A couple last-minute notes - please check our FAQ as we put a lot of detail into it. One of the most important items is about shipping so we'd like to highlight it here also.
Our patented BR48 weighs just over 15 oz which is the maximum for first-class mail in the US. As a result, we have to use Priority Mail which is more expensive. We build for quality, not profit, because we know you'll use the BR48 for many many years. We want you to know that we only charge actual shipping costs to the best of our ability, and even less in some cases to bring down the overall costs. For international orders, we've been shipping worldwide for four years now and have a good handle on the actual costs.
Finally, we would love to talk about plantar fasciitis, tendinitis, tennis elbow or epicondylitis, sciatica, disc herniation and all sorts of pain inducing conditions that respond well to myofascial release. The BR48 is a back roller sure, but technically it is a myofascial release tool. Myofascial release is a great modality for interrupting the vicious cycle of pain caused by these medical conditions. But, any device that is marketed as a cure for a medical condition is automatically considered to be a medical device by the US FDA.
The FDA then charges all 'medical device manufacturers' for this privilege and it is very very expensive. We were FDA registered for our first three years in business and as such, our lacrosse balls were 'FDA medical devices'.
This nonsense was breaking us financially and so now we are careful not to market our tools for any medical conditions and are no longer FDA registered. Of course, our lacrosse balls and other myofascial release tools are the same tools they always were and just as effective.
How is it that myofascial release can be effective when your source of pain is a medical condition like sciatica or herniated disc? It's simple really, your body tightens in surrounding areas in response to pain and that tightness causes more pain - that's the vicious cycle mentioned above. And that's why you get relief from interrupting it.
Risks and challenges
This is our 3rd Kickstarter project since 2014. We've gotten much better at setting accurate expectations and delivering on our promises. The key factor here is that it takes about six months from the time you pay for a plastic injection mold to the time your production run is delivered and most Kickstarter creators put the money down for the mold after the project ends. To accelerate delivery, we've borrowed the money to pay for the BR48 mold and it has already been completed.
But no matter how much we plan ahead, things can still go astray. If they do, we promise to give you full transparency into the issues and solve them in a way that leaves you proud to support our company.
Supply Chain Risk: Sometimes a machine or tool breaks. Sometimes a factory loses power for a day. These things happen from time to time and can affect how long it takes to build our products.
Shipping Risk: Global shipping and warehousing is a difficult business so we outsource it to experts. But even the experts can't eliminate weather, port congestion, and other uncontrollable factors.
Notwithstanding acts of God, we have the experience and have done the planning to make this project a great success!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
