Mythic Mint is a small family business based in the UK. We are looking to bring the Mythic Mint to life by making you a unique series of fantasy style coins for use in any of your favourite role-playing games! They are suitable for tabletop games, live action role play, or even making an amazing treasure hunt for your kids!
We have three principal rules which we have stuck to in making these coins:
- Firstly: We aim to provide you with as many of our coins as we can for your money: more coins for your coin!
- Secondly: Realism is important. We don't want coins so large that they'd weigh half a kilo in real gold (ahem, galleons). We aim for authenticity in every sense: touch, sight, sound and feel!
- Thirdly: We aim for beauty, design and quality. Our coins should look stunning, whether it's a few coins in your hand or a whole treasure chest full of them.
Our coins aim to deliver the best quality while keeping the cost for you down.
Our all original artwork was designed drawing inspiration from various fantasy sources. The designs will be able to fit into your game seamlessly, no matter what your game is or where it is set.
After much deliberation, costing and researching, we found the best material for manufacturing the coins. The material we found holds a good image, feels weighty, and looks shiny. Most importantly, it is good value for money, so you can get the best quality product for the best price.
The materials we are using for our coins are:
- Gold: brass-plated steel.
- Silver: nickel-plated steel.
- Copper: copper-plated steel.
These alloys were chosen for their vibrant and realistic colour and shine. They are of suitable density, high durability and reasonable price.
This kind of plated steel has a huge advantage over anodizing or coloured metal coverings that similar products use. The colour and shine come straight from actual metal and not a coloured coating. You won't find any fake colouring or "brushed" looking work on our coins.
The beauty and gleam of these coins really stand out in this material choice.
When determining the size and weight of the coins, we took into consideration historical coinages and descriptions from RPG books such as Dungeons and Dragons. We also wanted to add a realistic weight without weighing down players too much! After considering how to get the best quality product for the best value and balancing the size of the coins to the materials we chose, high-quality copper, nickel and brass plated steel. The dimensions of each coin are:
- Copper Pieces: 25 mm diameter by 1.75 mm thickness.
- Silver Pieces: 23 mm diameter by 2 mm thickness.
- Gold Pieces: 21 mm diameter by 2.25 mm thickness.
This makes our copper coin similar in size to a British two pence, the silver coin similar to a British ten pence, and a gold coin similar to a Euro 20 cent.
We want to provide as many of our fantasy coins for your roleplaying as possible. We are the best option for a troop of kobolds each holding 2 coppers, an army of hobgoblins each with 2d4 silver pieces or even a trolls' den hiding an overflowing chest of gold.
In our rewards, the more coins you purchase the better value for money you’ll be getting. The cost of manufacturing means that the more coins we order the cheaper per coin it will be, so rather than pocketing the difference we are passing it straight on to you with our stretch goals! With this production method, you can get a chest full of fantasy coins for the lowest possible price.
Remember to tell all your gaming/coin-loving friends about us, help us reach our goal and beyond!
All of our coins are minted quality with beautifully designed artwork. The material is a durable steel base plated with copper, nickel, and brass. They have the quality you'd expect from a genuine circulation currency because they are made in the same way!
The touch and sound of these coins will make you feel like you are experiencing real trade in your games!
As part of our commitment to giving you the best price possible, we are making all expenses as clear as possible. All of our shipping costs are separated out, by country, in each reward. All you have to do is to select where you need your reward shipped to when you select a pledge level.
EU-UK appropriate VAT will be paid already at 21% and will not be charged again. There should also be no additional custom or duty charges for countries within the EU.
Taxes and customs charges do depend on the country the package is entering and the value of the reward, and so for international (non-EU) backers, the customs fees are their responsibility to pay.
If you have any questions about the shipping to your country please feel free to send us a message or leave a comment.
The more coins we produce the lower the manufacturing costs per coin, and that is being passed on to you by giving you more coins for each stretch goal we reach!
*Trolls' Trove rewards and above, including the 250 Coin Pack Add-On! Additive with all other goals and stretch goals.
When we reach GBP £30K we will be adding an extra 10% to every pack or reward tier containing 150 coins or more, this applies individually to packs and extra rewards added through the new Add-On Menu. And of course, this stretch goal will stack with any other stretch goals that we reach!
So a reward giving 300 coins, 100 gold/100 silver/100 copper, will be getting 330 coins, 110 gold/110 silver/110 copper once this stretch goal is unlocked!
When we reach GBP £55K we will be adding an extra 20% more coins to every reward and add-on pack. So if your reward says that you're getting 30 coins, 10 gold/10 silver/10 copper, then once this stretch goal is unlocked you'll be getting 36 coins, 12 gold/12 silver/12 copper!
This stretch goal stacks with the previous one so that rewards and packs affected by the previous stretch goal will receive an extra 30% more coins! This means a reward giving 300 coins, 100 gold/100 silver/100 copper, will be getting 390 coins, 130 gold/130 silver/130 copper once this stretch goal is unlocked!
A break down of the £15K goal funds:
The majority of funds are going towards meeting the 30,000 minimum order quantity of coins.
The second major cost that has to be budgeted for is the shipping of all these coins to backers all over the world.
The final major cost is the set up for the minting dies, we are using a special type of die which allows the design of the coin to go right up to the edge of the coin.
This allows us to cover our shipping while also ensuring that we reach the minimum order quantity of coins in order to secure the best rates.
