In Greenhouse, a nameless girl struggling with her mental health develops a quiet obsession with botany.
As her obsession grows, she's plagued by inexplicable dreams, and her reality begins to unravel in alarming ways...
I wrote and began working on Greenhouse in 2015, but kept setting it aside in favor of new ideas... It was challenging for me to stay motivated for a project that I couldn't complete in a couple weeks (short attention span -_-). But early this year I decided it was still a story I really wanted to tell, so I revisited my old files and finally finished up the last few pages and panels.
At 24 pages, Greenhouse is the longest / most involved comic I've completed to date, and I'm really proud of how it's turned out. I hope you'll be intrigued by the parts I've decided to show and help me print this little book!
Greenhouse will be printed at Risolve, a risograph* studio in Pennsylvania that does really beautiful work. The bulk of the funding will go towards the production of 500 copies, with the rest covering Kickstarter fees and shipping.
*Riso is a printing process that offers a nice, handmade quality even though the machinery is very industrial. The way that color inks overlay on Riso prints is hard to replicate in Photoshop though, so the colors in the printed version of Greenhouse will look a bit different than the digital renders you see here.
I'm also making a set of 5"x7" risograph prints. There are three 2-color designs I will print myself at the EFA Printmaking Workshop here in New York.
Since we are already fully funded (!!!) I've decided to add a stretch goal to the campaign! If we hit $3,500, everyone who has pledged at the $16 level or higher will get a free enamel pin:
Greenhouse is my third Kickstarter project (see my previous campaigns: Animals in Space & The New Arcana). This story has had a special place in my heart for years, so I'm really excited to finally be able to share it!
Please feel free to ask if you have any questions, and thank you for considering my project :)
Risks and challenges
Having run & successfully fulfilled 2 Kickstarter projects and self-publishing many comics on my own, I'm pretty familiar with the process of working with printers to produce quality books and sending those books out to backers in a timely manner! Delays are possible of course, but I'm confident I can tackle any issues that may come up and will be transparent about the progress to all backers along the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
