About this project
Ronald Belford Scott, better know to the world as Bon Scott, was the powerhouse singer behind AC/DC's greatest hits, and arguably the greatest rock'n'roll front man of all time.He spent his formative years in the small Scottish town of Kirriemuir. Local community group DD8 Music plans to honour the memory of this rock and roll legend by erecting a bronze statue in the town.
We are looking to raise £50,000 by the 5th June. There is a wide variety of funding options available, from £1 up, and a selection of rewards, which you can see on the right. Every single person who donates towards the project will have their name noted and placed in a time capsule under the finished statue.
The Kirriemuir Bon Scott statue campaign kicked off on Saturday 4th May, with Italian cover band Buon Scotch recreating the famous Long Way to the Top video.
The town has already honoured Bon with a memorial stone and a street named after him, and would now like to go one step further with a permanent monument to the great man.
DD8 Music has commissioned renowned sculptor John McKenna to produce a work of art that exemplifies Bon's spirit and his Scottish roots. John is an incredible artist who has produced some truly magnificent work over the years. You can see some of his fantastic work at his website here www.a4a.co.uk
We are very excited to be working with John, and he has come up with a fantastic final design.
The statue has the full support of all our local councillors and we have been offered support from several local businesses. Now we are asking that the AC/DC community comes together to fund the statue to the world's greatest rock and roll front man! Cost Break Down
The design, manufacturing and installation of the statue will cost £38,000.
The remaining £12,000 is taken up with fees to Kickstarter (5% of total) card processing fees (3% of total) and 20% VAT on top of those fees.
The rest of the money is taken up with the production and delivery of the various rewards that you can choose from pledging. This figure was obviously an estimate, as we have no idea exactly how many of each pledge type we would sell, or where in the world we would have to send them.
Because of this unknown final figure we have partnered with the Nordoff Robbins music therapy charity, and any excess funds left after the statue is installed will be donated to them. Our books will be available for public scrutiny after the process has finished, as we want you to see exactly how your money has been spent.

Risks and challenges
DD8 Music is a not-for-profit community group based in Kirriemuir. The group is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and is behind the annual Bon Scott Festival that has been running in Kirriemuir since 2006. The festival has been growing year on year, and all profits go back into community music projects, including the DD8 Music recording studio.
The team are all huge fans of Bon and his music, and the statue plans are a labour of love for them. They have been working hard to make this a reality for a few years now, and are incredibly excited that the project is finally rolling along.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