When our funding period is over, in early May, is when our real work begins! Regardless of how many backers we receive, everyone should have their coins by the end of September.
Pouches Are Sold Out! - check back soon...
If you have missed out on the Bur-Hobit reward, don't fret! You can still get our best value for money by getting the Dragon's Delve (£175) reward. If you are still hungry for more coins you can increase your pledge and for each additional pledge cost (£175) plus shipping cost (country dependent), you'll receive an extra 750 coins.
Want extra of one type? You can use our add-on menu below... Just remember the best rates are still on the rewards with monster names, which include equal amounts of all three types of coin.
Due to popular demand, we are introducing an add-on menu. This is aimed specifically at those who want more of some types of coins than others. It can also be used to back for one or two types only if you select the Add-On Only reward. Make sure your pledge covers your all of your add-ons + shipping, and then message us the add-on packs you want. There is also a general rule for combining reward tiers, just add the two reward pledges and shipping costs together and message us with what you are combining. Shipping costs must be added to your total in order for you to get your rewards. Please message us or leave a comment if you are unsure about shipping zones.
The best way to use this menu is to calculate the total of everything that you want + shipping for each item to make sure that your pledge can cover it, then message us with what you want (reward tier + additional rewards + add-ons) and we will check for you that you are pledging the correct amount. All add-ons are eligible for the 20% extra stretch goal!

This Kickstarter is just the beginning for Mythic Mint. Our next step will be to bring out platinum and electrum coins. After that, we will bring out new coin sets with different designs. We are already developing alternate artwork for sets with new themes.
But first, with your help, we'll be getting this project off the ground!
A little bit about myself, I am a longtime, (in fact a lifetime) nerd, and a short time DM. I am introverted and even more socially awkward, which kinda makes sense considering I am also doing my PhD in quantum physics! My longtime desire to play D&D was stumped until I finally plucked up the courage to stop being afraid or embarrassed and just do it! I found this courage after seeing D&Ders like Nerdarchy, Matt (Colville), Matthew (Mercer), social media communities, and more who are putting their role-playing hobbies out there for the whole world to see!
So I decided to organise a family game. Well, you didn't expect me to start widening my social circles straight away, did you? Baby steps! I would have to be the DM because I didn't expect anyone else would want to/know how to. The players were three of my siblings, who were rather keen, and my wife, who joined quite by chance as she had plans that got cancelled. Looking back I perhaps shouldn't have been so surprised that my siblings wanted to play a role-playing game. After all, not only did our childhood involve playing all different tabletop/board game & imaginary fantasy adventures, like going to the woods to make a magical potion or dressing up as pirates and swashbuckling. But it also included many actual adventures such as running away from angry baboons down the side of the Drakensberg, translated literally as the Mountain of Dragons, I mean, come on right, how did I not see it before!
So anyway, the first game went great and they wanted to play again! Over the course of more than a year, people have become quite attached to their characters. Our game has expanded to include 2 more players, my wife's sister (who got hooked after agreeing to play on the condition that her character, Rey, could betray the party, she now want's a redemption arc), and my brother's girlfriend who totally bossed our dress up session! We have also just experienced the first party death, Balroch, the noble paladin, fell victim to the treachery of Rey!
I love props in my games, and I have spent hours upon hours making stuff for our games. Printing out and laminating over 200 cards for treasure, inspiration, Armor, weapons, and making unique character sheets for each player. Making props like maps with leather covers, monster minis and battle maps, we even spent half of one session where each player made their character mini. Then I was struck by the idea to make a special prop item for each character, a spellbook for the wizard, a signet ring for the Nobel paladin etc. You get the idea...
So the start of this Kickstarter really came out of me making a leather pouch for the Rogue in my D&D game and wanting to fill it with coins. But when I looked into getting some, I just couldn't find quite what I was looking for. What I did find, however, was a whole lot of people in various groups and forums saying that they were looking for the same thing. So I set about making it. It started with some sketches and artwork, then I started looking into how to actually mint coins, spending weeks researching materials and processes. After six months of developing and working on it, we are here, actually making Mythic Mint happen!
That is how this whole project started, and now we are sharing that effort - trying to get tabletop players, LARPers and anyone else who wants them, more coins for their coin! This project means more to me than just getting some fantasy coins for our game, it is an opportunity for me to reach out and become a more involved part of a wider, and totally awesome, community. It's a chance to give back and engage more with people who have been overwhelmingly welcoming. This community has helped me by sharing their hobby, their support (in-game and out), and providing me with a way to connect, and re-connect, to the people important to me.
Risks and challenges
We have put hundreds of hours into developing the project before we are launching, even so, there are some risks. One obvious one is shipping times. If we receive significantly more pledges then we were expecting there might be an increase in the waiting time for some people to receive their rewards. We have developed a plan of action which involves using a professional distributor to help fulfil rewards.
Our manufacturer is reliable and we fully expect them to be able to cope with our final order, be it 30,000 or 300,000 coins. As Europe's largest manufacturer of minted tokens, they are definitely up to the task. We plan to order the minting dies to be engraved as soon as we reach our funding goal to speed up production time and to get your coins to you sooner!
Obviously, there have been plenty of other complications for us to consider, but please be assured we have budgeted carefully to allow for every foreseeable risk and will be actively working to improve strategies if any others should arise.
We have confidence in our ability to do this with your help and we thank you for placing your trust in us. None of this is possible without you!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
