Update as of 7/7: It's Happening! As Thanks, Introducing a New Reward Level
Sometime around 10pm, we hit our goal of $8,500... which means it's happening! A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has supported the project to date, including everyone who has been supporting StoneNudes for years and everyone who is just hearing about it for the first time through this campaign. As I've always said, this is a community project, and it wouldn't be possible without ALL of you.
Now that it's on, I'm offering a new reward: if those of you who chose to receive one 2015 Calendar want to get an even better deal, consider increasing your level of support to $35 and get TWO Calendars: one for yourself and one for a friend; one for home and one for the office (or tent?); or...?
I have been a climber and a photographer since the early '70s. StoneNudes is a collaborative photography project that began in 1999, when I took my first fine art, black and white photographs of women climbing nude in Joshua Tree National Park. I have published a StoneNudes calendar for each of the last 14 years, each featuring 13 original photographs (except the 2011 calendar, which was a "best of"). In 2002, I published two calendars; one featured men.
Over the years, I have made StoneNudes photographs in partnership with over 100 people, on location in several different states in the US, plus Argentina, Spain, and Thailand. In 2010, StoneMaster Press (which I co-founded) published a StoneNudes coffee table book.
The 2015 StoneNudes calendar, the 15th edition, will feature photographs made in Joshua Tree and Yosemite National Parks, and Colorado. It will be printed in the US, and the retail price will be $19.95 + shipping.
Why a Kickstarter campaign?
For the last several years, one single retailer has financed the entire publication of the StoneNudes Calendars, and has handled all sales and order fulfillment. This year, I have decided to take back the majority of those responsibilities, for several reasons.
The first is that StoneNudes has always been a community-based project. It would not be possible without everyone who has participated as a model, a spotter, driver, a talent or location scout; who offered me couches to sleep on; or avid fan who has spread the word. Through this campaign, I can offer my biggest fans the opportunity to order calendars and prints for a significant discount over the retail price. I'm in the process of updating the StoneNudes website so that I can sell prints and other items there, but you'll find the best rates here.
The second is that for years, people have been asking me to sell them previous-years' calendars. I'm finally getting around to opening up the archives.
And the third reason is that I stand to retain a much higher percentage of each sale -- and further strengthen my own relationships with all of you -- by reaching out to you personally to support this project, rather than relying solely upon a traditional retailer. This project has been a labor of love, but I also need to feed myself.

Risks and challenges
Being as this is the 15th Stone Nudes calendar I've published, I have extensive knowledge in how to create a quality project, from making the photographs, to preparing them for the printer, and being present at all the press runs so that every one of the photographs looks and feels the way I want it to.
Because I will be doing all the packing and shipping myself, as I did in earlier years, you can rest assured that the products are packed well... and for the most part, the US Postal Service has done an excellent job of fulfilling delivery. (There is always the risk that an order will get lost, especially the international orders, which don't get a tracking number.)
I have already finished gathering all the new images for the calendar, so that's not an issue. As soon as this campaign is complete, I will have the funds necessary to go to the printer, so there is also very little risk that the calendars won't be complete or shipped out in a timely manner (ie, by the end of September at the very latest).
The biggest risk to the project occurring at all would be if I don't raise enough money for the printing... and given how Kickstarter works, you won't get charged if that happens. So that's not actually a risk to you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
