The genesis of the Ensign was an upcoming business trip. In this I would be in Las Vegas.
I knew there were meetings, but I also knew there would be time to get physical and also to play.
I wanted to take one watch, a watch that would look professional with my suit, sexy; when I was wearing jeans and a T-Shirt, but tough enough to survive the physical activities we had planned. In short, a sort of "universal" watch.
So I thought, I designed, I specified and came up with the first Ensign design.
I then sent it around several forums like WatchUSeek and TheDiveWatchConnection for comments and set up a Facebook page for feedback.
I knew that these dedicated communities could only make it better...and they did me proud.
Regarding the White version
This never made it to prototype, as it was suggested later in development, but seeing the other variations you'll know that it will be a stunner, hence why it's also offered here.
The White face will have a matte finish.
Due to the fact that the watches will be made in the quantites sold, I'm afraid that I won't be able to change it if you don't like it when it arrives.
If you're not willing to take the risk, then please pick one of the other colours...however if you are, chances are that this will be the rarest variant.

The classic "cushion" style case, the sword hands, the H Link bracelet, the applied indices with C1 SuperLuminova, the Ensign takes what is best about classic divers watches, but delivers then in a unique package that is a copy of no other watch. A ageless design that will never be out of fashion.
WHAT THE WATCH WORLD SAYS:
Read and watch what these esteemed watch experts say about the Ensign, to know you're getting a fantastic watch:
If you'd like to see a video review, Don Evans of Watch Report, gives it a going over here:
And his review is here:
If you want a really indepth video review, Joshua Clare-Flagg of "Watch It All About" gives it a real going over here:
He says in his full review:
"The case is excellently built...the design is bold and simple. It’s well implemented and I haven’t been able to find any issues at all with it in terms of build quality...The 22mm wide bracelet is solid steel that’s really well put together...the Deaumar Ensign is an admirable timepiece that is sure to impress."
Karl Swanepoel of WatchFace says:
" I am personally very sure that this could be the ‘next big thing’ in terms of affordable diver’s watches...An amazing up and coming diver's watch at an unbeatable value for money...4.5 out of 5"
Back with confidence.
The main bone of contention, all the way through has been its size. In the end, it is 42mm wide (without crown) and 47mm "tall".
This is a size that looks good on all wrist sizes.
This is helped by the straps 2 points of articulation per link, instead of the usual 1 as say on an "Oyster" bracelet.
This means the strap "hugs" the wrist and stays close to it. This means comfort but also that it looks great on a smaller wrist too. Here it is on a 6 1/2 wrist:
You're backing the start of a new UK based watch brand that wants to grow and grow.
You're getting their first, limited edition, watch at substantial saving from the RRP.
You're also getting a watch that is made of the best materials, that can compete with watches many times its cost, but from a brand that no one will have heard of yet...this means it's not a common watch.
The watch says luxury, the name says that you have impeccable taste and don't want to "follow the crowd" and buy what everyone else already has on the wrist. You're buying a watch so exclusive that you'll probably never see another. That makes it a heck of a talking point.
But when Deaumar takes off, and more people know, how much cooler is this watch going to be then?
Small, light and useful for traveling with, here is the elegant travel case your watch will come in. But it's practical too, it's not a huge box that adds to shipping costs, that then you either resign to a closet or throw in the trash. It will keep on being useful AFTER you've put your Ensign on your wrist.
Likewise, all the warranty info and instruction guidance will be on a plastic card. Simple, elegant but functional.
I've kept the "frills" simple and functional so that the watch can be built without compromise.
But in order for this approach to work, I need your help to spread the word. Let's make an honest watch, made to the highest specs, stand out in a sea of over hyped, compromised, watches.
WHY THE 2 DIFFERENT PRICES?
There are pledges for EU and for NON - EU countries. We are UK based, so in the EU. As such, 20% VAT has to be paid for pledges shipped inside the EU. This is not applicable if the item is being shipped outside the EU, hence why the NON-EU reward prices are cheaper. It evens out though, as NON-EU backers will be subject to local tax when it arrives in their country. But note how not everyone does this...
The watches aren't going to be individually numbered, but they will be inscribed as "Launch Edition" on the caseback (where it currently says "PROTOTYPE") and the model number will be "ENSIGN16KS"
The Ensign, as presented in this campaign will only be available here. The number across all colours will be limited to 500 pieces.
I've been a life long watch fan, ever since I got my first James Bond Digital Watch (which played the Bond theme tune) in the early 80s.
This isn't the first watch I've made.
I made the Bravus line of watches in 2004/5. In short, as a designer, I'm a "chef" not a "farmer". I don't grow my ingredients. I just know what ingredients need to be put together to make a tasty dish, or watch in this case.
There was no crowd funding and no real social media in 2004, so Bravus died, but I was happy that I'd actually swallowed my own BS and got them in to reality.
But the Bravus watches are still ticking away in the hands of collectors many years later...and they rarely come up for sale.
Check my blog if you want to read more about my background and see the Bravus watches: http://deaumar.co.uk/blogs/news/107978503-the-deaumar-ensign-a-twinkle-in-its-daddys-eye-part-one-in-the-beginning
I still have one of each in rotation, 11 years later. They're all in one piece on original straps, and all still work perfectly. That's quality.
I built on my career in the I.T. industry, started a family and acquired more and more watches. But nothing I've done professionally since has given me the buzz that seeing those Bravus watches come to "life" did.
Fast forward to 2016 and the watch world is a different place...
• Kickstarter (hopefully) funds by 25th March
• Receipt of funds from Kickstarter (up to 14 days) - start of April
• Part acquisition and manufacturing finished by start of July
• QA & shipment from the UK middle of July
If there are any changes to these times, then of course I will keep everyone updated.
This isn't a one shot deal for a quick buck.
I already have two other watches in prototyping as we speak.
Funding the Ensign will help get these other 2 epic watches into the world.
If you'd like a sneak peek, check them out here: http://deaumar.co.uk/collections/deaumar-watches
So you are getting the launch watch of what I hope will be one of the UK's most respected watch companies, for the price of an ordinary watch.
A watch that you'll probably never see on another persons wrist. A watch that you can say "Oh, they only made a few of these, I can't think where you'd get one" to the person who sees it on your wrist, and says that they would like one too.
Thanks for your time, I hope you give the Ensign the chance to delight you.
Risks and challenges
The only possible risk is if the watches take longer than expected to pass customs.
The manufacturer for the watch is used to dealing with much larger quantities than we are offering and having used them before, we know they will deliver on time, but since I am a "one man band", which is great when it comes to customer service, if the watch is very successful, it may take a bit longer for me to personally QA all the watches and get them shipped out.
I will constantly keep our backers updated and if anything insurmountable appears (which I can't see at this time) I will refund. I are not here to scam anyone.
