As you might deduce from the title of this update and our current "4% funded" status... We've decided to declare failure on this Kickstarter campaign and move on with other plans.
What are your other plans?
I'm so glad you asked! ;-) First of all: Spycursion development will continue! Despite not turning out the way we'd have liked, we have learned a lot just from the process of running this campaign. You and others have given us plenty of feedback, some of it positive, some of it constructively critical, but much of it useful. On the whole, we've learned that a lot of people are really excited about the concept of Spycursion, but they want to see more from the execution. Our next steps will align with this.
We are setting up a Patreon page to accept donations; more information on that coming in the near future. And until the Patreon page becomes self-sustaining, we'll be working on our side hustle to put food on the table.
What does this all mean for Spycursion?
From a backer perspective, there are both pros and cons compared to the Kickstarter campaign, had it been successful. The reality of us working side gigs does mean that development will slow down -- it's unlikely that we will be able to launch Spycursion within 18 months, as we had been planning.
On the upside, the reduced time pressure means that, when we do release the game, it will be on our own (mildly perfectionistic) terms. Rather than fitting our timeline to a budget, we fit our timeline to the needs of the game, and nothing else. (Yes, that means it could take even longer, but I promise to make Spycursion worth the wait.)
Even though we weren't funded and technically aren't responsible for fulfilling rewards, there is one reward we want to give all of you as a freebie... our eternal gratitude! Though we didn't meet our goal, your support is the reason we're keeping this game going. We would be honored to have you follow us on Patreon, when we launch it.
