLeon has released two albums on JDub Records showcasing their unique interpretations of centuries old Sephardic folk music. While touring the country with bands like Gogol Bordello, Os Mutantes, Ozomatli and Mike Gordon we introduced the mysterious and entrancing Ladino melodies to hundreds of people nightly. We had our video for La Serena featured on the front page of YouTube, garnered pages of positive press and received substantial radio airplay. So why do we need your help?
Qué Pasará? Our next album will be our first independent release, but that doesn't mean we can release it ourselves. Without the backing of JDub's donors we're left to fund the many parts of the album's release ourselves. Including, not only the production of the album but all the promotion that comes afterwards to make sure people get the chance to hear it. The $7500 we're looking to raise would realistically get us only about half way there. And the thing is, we only get your donations if we meet our goal. If we do not meet our goal, then you don't get charged and we get nothing.
We're not the type of band to take your support for granted. That's why we've come up with a diverse list of rewards to say "thank you" for your support. Feel free to mix and match to get all the DeLeon goodies you want! You should know that we give you good things even when we're not asking for cash, like the videos you'll see below, made because we like to entertain you and we like to fill the world with good new Jewish stuff.
Thanks for your support. It keeps us inspired and keeps us working.
