"It’s a joy exploring Deathbulge’s charming cartoony world, listening to its excellent soundtrack, meeting its quirky inhabitants and battling weird foes. An RPG adventure that’s more about having fun than grinding and stats." - Calum Fraser, Alpha Beta Gamer
"The Deathbulge demo feels a bit like Double Fine’s earlier RPGs like Costume Quest, plus a dash of Brutal Legend and a whimsical sense of humour. This is heavy metal at its silliest." - Dominic Tarason, Rock Paper Shotgun
Deathbulge: Battle of the Bands is a role-playing game for PC, Mac and Linux (via Steam) similar to the likes of Final Fantasy, Grandia, LISA and Earthbound. The game also has an affinity with the sick and righteous, much like Sonic, Toejam & Earl and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
You play the role of DEATHBULGE, a band that stumbles into a CURSED Battle of the Bands contest, where all entrants can attack and be attacked with music. After all, it just wouldn’t be a real BATTLE if no one got hurt, would it?
Deathbulge is made up of Faye on Guitar, Ian on Bass and Briff on drums. The name Deathbulge is inspired, of course, by Ian's deathly face and bulging muscles. THERE IS NO OTHER INTERPRETATION.
Customise the band with 6 musically-themed classes to choose from, each with their own attacks, perks and SICK LOOK. (Note: Classes aren't character-exclusive, i.e. Faye can be a busker too if she so desires.)
- Sew patches of band logos onto your BATTLE JACKET for extra perks in BATTLE.
- No Random Encounters! Monsters will be shown on the field for your avoiding leisure, they're really good at chasing you though so be careful out there.
- Locked doors? NO PROBLEM. Kick down every single door you come across.
- Same goes for treasure chests.
- Some doors too strong to kick down? NO PROBLEM. Kick down weaker doors to level up your door kicking skill until you're strong enough.
- Lots of fish.
- Combat system that focuses on BAR EFFECTS. What happens BETWEEN turns can change everything.
- Rack up specific combinations of status effects to activate powerful group attacks.
- Every character comes equipped with a wide variety of dialogue faces to express themselves TO THE MAX, making the most of Deathbulge's COMIC BACKGROUND.
- Even the ITEMS have personality. Say bye bye to the generic "HEALTH POTION". Local NPC Barry Friendly is taking care of the soothing beverages around here. Sink into a warm cup of BARRY FRIENDLY'S TEA whenever your health is low. Maybe you'll even have the pleasure of meeting Barry at some point. MAYBE HE HAS A SIDEQUEST FOR YOU.
- Loaded with the Deathbulge humour that you all know and love. If you don't know and love it, that's fine, you'll love it once you get to know it.
Deathbulge Discord Server
There will be a discord server open to all backers where we will be hanging out, dropping various updates, posting hot visuals and answering questions. We'll be posting updates on Kickstarter, but there'll be way more activity on the Discord.

Premium Treats is a 48-page comic book that collects the longer Deathbulge comic stories from 2017 that spawned from a belated Hourly Comic Day attempt. Features my best comic work to date!
I also have a very limited amount of my older books left in stock, including the one SHOWCASED in the video. This is your last chance to get my entire back-catalog of books, all first edition, all signed!
SICK T ~Kickstarter Exclusive~
This COOL DESIGN will be printed on Bella + Canvas shirts. I have a rich history of printing and selling shirts and they are my favourite to print on by far because they are so DAMN COMFORTABLE. In fact the fish shirt I'm wearing in the video is a Bella + Canvas shirt I had printed 4 YEARS AGO and have worn regularly since, and it's still as comfortable as ever. #TRUSTEDBRAND
I will draw YOU or WHATEVER YOUR ONLINE PERSONA IS in the style of the in-game character dialogue faces. Just the one though, so choose your expression WISELY.
This doesn't mean you'll be a character in the game like with the higher tiers, BUT your portrait will be displayed alongside your name in the game's credits to REALLY STAND OUT (should you wish) as an extra special THANK YOU for pledging $100+.
YES, YOU CAN ACTUALLY BE IN THE GAME. The player will be able to talk to you. And being an NPC, you will get MULTIPLE DIALOGUE PORTRAITS, because you will obviously cycle through a rich variety of emotions while talking to the band.
Not only will you be in the game. You will be a QUEST GIVER. If the player wants to 100% the game, they're gonna have to GO THROUGH YOU FIRST. This quest will involve a fight with you too. So you will have your own battle animations, attacks and EVEN MORE DIALOGUE PORTRAITS than the standard NPC tier.
Here's a rundown of all the reward tiers for your convenience and also because I guess I just bloody love putting stuff in coloured bars:
Dan Martin - ART/WRITING. Creator of Deathbulge comics since 2012. His face went viral recently, Google search "Moatee" to find out why (if you dare). Cosplayed as the Sega Bass Fishing guy at Eurogamer once.
Kyle Jenkins - DESIGN. Made a game called Potion Lore in 2012 (with Scott) and also won an IGDA Chicago Game Jam (with Scott). Recently made a game about FAST CLOWNS for a fundraiser (Scott was probably involved with this too, let's face it).
Scott Walenty - PROGRAMMING. Did the things mentioned in Kyle's bio. Loves to SPEEDRUN GAMES and wore a Deathbulge shirt to AGDQ 2016. Has a dog called MONTY that has a talent for balancing food on head.
Leslie Wai - MUSIC. Plays many instruments. Does sick DJ sets around the UK. Hot on Youtube. Beatboxed with Craig David once.
Patrick Henaghan - MUSIC. Also plays many instruments. Helped Dan and 3 others win a Simpsons Trivia Night. A true team player.
YOU - MONEY.
This is roughly where all the money's going!
Reward fulfilment is a noticeably low percentage because the majority of rewards are digital and I already have the books in my possession. So really all that segment is paying for is the shipping costs of sending the books, and getting the t-shirts printed + shipped. PRETTY COOL HUH.
Risks and challenges
The main challenge is the time. 3 people making an RPG is a time-consuming process. Let's not beat around the bush, delays are likely. But we are extremely passionate about this. This project is very important to all of us. Should we reach the goal, it WILL be made and I will be sure to keep you posted along the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
